Don’t buy this as a primary drive for the ps4 . The whole system lags when playing a game.

    • +1

Don't think you should even buy it as a primary for your PC.

      • +1

Probably good as a downloads drive then

    • That doesn't sound right, no reason the SSD should do that.

Did you do it yourself and did you clone the HDD or install the PlayStation Software from scratch?

Perhaps the SSD is dying, so time to claim on the warranty?

      • +1

It HD happened since the day I bought it. Definitely the ssd that’s poor quality.

        • Yeah definitely try to fix it, test it connected to a PC or replace under warranty. Might be you were unlucky enough to get a faulty SSD.

BX500 are not the best quality SSDs and they are not the fastest, but for something like a PS4, you'd think it would be ideal as the PS4 is limited in through put by its SATA 2 connection and its slow CPU.

        • +2

It's because the ssd is DRAM cacheless

    • tried updating firmware on the ssd?

I have been using this for 2yrs+. Never had any issues. I’m happy with it.

      • +2

I have been using this for 2yrs+

How is that possible? BX500 was launched in October 2018.

He also says "See you next year" on the 31st of December to people, it's all calendar years to him.

        • Oh mx300 750g I meant. Same looking but didn’t look at the model.

          • @AussieGargain: The picture here is for the MX500, the actual product is the BX500 which is much worse due to its lack of a DRAM cache to save cost.

            • @BenR31415: Didn’t know technology goes backwards…you’d also assume computer components get faster and cheaper, wouldn’t you….

              • +1

@AussieGargain: SSDs have gotten so much cheaper recently, it's just that manufacturers are trying to bring down prices even more. They still offer faster, more expensive products like the MX500 that are still going down in price, just now there's the budget option as well.

              • @AussieGargain: There’s plenty of ways that SSDs get cheaper but not necessarily better. Eg lack of DRAM, QLC/more, controller, etc.

      • hahaha BUSTED!

yeah i have the 500gb version as a steam drive, does the trick

    • +1

Thanks! I specifically searched for SSDs and was considering this for a PS4!

  • +1

    MX is good. Unless Missile.

    • Yep, no RAM cache on this one. Unlike the MX.

Crucial BX500 SSD 1TB?? is this something new or the same as the 940GB drive?

      Crucial MX500 is faster

  • Would this be suitable for use as a drive in an audio server?

  • +4

I heard BX is very bad.

    • Yeah all the TLCs do poorly. Especially WD Greens.

      • I have Samsung 860 and WD Blue so far OK.

  • +1

BX500 is a good storage drive for Steam gaming, etc.

My BX500 480GB drive is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much slower then my MX500 500GB drive

almost twice as slow using DaVinci Resolve

FYI i paid $64 for the BX500 480GB and $74 for the MX500 500GB delivered with previous Oz Bargain Ebay sales.

Yeah I feel like these DRAM-less drives aren't really worth the small cost saving

    • Has been much cheaper before. $160 is a normal price for the mx500 so this is not worth it at all

  • +4

These are trash. They seem OK and then performance degrades over time. I've had to remove about 6 from client machines and replace with better drives.

  • Was think of using this as OS drive for win10 but after reading the comments I'll avoid

What's the best options. I'm looking at 240GB and it will only have OS and programs (not gaming) I already have a HDD for documents/media/back-ups etc

    • +4

Nowadays SSD value shines at 500GB. Get a MX500 and you are all set to go.

  • Without reading I thought it was a microwave…

    • +1

      Should've gone to Specsavers…

  • This or Samsung evo 860?
Been using a 250gb Samsung SSD and pretty happy with it
    Thinking to upgrade to 1TB

    • Samsung 860 is also TLC but has dram cache.

  • Thanks OP but this photo is of the MX series, not the BX series. Is it possible to update it? I was excited when I saw the photo until I realised it was not MX on offer :(
