[EXPIRED] Acer Iconia 16GB - $386 at Harvey Norman

690

I saw a Harvey Norman ad on TV with the Iconia on sale for $386. Quite a good bargain for a solid Android tablet!
(the online website doesn't seem to have updated the price but hopefully will change by tomorrow)

Things are starting to get interesting now that the HP has blown the bottom out of the tablet market.

(EDIT: I mean bottom as in the proverbial, I don't mean this tablet is bottom end)

    • +4

i think Harvey is struggling. He was reported to be telling ppl to spend spend spend and be happy as $#it!

      • +8

Gerry's a sucker for publicity, he seems to want to bitch about everything.

        • +3

IMO, He's behaving like one of those attention seeking kids/friends that you know, and are stuck with in the room and you are trying very hard to ignore what he does/says…

        • +1

Is it just me or does there seem to be a unstoppable, constant, never-ending stream of shit coming out of that man's mouth? =/

    • Haha no you didn't ;)

  • Agreed, wish they sold more at that price id be in :)

  • Bought one yesterday from Officeworks for $488. It's already been unpackaged and used so do I have a chance of getting a full refund still or would they possibly compensate me the price difference if I showed them HN's price since OW price matches?

    • +31

Buy one from harvey and take it to officeworks for refund
      problem solvered

      • Genius

        • No if they check the barcode (likely).

        • +2

Barcodes are identical, and store staff won't bother opening the box for comparing serial numbers.

        • highly likely, I've bought some stuff there and return, they re-scan the bar code to reverse the auth.

just return as it is for full refund and say its not suitable, they won't question you.

        • -1

          Swap the boxes too then.

      • Genius indeed :-)

      • Don't think they would accept an unopened box from a different shop…The boxes have store stickers on them.

        • +2

          change lids
taking the plastic off the box is ok
the inside of the new one will be un opened
depends if the check the serial number of the machine to the box lid!

        • +8

Don't mess it up with an item from a different shop, just come back to OW and return it, they will accept it even opened box, Make sure you have all the bits and pieces from the original box and the receipt. I know their policies very well.

    • +7

just go and ask for refund… and see what the store manager says… and if you are stuck with 2 iconias, i don't mind taking it off your hands at $100 :D

      • -1

        I'll pay $110!

    • +1

I am pretty sure Officework has sanctification guarantee? I return things i don't like several time already…no question asks…just return it.

    • they refunded me the difference on a GPS unit after i had bought it. i found a better advertised price at dick smith and went to return it, but they gave me the difference without any fuss.

      • I guess either way you won't lose any, that's why i like to shop at OW~~good one OW

      • did they apply the 5% as well?

    • i know that at harvey if you find a cheaper price within 14days of purchase, they will refund you the difference. So i would suspect OW would do something similar

      • yeah but the sales staff at harveys are trained to provide zero after sales support and will probably actively fight your claim

      • +1

So let me get this straight: price match at OW for 5% off, pay with AMEX for $50 cashback, redeem $100 Acer eGift Voucher.

        Am I missing anything?

        • +1

Fly overseas and claim 10% GST back… or get a friend/relative who's flying to do it for you lol

BTW don't think you can claim $50 cashback with Officeworks… double check that

Nice deal, only wished the $100 Acer eGift voucher (only can buy ebooks and music online) was a prepaid Visa like Lenovo does it :)

    • I bought an Acer Iconia TAB from OW in June. After trying it out I decided I didn't like it since there were not too many apps available and it wasn't good for editing documents (which I wanted to do occasionally).
I reset the machine back to its factory state, packed it up and returned it to OW without any issues.

  • Damn good deal, thanks for this OP.

  • that's pretty cheap, will be traveling overseas soon too!

  • Does this have 3g

  • Similar to my Asus Transformer but it is an Acer, not sure of its quality.

    • -1

The Iconia is the best tablet on the market at the moment bar none.

      • -3

        Galaxy Tab 8.9 > Galaxy Tab 10.1 > Ipad 2 > Transformer, Iconia, Thrive…

      • +1

        I think transformer is better!

      • dude thats just a matter of opinion… they're all the same… i personally don't like the iconia because 1. its an acer and 2. its chunky as!

  • +3

If you have AMEX…$50 bucks off that price!

  • Yeah, good deal, except if you don't mind Amazon you can get an asus transformer for 400 shipped, and I think that is a considerable step up.

    • Transformer vs Iconia just comes down to personal preference as they're on par with each other.

      • +1

oh really? what are some reasons the iconia is better than the transformer?

I can only think of one.

        1. price (only in america)

        everything else:

        1. screen - easily transformer
        2. battery life - transformer
        3. ability to dock - transformer
        4. general feel (transformer is slightly faster in stock mode)
        5. overclock - transformer stable 1.7 with benchmarks over 5.1k (although this may not directly correspond to performance) vs iconia's 1.6ghz <5000

I'm not saying this to start a dispute or anything, It's just after a lot of reading, most of what I've seen is pro transformer. and given the very similar prices HN vs amazon, that is my logical preference. In america the iconia goes for 300 (cheapest) and the transformer 400 (cheapest 350 at best buy and some other places the other day, but no lower :)

        • +2

Oh, and build quality (transformer), aesthetics (somewhat relative)

edited ahh. i just read down. the acer has a usb port. that is indeed useful!

        • USB host on Iconia.
I have an Iconia, beats the Transformer for that reason alone.

        • Not that easy. Have a look at this comparison: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1240729

        • don't bother talking about overclock unless you can root the new transformers.

