Seiko 5 Sports Automatic SRPD65K-4 $299 Delivered (and Seiko Presage Watches) @ Starbuy

110

This is supposedly a spiritual successor to the popular (and now discontinued Seiko SKX007) with some….interesting choices made by Seiko during the design of this watch.

Powered by the 4R35 movement (upgraded version of the venerable 7S26 movement), but without the same level of water resistance (100m here vs 200m in the Seiko SKX007). If you are looking for a sporty watch (but not looking to take it into the deeps of the ocean with you), this seems to be a pretty good deal! Down from $550 to $299.

Thank you for the post @TheNewDeal. Hello all, shameless plug however the best seller has been the SRP777P9 from the flash sale. https://www.starbuy.com.au/starbuy-deal-of-the-day/weekend-f…

    • is this one made in Japan version?

      • @ozyhsk, this is not. Thanks

        • thanks for your reply….

would be able to tell where is this made, malaysia? is this why it's on sale?

also which one would you recommend between:

          • Citizen Automatic 200m NY0085-86E
          • Seiko Turtle SRP777P9
          • @ozyhsk: Pleasure. The sale is not because its made elsewhere. We just picked up a large quantity because the price was too good and hence the low price. Historically, the SRP777 has been our best seller in Turtles and it does not usually come on sale. This model is cased in China. I personally feel that Citizen do a very good solar power watch but they are not as strong on mechanicals as Seiko. This is the second coming of the Citizen automatics. The SRP777 is a turtle classic so for the money, I would suggest the Turtle from both a collectible and a performance point of view.

            Thanks

Good price for this one, previous best to my knowledge was $359. Personally I think the loss of 200m WR and screwdown crown is worth it for the better movement - SKX was always too played out and a case of overpaying for hype. They were $300-500 AUD for grey stock, while I bought the SRPB39K with the 4R36a (Seiko 5 Auto Orange Baby Monster) for $139 with official Seiko warranty from Starbuy. Yes it's only 100m WR, but if i'm going to go diving i'd much prefer an ecodrive (such as the citizen promaster line), and its only ever a distant backup to your dive computer. 100m WR is fine for most use cases - if you really need to swim or dive with it get a g-shock - no need to remember to screw down the crown, no need to ever reset the time, 200m WR and cheap enough.

For the best possible value out of the Seiko 5 line i'd personally be going for SRPD51K or SRPD55K, not mentioned in the email blast but both come on the bracelet and both are selling for $325 right now. Imo well worth the extra $26 for bracelet, assuming you weren't married to the black stainless case and were happy with regular stainless finish.

If anyone is concerned about StarBuy themselves and that such big discounts off retail are too good to be true, rest assured they're legit. I've bought 4 Citizen Eco-Drives, 1 Citizen Automatic, 3 Seiko Automatics and 1 Bulova Automatic from them over the past 4-5 years with no issues except for one time where Australia post dropped the ball (incorrect tracking info, watch was lost, turned out it was at the local post office for over a week and tracking was wrong). Unless ordered over the weekend or on Friday I've recieved watches 1-2 days after ordering to Canberra and regional queensland. Back in the day I had a watch shipped to regional New Zealand South Island and it arrived in just under a week. From my experience buying from these guys the prices they list at are always below RRP, so compared to buying from most Jewellers or from the Boutique you're already saving. Then there are swings in price between when something is on a sale or not - thats where you see price variability and have to be willing to wait and review previous data to see if you're getting the best deal. In general you will always get a good deal and a good experience though.

    • when were the SKX's $300-500?

I bought a grey market one for $145 5 years ago and they were a hot item back then (otherwise I never would have come across them in the first place).

      still humming along beautifully.

      • Last 2 or so years, maybe earlier. I'd only looked into them in the last 2 year's.

  • Hey store rep, any chance you can discount SRPD79K back down to $350 like it was a few weeks ago?

    • Not at the moment. That would be a one off offer as Seiko are now totally sold out in Australia so they will not be getting any stock and nothing at the lower price. Thanks

  • It's a 4R36 not 35 … it's a day/date.

I bought this same watch through DROP in the states, for more money and only a 1 year return to them warranty so this is a bargain … but …. it failed with the date adjusting function failing in under a week. Added to that it's not all that accurate (much better then spec though which is something like +-20 sec per day), but for a fashion watch it's great.

I was wondering who is buying them…

  • Hi Store Rep, is there a search function on your site?
Eg. If you know the model number and want to quickly find it rather than using the filters…

    • Unfortunately not. We are due a revamp of the site and we will be including the feature in the new one. It is however still a few months away. Thanks

Hi Store Rep, any luck on StarBuy offering some further discounts on the new Alpinists? Thanks!

    • +1

@panpowa. Not on the Alpinists. We are unable to get any stock in bulk as there is a shortage of stock at the moment. It will be a good 5-7 months before the Alpinists are supplied in any meaningful quantities for us to lower the price more.
      Thanks

    • Hey mate I was keen on an alpinist too, they're $673 on Amazon.

      • The Alpinist on Amazon is the older version. Thanks
