Crest 2m Power Lead Clearance: IEC C13 ($4.50) & Figure 8 ($2.00) @ Coles

630

This was spotted in my local Coles in Wyoming on the Central Coast. Comments below have confirmed this is available in other Coles stores.

Not a huge saving, but a great price for retail of these. Just in case someone had a need for any of these.

Time to hand in your OzBargain card, not shopping for the best deal.

      • not shopping for the best deal.

I shopped for the best deal that was in-store… OW was more expensive.
Never occurred to me that Coles sell them.

          how much on ebay?

          • @[Deactivated]: Dunno, I need them same day so that wasn't an option.

          • @[Deactivated]: I paid AU$4.69 for one on eBay last year (delivered from Hong Kong), and that was after shopping around. I did check my local Coles at the time and they didn’t have any. I needed about a half-dozen, what I ended up doing was asking at my local Salvos and Vinnies if they had any, and picked up what I needed for $1 each.

@[Deactivated]: They get tons of appliance cables and PSUs every day, so they were happy to accommodate me. My penance for asking was having to fossick through the giant box of spaghetti at Vinnies. The Salvos guy had helpfully untangled everything and had 'em neatly hung on a pegboard (he was actually very organised). I also picked up some power supplies of different voltages and currents that I hacked together to make FrakenPSUs. In all, it saved me heaps of $$ and I was supporting a couple of charities in the process.

Have no idea if available in other Coles

I can confirm that these were available at my local Coles in Sydney.

  • same with my Coles in Mornington, VIC. Seems they're clearing out everything in their meager electrical goods section, really.

  • Anywhere I can get a white figure 8?

The Xiaomi 2S fan from Kogan came with a nice white but European plug.

        JV,….you've done it again!

I see what you did there :)

        Right angled too, nice.

    • You can also cut of the eu plug and wire it to an au plug. Just make sure the wires are connected to the right bits of metal.

      • (If you are confident) I believe this to be legal. Only house wiring is illegal unless qualified.

Nope, can't change plugs on appliances either. At least in NSW.

          • +2

@D C: Pretty sure it was modified interstate then brought across the border.

            • +1

              @BartholemewH: Yeah probably.

You can get 'qualified' by doing some BS course, like the 'tag & test' bollocks.

I have like 2 handful of Figure 8 and 4 handful of C13 lying in a storage box at home. Not Crest brand though.

Many Ozbargainers probably have spare cables. I've got a box of about 30 salvaged from old PCs & home appliances. Too good to throw out. Too many to store.

      • Hi. Does any IEC C13 cable work with any PC power supply unit?

        • Saw your other question - I'm not sure. I haven't had a desktop PC in years.

        • should work with most pc power supplies. just a standard pc power cord

          • @c64: Thanks for answering. By the way, do you know much about PC? Or does anyone? This computer shop I just bought a custom PC from (about 3 weeks ago) is trying to make deal with something like this. I used their 'Assembly and Testing' service. The power cable and power supply unit they chose for me don't fit properly (the cable is a bit loose on the PSU side/end). I've plugged the cable in as deep as possible but it still shakes quite considerably. I'm also having boot up problems (when I turn the PC on sometimes the display/screen, mouse and keyboard are not turning on) so I sent the PC back for diagnosis because it's still under their 1 year warranty. They've been diagnosing my PC for a few days but they told me they couldn't find any problem when I've been having the same problem since the first day I turned the PC on. They also told me the power cable fits in firmly. They tried to charge me $49 for the PC warranty return diagnosis too.

        • Should, but i must admit I found one with a C19. Manufacturer fault.

  • Any clover plugs?

    • No luck? :D

No wonder the Wolf can easily Blow it over lol.

        • +3

          The Wolf got electrocuted…

          • @jv: Haha, so you connected some Power Banks with a high voltage step up inverter to it,

or maybe even one of those nice Honda Petrol Generators posted last week lol.

Edit: Or maybe you just simply plugged that figure 8 lead into a spare wall socket in the shed ha.

@ozhunter68: Reminds me. I saw someone busking with a guitar amp, 12v gel cell, and a 240V inverter :P

Thanks OP. The discounted usb c cables were a much better deal.
Figure 8 online should be sub $1.
IEC cords can be found by the 100's in waste containers of computer shops.

  • Will this work with any PC PSU?

    • Yes IEC-C13 is the standard plug for PSUs.

  • Any cloverleaf connectors? For a laptop charger

    • +1

      Ignoring electrical safety:

      1. Grab a figure 8 and cut the gooch between the pins,
      2. Jam it in,
      3. ??????
      4. Profit !!
      • That's what she said

  • i nicked plenty from work, the IT guy didnt mind cos he would have had to pay the e-recycler. WIN-WIN

  • Just bought 3 figure 8 at Coles today
Got heaps of C13 at home but always have not enough of figure 8
Figure 8 are pretty useful given that most multi ports USB charger use them

Besides, lot of XiaoMi appliances like robot, air purifier use them too. Buying the cable with Australia plug is far safer comparing to using the AU plug adapter
