  • whoo was planning on going to costco on Tuesday anyway! now to find something useful in these deals :p

  • +2

    Good job OP! :)

  • +2

So with some items they only state how much the saving is without actually giving the price? Weird.

  • OP do you know why on some products they tell the discount but not the price?

    • +3

nope i don't… my guess is that they are trying to avoid complaints from other retailers if the discounts actually undercuts them. Or, it might be a marketing ploy to get you to visit them… either way, i think this weeks' offer is worth a visit.. at least for me. :)

      • What is wrong with the undercutting? Isn't that the whole notion of doing businesses?

      • -1

Isn't it a breach of the Aus trading act? I think every promotion needs to label the price. Maybe ask the ACCC?

        • No it's not. Mainly because of the fact that this is an exclusive, members-only price/sales that is not available to the general public. (ie, you'd only be able to be contacted with these promotions only when you become a member.)

IMO, don't fret about this sort of thing too much, the demand for the things sold at costco is so elastic that if it's just a couple of dollars more, people will go elsewhere.

    • Perhaps the discounted price is still not attractive?

Perhaps stores in different states have different pricing albeit the same discount?

  • +2

This is one mad research. Tks OP :)

  • +6

to me they really dont seem that cheap i mean the specials are good but similar to when other supermarkets have them combined with the effort of going there and the membership fee is does not seem like that good a place to shop really for normal grocery's

Also it annoys me how they dont always put the price on things.

  • -5

    are the condoms discounted too?

    • +3

Don't worry, you'll never need any.

  • Interested in what the actual TV prices are.

    • I was looking at the Samsung D550 51" Plasma last Friday & think it was $1049. So would now be $900, which I believe is a great bargain (has anyone seen it cheaper?, personal reviews of people that own the D550?)

  • Some of this stuff isn't as cheap as i thought.. i go to my local bargain store and they actually have some of this stuff as the same price as the discounted stuff… =/

    • yep, certain things are not 'omg' cheap… in fact some of them are dearer if you compare to the specials prices outside. That said, there are certain products that are cheap (after much research), and which I'll be getting in bulk in costco.. :)

  • -4

Sitting here patiently waiting for some one to comment "ohh but you need to pay to become a member" (said in a daft yokel voice of course).

EDIT - I didn't read all the comments in enough detail. Looks like some one has already questioned it. Simple fact is no one is forcing you to shop anywhere. If you don't like their business model, which involves paying a membership fee, then simply don't go there move on and continue to get ripped off by the likes of Coles and Woolies because we all know their prices are down down…..sigh.

    • Read my post :)

    • HTF did they let you in. Costco Canberra won't even let you see what's inside before even opting for a membership

      • +2

Just walked in. Perhaps my cheapskateness emanated so strongly that they'd know immediately I would have been an bargain hunter type person :D

The guy behind the checkout chick asked me the same question, and was baffled when I told him I strolled right in.

Cue 'System of a Down - Cigaro'

    • +5

Give this guy a medal. You need to be a member to shop at Costco. Bloody genius!

    • -1

Just FYI, the sky is blue.

You might not have noticed this because of the large rock you appear to be living under ;)

    • Wow paranoid much

    • Ummm everyone knows you need a membership to shop at Costco?

    • +5

Why are people voting this down? I bet heaps of people don't know you need a membership to shop at costco - especially here in QLD where many have not even heard of it.

      • +3

It's because the people who know that you need a membership for Costco somehow think that they are much smarter than people who don't. The ignorance of someone stating obvious things like " FYI the sky is blue" is hilarious. And don't say "I was just kidding". Don't belittle someone just because they were not aware of the policy of a store that only has one presence in our entire state that spends virtually nothing on marketing and informing people of their conditions of purchase or entry.

  • what do you guys think of the ProForm Treadmill do you guys think its good value ?

  • From what I understand you should spend $1000 and up to see some believable saving, add the membership cost too!

    • -1

I don't know why you got neg voted. What you are saying is true. How do you think you will recoup your $60 membership? You might need to spend $1000 before your savings equal a $60 saving compared to shopping at other places. This figure could be less, it varies on what you buy obviously.

    • +1

Buying a kitcheaid or higher high margin product (especially hard to find USA products) will recoup the $60 in one saving. There is no hard rule that you need to spend $1000 to get that $60. There is no basis or evident support that $1000 rule

  • +1

Tell us the price, son! :D

    $ 70 OFF - Toshiba EL800A 26" LED LCD 720P HDTV Item 19962

It's hard to guess the price. $70 off rrp or off an actual previous warehouse price?

Has anyone visited during this sale to find out actual prices?

    • Doesn't start until tomorrow. :)

  • Do you have to get membership to shop in costco

    • yes or have someone with a membership to get you in and they have to pay at the register

  • some items maybe more expensive in costco..but remember..it's anytime refundable and lifetime warranty.
when newer model comes it…..your electronics probably aint "working" properly…. refund it..get new one.

    • Lifetime warranty? Never knew of it, where did you get the details from? Apply to all goods?

      • correction… lifetime warranty as long as you remain as a member…member for 10 years warranty 10 years!!

lots of those that neg costco on prices dont know the advantages of the membership.
60 dollars is ntg for what you can do with the stuff there…

        • Doesn't seem to be correct.

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/41911

After 90 days, buyers must contact the manufacturers for warranty.

          EDIT:
Looks like the above applies to US stores, while Aus stores still offer lifetime refunds and warranty

  • +1

doh wish i waited, went to costco today and got most of the items and some of them are going to be on 'sale' unbelievable - oh wells all good

    • if u are free ..u can go back and bring the items and receipt and ask for the difference…refund and all

      • interesting so i just go back and give receipt and they will go through each items and give a refund from the difference?
is it as simple as that?

    • I did the same thing, bought a few of the on-sale items last Friday :( Should of waited for the coupons to come out

  • +1

Many things are sold in bulk/larger quantity than what Coles/Woolies sell. This alone means there are many discounts to be had. Some things can be found cheaper elsewhere, or during certain weekly sales, but Costco is great for many things. I do my 'big' shop every 3 months at Costco (I was living in Melb, now Syd) and my fresh food/milk/etc shop at my local Woolies. Best solution for me.

  • Thanks op!

  • "although it is not necessary to be a member of Costco if you choose to shop online at the Costco website or buy Costco goods with a Costco credit card"

Is this correct? This CC appears to be free of annual fees.

    • +1

Costco Australia does not have an online store. That website is a scam.

If you read the footer, it says Cost Co Credit Card All Rights Reserved. Nothing to do with Costco. But I'm guessing he's prying unsuspecting/not too skeptical folks.

The name Roland Bleyer on Google paints a rather vibrant history. Could very well be different people but one should stay away from anything to do with this website. I'm surprised this website is even up and running and not taken down by ScamWatch? That website is SHOCKING in terms of quality and the numerous amount of grammatical and contextual errors can be your big sign to GTFO of there.

He also has multiple twitter accounts (mortgageau, debitcardau etc.).

History of his ABN points to:

Whilst the website claims that it is registered and statued in the year 2011, their business name have thus changed to:

Quick Google again brings you to http://www.pixelcapital.com/ which offers little to zero information about their investments
