Free 2020 AFL & NRL Live Pass for Telstra & Boost Mobile Customers

3470

Similar to last year for Telstra and Boost mobile customers.

You can stream live matches and watch replays, all at no additional cost and no data metering.

The T&C’s and webpage haven’t been updated yet but I just tested the AFL and NRL apps on a Telstra Pre-Paid and Boost Mobile service and have a pass for the 2020 season.

  • damn can't stream through PC

I installed kodi for windows then installed the aussie addon + the AFL addon to kodi and it worked a treat

      http://aussieaddons.com/installation/

Also have a mi box and use the same procedures to watch it on my 65 inch tv screen

No the best resolution (720 only) but its fine

      • How exactly does one add their subscription details? =\

The Settings just are all blank within the add-on.

        • +1

In settings, switch on 'AFL Live Pass Subscription' toggle, only then can you enter your username & password. 'Paid(afl.com.au) or linked live pass' is the subscription type.

          • @adr8: Thanks for the reply :)

          • @adr8: If you try and watch a team video for example does it play? i keep getting an input device error?

            • @the7apples: Plays fine for me.

Not sure, but could try enabling/installing/updating Videoplayer InputStream as per this thread. If not, google possible fixes or try a fresh install of Kodi and reinstall the add-on.

Edit: Could also try asking in the Whirlpool Forum Aussie Add-ons thread

  • Good deal that it's free but I wouldn't pay for the NRL pass again. They are so far behind with the times… not even HD quality and you can't stream on a TV. You are better off getting Kayo Sports.

    • I wouldn't pay for the NRL pass again

Hotspot to someone's Telstra or Boost phone, activate Live Pass subscription, pay nothing.

  • Hi i m boost customer how do i get afl live pass ??

    • +1

Download the AFL Live app. Use mobile data (turn off wifi) and tap the Live Pass T icon in the top right. Follow the instructions.

  • Do Telstra/ Boost customers get Kayo as well?

    • There's currently a one month free Kayo offer with Telstra Plus.

  • Is the data unmetered for boost customers?

    • +2

      I believe it is…

I'm usually using it on wifi, but tested it on 4G for about an hour and didn't notice any usage on my account.

  • Anyone know if the hotspot trick still works? You used to be able to hotspot off a Boost phone and activate your AFL Live app.

  • Can boost customers connect to telstra air?

  • +1

thanks! Been with Boost for years but never knew about this

  • Last year I waited to get a 50% off $30 Telstra Sim pack which lasted 6mths to activate the AFL pass (activated just before R1 to try last the season)

I have dual Sim on my mobile so I only switch to data on the Telstra Sim if I don't have wifi and need to watch it.

Will do the same thing again this year unless someone has a better idea? Boost doesn't appear to have a cheap prepaid with 6mth expiry..

    Thanks

    • In saying that, I have just been hopping from cheap prepaid deals (aldi, amaysim, Lebara etc)

Might be just easier to go with boost as my main Sim, seems much cheaper than Telstra and saves me managing 2 sims

      • Boost have 6 month and 12 month options that are very popular. The $150, 12 months, 80GB in particular is great.

  • Is it free data metering for Boost customers or only for Telstra?

    • Both

  • Wondering if anyone knows - my Telstra plan expires in March and I don’t plan on staying.

My pass has auto renewed to Jan 31st 2020.

Now that I have the sub, is it independent of my Telstra account? As in, can I cancel Telstra and hold on to the sub till jan?

    Thanks!

    • +1

Your AFL or NRL sub should be fine. Last year I ported to Woolworths and back to Telstra/Boost and never lost access to my AFL sub.

      • Cheers mate

  • Anyone know if this would also work
With Belong Mobile as they are owned by Telstra?

    • Don’t think it will work as it’s identified as a different network.

  • Do I need to sign up or does it just detect me?

    • AFL I think you have to have an account (but I already had a Telstra account so just linked it for the 2020 season so not entirely sure), an account does mean you can stream on other devices by logging in. NRL app just detected me and I could skip creating an account.

    • I do not have a Telstra account or ID. The Live Pass subscription worked for the AFL, NRL, Netball Live and My Football apps. I thought it was the same for the AFLW app but I can't find Live Pass in the menu, so either it changed when the app was updated last month or I'm remembering it wrong.

I'm a telstra customer and get free afl live, however i still willingly pay for kayo since the useless afl app makes you wait for at least 12 hours before you can watch a replay. It's as if they're punishing you for not being available to watch it live.

    • +1

It's as if Foxtel paid for the immediate reply rights.

  • Not data free on boost right?

    • +1

Yes, it's data free on Boost and Telstra.

  • surely there would be a way to be able to use this on bigger than 7" screen. maybe duplicate phone screen to pc screen? or tv screen if possible. isnt there a device on here somewhere that you can use your phone through the pc?

    • There are ways, as discussed above, the apps just don’t make it easy.

    • Kodi ftw

  • It's still possible to watch the Livepass picture on big screen TV. Using two tablets (or a phone and a tablet etc), bring up the Livepass match on one and use the video camera on the other to film just the small window on the first playing the match, then screen mirror to the TV from the second tablet. Pluses: Telstra can't know you're doing this so they have no way to defeat it. Minuses: Takes a bit of fiddling and the sound is still only on the first tablet. I did this all through last season and it was waaay better than watching footy on a phone sized screen .. :-) .. !!

    • +2

Wow! With sound from the tablet. And surely there’s some artefact and cropping issues. Just get a device that runs Kodi. I guess whatever makes you happy.

    • Surely you're joking? Use Kodi…

  • You'll need to update the app for 2020 from PlayStore (or Apple equivalent) and then re-enter your Telstra login id and password. And then start waiting for the bounce down (or kick-off) .. !!

  • Do boost customers get Telstra air?

    • Don’t think so because you need a Telstra account.

  • I just want to add that if you want to use Kodi, but can't seem to link your account to a Telstra ID, you can instead use the "Paid (in app purchase)" subscription type when configuring the Kodi addon. I can't verify if this works for NRL yet as there are no Live pass only videos that I can see until the season starts, but it does work for AFL. You'll need to setup both accounts on a phone first.
