Tell Me What TV Show I Should Watch Next?

So my favourite tv shows prisonbreak, stranger things, dexter and breaking bad finished

I watched game of thrones first season didnt like it much and now in the middle of the walking deead.

The first 3 seasons were on parr with breaking bad and prisonbreak, but season 4 is just dragged out, they bring back old characters like the governor and some scenes are completely pointless. Like the first episode in season 4 with the irish woman who yaps on ..what was the whole point of that scene, already saw people keeping walkers as they were family members, seems like they're just reusing the old plot lines.

They could have made new plot lines, but just plain old killing more walkers, ppl walking etc. some new plot lines like underground tunnels, level 1 or 2 walkers, stronger more fearsome walkers. I get the whole point of the other humans as being worse than walkers is fine, but that's what was shown in season 3?

I think i'll continue with this show but any other suggestions?

edit
THANKS FOR everyone's suggestions!
Persisted through season 4 of TWD and mid way of season 5…but incredibly mind numbing boring…like i wold rate it at 2/10. So boring that i just skip some scenes. Seriously couldn't the writeers think of something else than just break into a house, steal, walkers then a main character goes, people mourn, then repeat FFS.

I'd also recommend Bron/Broen (The bridge). The original Nordic version. It's amazing.

My "Must Watch", in no particular order…

    Thriller/detective/drama/SciFi;

    The Killing
The Outsiders (Stephen King story adaption)
True Detective (Season 1 at least)
    Altered Carbon (Bladerunner'esque)
    Mind Hunter
Black Mirror (Deals with dystopian realities)
    Seven Seconds
Real Detective (This isn't the McConaughey/Harrelson one.)
The Boys (When good guys go bad…)
    Watchmen
The Mandalorian (aka: The Baby Yoda Show.)
Chernobyl (Hard to tell if its a doco or ??)

    Comedy;

Letterkenny (Do yourself a favour. Watch this gem.)
    Brooklyn 99 (sitcom humour)
    Rake (Very Aussie humour)
    AP.Bio
    Bob's Burgers (Bob is such a dunce…)
Archer (Archer is such a dunce…)
    Year of the Rabbit
    I.T Crowd

I know there is more, but this is all I can think of…

All I can say is that HBO are hitting the whole TV series thing out of the park at the moment…

    • +2

      Letterkenny

      Can confirm

      • I suggest you let that one marinate!

      • Was recommending some TV shows the other day…

        • You gonna change that channel, orrrrrrr

    • except the last season of Black Mirror. It's pretty crap.

    • Good list, but you're going to have to sell me on year of the rabbit. I've hated everything Matt Perry has done since The Mighty Boosh.

      • Didn’t like Toast of London or IT Crowd? Personally, I didn’t like The Mighty Boosh. I don’t find Noel Fielding particularly funny.

Tell you what I didn’t like that Matt Berry did, and that was Disenchantment. He sounded like he phoned in his voice acting part. It was terrible and hard to listen to.

    • Letterkenny

      Hard Yes

  • Jack Ryan
    Cobra Kai
    Mandalorian

  • +4

The Wire and The Sopranos are both woefully undermentioned. They are absolute top tier. Plenty of other good shows suggested, but these two should take precedence over almost everything else.
Mad Men is also up there, if it's on your radar OP just get into it.

      Love this list !

      My favourites:

      GoT
      Sherlock
      Handmaid's Tale
      Vikings

Will have to check out the rest !

    • +1

I too will recommend Mr Robot (I am currently up to the start of Season 4).

Netflix's Daredevil (all seasons) is one of the best super hero small screen shows (which I would combine with "The Defenders" and "Iron Fist" season 1, since they also feature The Hand). Also of interest is Philip K. Dick's Man in a High Castle (4 seasons, now complete).

    • Remove about 5 shows from that list and we might as well be twins. Freaky.

    • I'd add:
      - Jack Ryan
      - The Flash
      - Forensic Files
      - Air Crash Investigations
      - Homicide Hunter
      - Naked and Afraid
      - The Tick

  • +3

    Ray Donovan

  • +2

    Firefly

    Deadwood

    The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

    • Should also add to this excellent list Justified.

  • +2

    Dogboy had some great recommendations.

    I'd throw in
    Justified
    Scrubs (stop after s8),
    first four seasons of Dexter
Fargo but can be hit or miss person to person
    It's always Sunny in Philadelphia
    Person of Interest
    The Expanse

    • +1

Omg, yes, Scrubs., and agree, later in the seasons it just seemed to jump the shark…

      • I think season 8 was the last of the traditional seasons, then s9 was the reboot in the med school that only got 1 season before being cancelled. I found traditional scrubs great until the end

  • +2

    Desperate Housewives

    • +1

      only if you're desperate :)

      • +1

It was actually pretty good. Quite dark humour.

