This popular deal is back.

Great for storing Linux ISO's!

Unfortunately no more cashback from CR or SB but still a decent deal.

I shucked one of these a month ago and it was a Seagate Barracuda inside (Model: ST8000DM004)

  • Good deal, especially for those who got shafted on the 10Tb drive. This is equivalent ~$254/10Tb

    • +1

What do you mean shafted? I must have missed this?

This deal back in mid Jan (WD 10tb $231)
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/512888

After waiting 7 weeks, they cancelled orders, saying they can’t get stock…..but they do in the US and it’s now $305.

        • Bummer.

    • +1

PMR Barracuda Pro in 10TB is a way better drive and IMO worth $50 premium.

      • But it's displaying as $100 more not $50??

        • +1

Current average price per TB for Seagate drives is $25, so 10TB should cost around $250. It costs $300. For extra $5/TB or $50/drive you're likely will be getting much faster and allegedly more reliable albeit not repairable Helium filled PMR drive.

  • 203 + AUS plug

  • SMR?

    • +1

      No idea.

Does it matter much? I mean it's an 8TB storage/archive drive at 5400RPM. Writes/reads are gonna be slow regardless.

      • Wouldn't it kinda suck for torrents though because it's not sequential

      • with SMR, the speed will be worst than a PMR 5400rpm as the drive fills up

also there is concern about reliability of data with SMR drives

    • +1

      Yes, PMR model is DM0004

      • OP is saying it is a ST8000DM004 though? So it is PMR?

        • Is there difference between DM004 and DM0004?

  • Not sure about US plug thing, I bought same US Plug 6TB and it came with one US plug, one US/CN, one EU, one KR, one UK and one Oz.

    • Same here with the 10TB drive

    Any ozbargainers collect Linux ISO's?

When first reading this in the OP, thought, yeah sure, but it does make some sense Linux ISO's are a good free download bargain, and maybe suitable for ozbargainers, yet can not remember seeing and Linux Posts on Ozbargain.

    • +6

      It's a euphemism for certain mp4 content.

      • +2

        Or mkv :)

      • yeah…

cat videos are very popular on the net

    • yet can not remember seeing and any Linux Posts on Ozbargain

The reason is that always free software go to this forum, but if there is a deal on say Red Hat Enterprise Server, by all means write up a post.

I do have a collection of Linux LiveCD ISOs for testing computers. Easier than installing Windows or getting DOS to work.

      • I totally understand, I also keep testing my "computer" with my "Linux LiveCD ISOs" on a regular basis, just to see if it still works.

        • +4

And you need a bigger NAS to store all these new 4K Linux releases.

CF: dmesg. alvian can boot up a system without having to install what they are using and/or disconnect the network to save ages arguing over whether you or Microsoft get to own and control all information on that system, and can then merely study the dmesg output to check whether all the hardware and accessories are conceteed and detected without being kept away from the metal by several levels of abstraction.

You knew that of course. Got to run as I have some releases to check out after the supermarket gets the next delivery of tissues.

Just my luck…bought 2 x 6TB from Goodguys yesterday via eBay…for $159.20 each plus shipping. Now this pops up…

  • Is there anyone who purchased this exact item recently that can confirm whether it arrives with only a US plug (as advertised)? Thanks!

    • Mine came with a us plug.

    • Hint: 12V 2A 5525 power supplies are the most common out there, almost all wifi routers come with one, I use power supply from old Optus Sagemcom modem with no issues and people giving them away for free on gumtree.

      • Thank you DainB for helping out a newbie!
        Thanks to Skramit too :)
