  • I was offered 6 months at the time then ran into nothing but issues for the first 6 months but seems to be stable next 6

The NBN became available just yesterday for me. I wish I were able to take up the 6 months free offer last year.

Not a fan of Optus NBN:

Works out to be $61.25 a month.

    You’re locked into 24 months.

You’re with one of the least performance rated NBN providers.

    You talk to support overseas.

Here is a provider that guaranties CVC, has local Australian support and does not lock you into a contract:

Launtel: 50/20Mbps $68 no discount, $62.40 with earlyadopter discount code. Link is in other deals. No contract. 7 day trial. $25 credit on sign up. Codes can be found in the internet deals referrals.

You can find similar prices from MateNBN for $59-69 for 50Mbps no contract, tangerine telecom, superloop etc

Don’t sign a contract with a telecom provider for fixed line especially HFC as it’s got a higher fault rate than FTTN atm.

Not sure about others but month-to-month plan was available with a free modem for me. Min. Total Cost $70 over 1 month including $0 start-up fee

“Min. cost $1,470 over 24mths includes 3 month free nbn™ access offer”

This is what the deal says. If you get a free modem and 3 months free and no sign up costs. Then it’s worth it.

      • I also have month to month option available for $70, $0 sign up cost, free modem, and first 3 months free.

Pretty much a no-brainer to try out Optus NBN for at least 3 months

        • Where do people find this deal? Put in their address?

      • Yep me too although accidentally clicked on the 24 month option, then resubmitted the month to month. Waiting for it to make it’s way through the sausage machine

  • +1

I got 3 months free with month to month and a modem/install.

I was originally paying $60 for cable and they matched that.

Additionally, they offered me 25% off a new mobile plan when you get a new phone.

  • optus NBN is a complete waste of money. avoid at all costs

  • +3

They offered me this, but wouldn't match my cable price of $60, so I got a better deal with Aussie Broadband. 50/20, $59/month for six months, no contract. Its been good.

Oh man. Wish telstra had a migration offer. Delaying the move from cable as long as I can

    • Ditto! I'm not holding my breath though for Telstra to do anything remotely similar…

  • +1

    Thanks OP

migrated for $60/m - matching current cable pricing

24 months with $0 setup, and 3 months free.

    • Did you call them up for price match?

      • chat.

hate calling, dont understand them half the time.

        • I might try as well. I don't think they will offer this month to month though

          Thank you

          • @BudgetBountyOz: always got ACL to fall back onto if things not working out.

i have no issue wiht 24 months, and $60/m is fair.

            • @[Deactivated]: I cancelled the application and need to wait 24 hrs to sign up. Will try again tomorrow. Thank you!

    • +1

I tried just now with online chat but they only offer either $60/month OR 3 months free. Not good enough.
I am currently on $60/month with free speed boost to 100Mbps!!

      • table the facts. 1. You are on 60$/m and thus will change provider if they dont offer what you currently pay 2. Since there if a promo for 24m + 3 mths free and no installation, you would like to take up on that offer.

Also told him/her my friend has received this offer.

  • +1

We got 6m free, however the congestion is so bad at times it's worse than dial-up, so I wouldn't recommend this to anyo9.

  • +1

I'm on this same promo. Was an easy cut over to NBN. Had my on personal concierge that looked after everything. Gateway was about 3 weeks late, but that was fine because I was happy with my cable. Had both cable and NBN running concurrently, and didn't switch off my cable until I was happy. Great transition from old into new.

  • +1

I pay $60 for unlimited downloads, 100mbps (usually a steady 70mbps) on Optus cable. I never want to switch off it and will resist until they send some poor contractor to my door.

    • i think they switch your current cable off and instantly it becomes nbn with slower speeds and higher prices :)

      • Well they can't "instantly" do it. It's different technologies and cables and I dont have the NBN box installed on my house.

        • I was in the exact situation. Unfortunately the day will come. You get 18 months to cut over when NBN are in your hood. I was waiting for the 11th hour too, and this 3 months free option came along, so I thought this was the best way to migrate.

          • @Fluid Head: Optus cable customers only get 3 months to cut over to nbn.

    • Optus made a deal with nbn to shutdown the cable network in 3 months when your home is nbn ready.

  • It's probably worth pointing out that a "free modem" is not very good value on HFC, because NBNco provides the "modem" for free and all you need is a router.

    • It is Optus AC WiFi Modem they are providing

      • +2

Which is a piece of excrement.

        • That’s not fair. Excrement has many uses. The Optus modem has only one. Paper weight.

  • +1

    Thanks OP
Bought and will trial for 3 months - if no good then will churn to ABB/Superloop/<insert OzB favourite>

  • I was in an area that went through Optus HFC migraton a while ago. There were some stuff ups with equipment deliveries . Complained and ended up get 12 months free. Fibre to the premise service is solid. Customer service is still a shambles. Had a look at the current Optus bundles. I'm getting the $120 bundle plan for $95. Optus fibre modem is OK but given that I had my own ASUS router already (OZB deal) from the cable setup I still use that.

  • This is what I was offered about 2 months ago when I was on Optus cable, 3 months free, month to month, landline stays active though you pay for each call though I/we never use the landline. It's a great deal. The download speed has always been above 46mbps according to Ookla speed test no matter what time of day. I am really happy with the NBN at my place.

  • I wonder if there will be a better deal if I wait it out till tomorrow.