  • I think these shows would be right up your alley:

    The expanse on prime
    Jack Ryan series ion prime
    Narcos on netflix

    • +3

watching the expanse now. Love this for a sci-fi genre. But you need to be in a 'focused' mood to follow the plot. Its not something you can watch in the background or you will get lost real fast

      • I mean I wouldn't think any shows in this thread that aren't comedies can be watched in the background… good TV deserves your attention just like a movie.

Except The Walking Dead. That show is best watched in the background.

        • Haha agreed,

Can tune out in season 7, come back in season 9 and I barely missed a thing plot wise.

  • +1

How To Get Away With Murder - Netflix
    Orphan Black - Stan
    Imposters - Stan
    Good Behavior - Stan
5ive Days to Midnight - 7plus, not too many ads
Blinded - SBS, Swedish with English subtitles
Pros and Cons - SBS, Danish with English subtitles

Not sure if HTGAWM is still on Netflix -I hope so, waiting for season 5 to drop on there.

    • +4

Plus one for Orphan Black. I managed to see that through to the end. A rare feat for me. If seasons start to deteriorate, I'm out.

  • +3

    Rick and Morty

    • +2

Will I enjoy if my iq is less than 200?

      • +2

        Yes

You are the mortal Rick makes fun of.

Also, you can relate to Jerry

  • +3

The Expanse. It's blowing me away with the quick pace and awesome visuals.

  • +8

Money Heist (Netflix) either with subtitles or Eng dubbed

    • +1

      YES!

    • This!
Once you get used to the English dub, it's very much worth it.

  • -1

Probably a totally different genre than what OP watches but here is my list:

    1. Mad Men (It helps that Jon Hamm is sooo good looking.. Lol.. )

    2. Modern Family

    3. Desperate Housewives

    4. Greys Anatomy (but after Christina Yang left and with no McDreamy, I pretty much lost interest)

    5. Two and a Half Men (till Ashton Kutcher came in and ruined it 😬)…

    6. Better Call Saul

    7. Breaking Bad

    8. F.R.I.E.N.D.S

    9. Big Bang Theory

    • +1

Big bang theory… Really? Half baked smart wanna be jokes with about 30% of the episode just a laugh track

      • +1

Hence, the very last one on my list..

To be honest, I liked it initially but it went downhill pretty much around when Penny cut her hair…

      • TBBT will age badly… it will be seen as sexist rubbish. Probably already is.

Mind you… I’ve watched every ep.

  • +2

    Justified
    Sons of Anarchy
    Vikings
    Outlander

  • +1

    American Gods
    Deadwood
    Hell on Wheels

  • +2

Thanks OP and everyone for suggestions as I’m looking for something new too. Great recommendations.
    Old and new.

    I’d like to add:

Billions - which is showing on Stan.

  • I found all of these excellent:

    Altered Carbon
    The Boys
    Cobra Kai
    Billions
Sons of Anarchy & Mayans MC
    The Handmaids Tale
    The Mandalorian
    The Good Place
True Detective S1. 2 & 3 were nowhere as good, 2 being the worst & are standalone so don't need to watch them.

    Need to watch The Witcher.

I tried to watch Watchmen but if you've read the comic it's really bad.

  • I just finished 'The Stranger'. It's good. If you like English crime suspense thrillers I'd recommend it.

  • +2

The Last Kindgom on netflix. Trumps Vikings

Best medieval action show ever based on true events (with some fictional main characters).

    • +1

+1 TLK, super underappreciated show imo

First season the production level is a bit rough due to being a small BBC production but since Netflix picked it up it's been fantastic.

Very bingeable show as the pacing is break neck fast, especially if you've come from something like TWD, but with a very engaging story and excellent characters

  • +1

    Just a few

    Orphan Black
    Mr Robot
    Killing Eve
    The Expanse
    Santa Clarita Diet
    Happy!
What We Do In The Shadows (watch the movie too)

  • +3

Babylon 5, if you can find it.

  • i've started watching, The Outsider. pretty interesting story.

  • +1

Black mirror imo. Altered carbon aswell as previously suggested. Better call Saul is abit slow imo, waiting for more seasons before I continue from s1

  • +1

Billions and Power on Stan are very good series.
    The 100 on Netflix.

