  • waits for negs on overpriced and outdated tech

      no thunderbolt 3

    • If this is overpriced, what would be a cheaper option if I don't need 4k support? Genuine question, as I can't find anything.

      • +1

i wouldn't say its over price, its only 100 bucks but just not the latest tech.

        • That's what I thought, thanks.

          • @elektron: Perhaps I should've said a waste of money

            • @Balljuice: Would you suggest a better buy (hopefully cheaper) around this price for someone who doesn't care about 4k? I have a 23" FHD monitor that I use for productivity tasks when working from home and have no intention of replacing any time soon.

Honestly the fact that it’s missing 4K even at 30hz should be in the title

if you can return to manufacturer I suggest you should

Per the comments in the description, if you're on a Mac don't even bother with one of these. Despite DisplayLink's best efforts over the last two years Apple's reworking of Mac OS X has effectively killed anything that uses DisplayLink technology in it. I ended up splashing out on a CalDigit TS3 Plus dock with Thunderbolt and getting some suitable cables to ensure the connections work. Yes, it was expensive (despite my getting 15% off Apple products with my work's rewards program), but considering how much it was costing me in time to bugger around trying to get my DisplayLink dock to work I think I've about broken even. I highly recommend the CalDigit dock, it's an awesome piece of kit.

  • Surely 50hz refresh rate limit at 1440p is a misprint? If true then noone should be buying this at all? Not even being able to use native framerates for most screens you can buy.

    • Good point.

  • The new HP Pavilion I got from the popular deal does not have USB-C charging. Does that mean it's of no use for me? I have 2-3 laptops that I swap between - with only one supporting USB-C charging.

  • A silly question. My PC is pretty old but satisfies my work needs. It doesn't have either USB 3 or type C, but 3 USB 2 have been serving me pretty well. Will this be compatible with USB 2?

    • Yes, USB3 has backward compatibility with USB2.

      • Thanks. does it mean, with AC power and USB 2 speed, it'll support dual monitors, ethernet and audio but not at full speed?

        • Not completely sure - perhaps others can confirm this.

        • I don't believe USB 2 is capable of supporting monitors.
