  • tried the triple chili and it was too hot for me

    • Agree and I usually like hot.

    • +2

      Love the Triple Chilli but didn't find it too hot for me? If too hot, Chillie in Oil is awesome too

    • +2

      Tried it once, but didn’t they just add one extra chilly in there?

    • You must not be Asian. I didn't even feel any heat from eating it lol

    • +2

      Too hot? Hot damn.

    Be surprised if there's any stock thanks to douche bags hoarding everything

    • +3

      Nah, they seem to be only stockpiling Aussie-made stuff like Toilet paper, rice, pasta, flour, sugar.
      The actual stuff from OS which might actually run out like tinned tomatoes, soy sauce, panco bread crumbs, pain killers, ect all seem to be plentiful. The next items they’ll start hoarding will be Timtams, vegemite, meat pies, milky ways & Anzac biccies.

      • +2

        yeah it's very odd the stuff that's left and the stuff that's selling out. Tuna is a cheap and healthy source of protein which has a shelf life of years but there's still so much at my stores compared to other stuff

        • not if you go to aldi ……empty shelves where for tuna, and when they do get stock it’s customer limits ….

  • Sirena Tuna is the new toilet paper. BUY!

    • +1

      No, don't tell the minions to bulk buy Sirena Tuna. Leave them for me!

    Love Italian style. On a fresh bread roll for spinach and tomato. Need several more cases to augment the 70+ cans I already have.

    • +1

      Only 70?
      You're not trying

  • SOLE MARE Tuna is much better.

    • +2

      Nope.

      • -2

        Yep, more tuna in the can and they only use olive oil.

        • -1

          Still nope.

          • -1

            @Icecold5000: if you prefer less %tuna per can and inferior oil, go for it…

            • -1

              @jv: Blah blah blah.

              • -3

                @Icecold5000:

                Blah blah blah.

                You must have put a lot of thought in that…

    • Yeah. Can't agree with you there.

      I love my canned fish and Sole Mare isn't the good stuff for neither tuna nor sardines.

      • Sirena also mixes in Skipjack tuna in their cans so it's not just yellowfin…

        • say yellow fin on the can for sirena so i doubt the skip jack ……skip jack is smaller fish so ends up in brands like john west.

          • +3

            @garage sale:

            say yellow fin on the can for sirena so i doubt the skip jack

            The Sirena website says they also use skipkack

            https://www.sirena.com.au/sustainability/details/

            Ensuring 100% Pole and Line caught Yellowfin (Thunnus albacares) & Skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) tuna is used across our entire product range.

            choice magazine has criticised them for not being clear about quantities of each in their cans…

        • +1

          If we were talking about fresh fish, the skipjack would be a definite turnoff but in canned tuna, it is the cut and the cooking recipe that has a bigger impact vs the type of fish.

          I understand that personal preference comes into this, and probably even nostalgia.

          Sirena wins all of the above for me.

  • I heard this brand is yummier. Can anyone confirm?

    • -2

      Maybe better than John West, but SOLE MARE is better than Sirena.

      • Where do you buy yours jv?

        • At our local deli.

          • @jv: Price/weight?

            • +3

              @muwu:

              Price/weight?

              It's usually around $2 and I weigh about 95kg.

              • +2

                @jv:

                …and I weigh about 95kg

                I'd suggest sticking to the springwater variety then

    • For tuna in oil (and any other variations in oil), it doesn't get much better than Sirena.

      Had one brand a few years ago that was a little better but 3x more expensive.

      • -1

        For tuna in oil

        tuna tastes best in 100% olive oil.

        • +1

          Tuna tastes best fresh and seared.

          On the subject, I had tried sole mare once and didn't find the tuna tasting better than sirena. Probably just preference after all.

          • -1

            @Entheogen:

            Tuna tastes best fresh and seared.

            We're talking canned and cooked tuna here, not fresh…

    Remember to search through each can with a fork to remove the black tumours from the flesh before you eat it. 'Tuna Tumours' i call them, can ruin a good meal!

    • +1

      so it's not cracked back pepper?

      • +2

        cracked back pepper?

        Might need to go see a chiro for that…

  • Love the chilli one. Normally stock up when it's half price, but don't think I can do that at the moment…

  • +1

    OP, how do you get notifications of IGA catalogue specials so early?

  • I think different stores will have this for different prices. My local store is showing this will be $1.44 on Wednesday.