  • +1

I was under the impression it was a promo for certain shops, in particular northern NSW shops Lismore and Ballina

a link to the print advert a mate sent me today https://www.evernote.com/shard/s86/sh/fbafca03-8bf3-426d-aae…

  • How good is this compared to the Asus Transformer?

    • Better. Can't overstate the usefulness of a USB port.

      • The transformer has a USB port too, though you will need the dock for that.

        • or the USB adapter that will be out soon… plugs into the charging port to give you a fully working USB port

        • The iPad arguably has a USB port too if you get an adapter…

    • Depends on what you value in a tablet. Here's a comparison (which should be taken with a grain of salt too): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1240729

  • +1

theres a pretty good review on the 2 here. i prefer the acer as it has an actual USB port..comes quite handy, but then that makes it thicker than the asus transformer

  • great price especially after the OW discount!

    • Do you get $50 from OW using Amex?

    • There's a discount for this at OW?

      • I think he means 5% price beat at OW…

        • yes thats what i meant sorry

        • Ah I see! Will this deal work in Melbourne?

    • +1

$366.70, just as good as the amazon deal, even better if you could claim 10% gst bringing down to $330 damn !

      • Best deal since the Touchpad…

  • +3

    ICE CREAM IN 12 WEEKS.

    Kal-El

    • +1

Can't wait for Kal-El. It will make Tablets not as gimmicky, as you can do virtually anything and everything. It can play 1080p video with ease apparently!

      • Does it support flash "game" ?

  • I'll be waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich :)

  • Im going over seas tomorrow, thinking about picking 1 up in the morning. When does it go on sale for this price?

    • should be live tomorrow. just walk in and say you saw the tv ad and are going o/s and would like it now. can't hurt to try :)

  • it is now $386 on HN website

    • hopefully more tablets would have their prices dropped.

      • +1

they will and i will wait

  • Just got 1 from officeworks. Thanks OP!

  • Can someone who bought one confirm that it has GPS? Can't find it on the spec sheet on the HN or the Acer site.

  • If only the 3G tabs would drop in price. Missed the $430 Iconia A501 16Gb 3G from ACT last week. Wouldnt post to WA :( Buy the time I made other arrangements, they had finished deal. Best I can do now is $617 for same :(

  • +1

First time I have seen it cheaper than the $400 OW deal a while back. Great deal.

  • Great deal, I expect Officeworks to drop their price to match it once they get wind of it. My local store did this recently when HN had Belkin N150 routers down to $29 for a weekend sale - they dropped theirs to $29 as well but removed all stock from the shelves.

  • +1

Just got one at OfficeWorks with the price match and 5% beat for $366.70.

  • Wouldn't mind getting this if it was about the same weight as the iPad 2

  • +2

I like the way that with The Logitech Shop deals people are all like "no don't go to OW for a price match, show some gratitude to the store that first posted the cheap price and buy from the Logitech Shop". But when it's Harvey Norman everyone's fine with a OW pricematch…(I'm fine with that too, by the way. I'm no HN fan….just found it an amusing observation)

    • I had to use OW for a price match recently on a keyboard as I dont have a paypal account nor would I get one.

  • Anyone know about the $100 Acer eGift Voucher for this one details on www.shopacer.com.au
Good Guys have the A501 advertise with this. According to www.shopacer.co,.au A500 is one of the model but not sure apply for HN one?

  • I'm going overseas on the 9th oct, so I'll have to buy the tablet after the 9th of sept to claim the gst refund, but the sale is over by then!! Any ideas on how to buy now and still get a refund?

    • +1

You could maybe layby and picked it up after the 9th. Final receipt would show the date you picked up the unit.

    • Get a mate to claim it through their business to get the GST back. They will get a tax deduction on it as well which makes it worth their while.

Or better still if you have kids at school, claim it through the education tax refund, only problem with this is you have to wait until you lodge your 2012 tax return.

  • got one @ HN, hope the amex $50 cash back work ^.^

i have tried running ABC Reading Eggs, it can run smoothly…my kids going to love it!!!

  • Officeworks price matched at Burleigh Heads Gold Coast for $366.70 :)

  • What's a good case to get for these? And where from?

    • Ebay portfolio cases are pretty good, much better than the official Acer ones. $12-$25.

  • Got one at Officeworks too, although just as I was buying it, they were changing their tag price to match HN's so they would not have to givr the 5% extra :)

  • -1

The fact that so many folks are jumping on this, the deal has gone some way in resetting tablet prices back to their pre-touchpad inflated value.

  • -2

Same price WITHOUT DISCOUNT on officeworks website…http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Tablets/ACITA50016

    so what's the big deal?

  • Went to office works and they had already matched the price. Also interesting is I was told that there was only 3 Iconia left in all Melbourne stores.

After playing with all the tablets decided that the Asus Transformer 16Gb would suit me better (and I like the look).
Good Guys beat the Harvey Norman price and provided a free 16Gb micro SD card as part of their Fathers Day deal. And I get my $50 cash back from Amex.

So after Amex cash back, I will end up paying $420 and get a 16Gb micro SD card for free.

  • Thanks for the post. Saw it last night!

I previously bought the A500 last Monday from JB HiFi for $488. So I brought it back earlier today to ask for a refund as I realised the right side (where the USB port is) creaks a lot whilie others on display in HN, OW and JB did not. Then the guy in JB offered to price match HN's price so I got $102 back.

Now the new box of A500 is still sitting there not yet opened and I am wondering if I should get a refund with it (since their refund policy allows for an unopened product) and get from OW or HN. Wished I have known about OW's wonderful return policy earlier..

  • Expired ! Price gone back to $498.

  • Expired? Not until the 18th of September now!