  • +1

    Justified
    Burn Notice
    The Wire
    The Shield

  • Spoiler ALERT!

  • +2
  • Stop what you doing and watch Top Boy.

  • Homeland, House of Cards, Designated Survivor , Blacklist

  • +1

    Years and Years

  • +1

If you haven't seen Watchmen the TV series it is really good. I am almost finished the season and I'm really enjoying it. I don't see it talked about very much though

  • +2

A bit old but still great shows:
    - Rome
    - Deadwood
    - Boardwalk Empire

    • +1

How is this the only mention of Boardwalk Empire.

One of the best TV shows ever made. If you haven't watched it get on it!

  • +1

I'm going to make a big call here and say Mr Robot is the best show since Breaking Bad

  • Just make sure to end GoT at season 6 if you continue it. After that the show just becomes absolute drivel.

    • for me that's season 7… shouldn't miss littlefinger's plan coming to fruition at s7e7!

      • Awww spoilers :( Does he get Ned Stark on the iron throne?

  • +3

Mr Inbetween best show that has been made in years and it's Aussie must see tv

    • Agreed. You need to go back and watch the film it is based on too: The Magician

  • +2

    Silicon Valley!!
They just finished the last season.

  • Counterpart, since no-one has mentioned it yet.

  • +1

Mentioned once previously, but Money Heist (aka La Casa de Papel) is one of the best series I've watched since Breaking Bad.
It's in spansish but they've dubbed it in English. Once you get used to that it's VERY much worth it.

  • The Punisher

  • If you're watching TWD, at least watch until Negan saga

  • Bosch.

LA Detective story based on popular books.

  • If you have seen Breaking Bad then what about Better Call Saul. The new season of the BCS is going to be amazing from what we have seen in the trailers.
If you have subscription I suggest The Mandalorian, because is fresh story in the Star Wars universe, is not that bad, but is very Disney style.
Another show that left me impressed was True Detective, very strong first season, almost unreal felling.
I started watching Picard, but I suggest you watch Star Trek the Next Generation first, because is all time best pop culture space adventure show.
If you going to the sci-fi and I suggest taking a look of the first Twilight Zone from the 50-60's, many modern shows like "The good place" were inspired from episodes from it. I think is all time best show if I had list of show that must be watched.

    About anime:
Rick and Morty is must, even that have weak season 4. Pop culture with a lot of drama encoded in it.
Out of air by all time best if you ask me : Futurama.
Cyanide and Happiness show -what a f up show also damn hilarious.
Mr. Pickles is also good in the f up genre.

Youtube have a lot of funny things to watch, my receipt discovery was "Staying positive in the apocalypse"

  • +1

    Narcos and Peaky Blinders.

  • +1

    The Sopranos

  • Spartacus
    The americans
    The shield

    • I'll second The Americans

      • I don't see anyone talking about it ever. Super underrated show.

        • I wholeheartedly agree.
          Is that you John?

  • If you've watched Breaking Bad make sure you watch El Camino (movie on Netflix) to tie up a few loose ends for Jesse's storyline.

Assuming your preferred genre is drama…

Deadwood - Stan, was also on Foxtel on demand (not sure if still there)
The Wire - was on Foxtel on demand (not sure if still there)
    Godless - Netflix
    11.22.63 - Stan
    The Spy - Netflix
    The OA - Netflix
Third Watch - unfortunately I don't think this is on any subscription on demand services

  • +1

    Peaky Blinders

comedies - friends, the office (us version), big bang theory

chernobyl is really good mini series
    catch 22
    black mirror
    ozark (similar to breaking bad)
    better call saul
black list (gets repetitive after a while though)
narcos (can be too graphic, but since u watched BB i’d assume its ok)

  • +2

    HBO - Oz

  • +1

In order, 1. Better Call Saul 2. Westworld 3. Silicon Valley 4. Mandalorian. If none of these shows hook you in the first episode, don't bother continuing. People love Parks and Rec, and I persisted, but I still didn't like it after that.

  • A couple of comedies..

    You're the worst
    Eastbound and Down
    Barry
    The IT Crowd
    Toast of London

    • +1

Steven, it's Clem Fandango can you hear me? Toast is great but it's not for everyone.

  • The man in high castle is probably the only show on a streaming service today rivals HBO quality.

    • The story starts getting weird once it deviates from the book.

  • Banshee seasons 1 to 3
    Santa Clarita diet
    Insatiable
    Avenue 5

  • +1

    Twilight zone (the original series)
    death in paradise
    The rookie
    Stargate SG1
