That’s not the dell outlet. Also Cashrewards is offering 10% CB

  • Can you get cash back on dell outlet

    • -2

      nope

    • +4

But this is not from the outlet as mentioned above.

Ordered one 12 days ago, estimated arrival 20th April.
Just so ya know, wrote to dell a few times and fast shipping not really on their radar

    • China is not at full building capacity and now the world is shutting down. April 20 is going to be a early estimation.

      • I bought a new laptop this past week and half the challenge was finding something in stock in Australia that was ready for delivery. Compromises were made.

      • My recent Dell laptop came from Malaysia. Hopefully they're coping a bit better.

  • +1

this is a great model, very light

  • Specs and everything look great. But hows the quality control?

    • Got one for the dad, pretty good for workflow stuff. There are some issues with the fingerprint scanner accuracy.. Build quality is fairly nice for a magnesium alloy body. I'd reccommend it if you want just want a basic laptop for doing normal stuff and maybe some light gaming. Trackpad placement is slightly unusual (off to the left on the body) and keyboard is just ok imo. There are also some fan issues but can be fixed if you go into settings.

I have this laptop (2018 model) and I can honestly say that i'm quite happy with it. I also have a 2018 XPS 15 and macbook pro 16", both of which I use for work.
You could call the Inspiron 15 7590 the XPS 15 lite. Having said that, they have not cut corners in important areas and it compares reasonably favourably with the XPS and macbook. The only area where mine falls short is battery life, otherwise it's great bang for buck. Build quality is decent too (not XPS or Apple levels though).

    • Can you please tell me which one you would prefer, MBP16 or Dell XPS and why?

  • It's been this price for a few weeks now. This is a decent value but Dell has shown to have bad QC on their lower end models. These Inspirons with H series processors also tend to run hot and thermal throttle under high load.

    • so which dell laptop u recommend?

      • Ideally I’d recommend against Dell. But if you have your heart set on Dell I’d recommend their Latitude line, though it may be cost prohibitive.

The cheapest Dell option would be to purchase this with the “Accidental Damage Protection“, and exercise your right to a new one once the time comes. :)

This is not a low end model. It's a 7000 series machine, which is the top end of their consumer grade machines before the premium XPS range. My experience is that the metal-body Inspirons are very well made, and Dell's warranty service is absolutely top-notch if anything goes wrong. My last 7000 series went 5 years before anything broke, and even then it was an easy cheap fix.

If you're travelling a lot, the business grade Latitude models are tougher and have an even better warranty, but are considerably more expensive.

@klaw81 I'll agree to disagree. Although I'm interested to know, what is the primary use of your laptop?

        • It was mostly used for work when new - 3d CAD modelling in AutoCAD, Revit and SolidWorks. Later it became a gaming machine while I was travelling, as I upgraded to a desktop as my primary workstation.

It's now relegated to general and office duties - browser, word processor, accounting software and occasional photo edits and movie streaming.

The keyboard died after 4 years, but a replacement is really simple and only cost $30. Battery life is getting a bit short these days but the battery is also easy and cheap to replace if required.

  • There's some similar refurbished Dell Inspirons on Kogan.

Minimum XPS or Precision.. other than those its a throw away..

  • +5

I have the same exact model, got it for the same price as well. I have upgraded it to 16 gbs ram and 1 tb ssd, this can be done yourself, it was a fairly easy and cheap (around 160 au$ in total) process, there are youtube guides.
I do light gaming (Fifa 19, forza horizon 4, they all run very well on ultra settings).
I also do alot of simulations, on matlab, Ansys Aqwa, and even Ansys FLuent. It's not a workstation but I'm working from home without a problem, the core i7 on this is a good one. The gpu can be used to accelerate the simulations as well.

The trackpad is excellent, the keyboard is OK. It's really good for fast typing, but it's not a Thinkpad keyboard.
The battery is really good, full day of light work (Browsing, emails, Microsoft word and excell…).
The screen is really nice as well.

Use Dell's thermal manager, you can easily switch between awesome performance or 7-8 hours of battery life (on 60-70% brightness).

    • +3

That is really helpful, thanks :)

    • +1

Can you please verify the size of the battery in your unit?

      • I would also like to know the same. But considering the review unit lasted over a 1000 mins of web surfing time, I am assuming he has the 3 cells ones.

      • +2

That's a good point. And sorry I have forgotten to mention it, I didn't realize that I have the model with the bigger battery. I have the 97whr battery.

  • 10% Cashback [$119.9] with Shopback so $1079.1 after cashback

Cashrewards is currently offering 10% cashback: https://www.cashrewards.com.au/dell-australia

ShopBack is back to 4% cashback for Inspiron.

  • I cancelled my order for the new 15" XPS due to the lead time being more than 2 months, and glad I did because this deal is awesome! It has the exact same specs and is less than half the price. Very good reviews - obviously the build quality isn't going to be quite as high as the XPS but from what I've read it's not far off.
The only thing I regret is not using Cashrewards over Shopback. Shopback says 'up to' 9% cashback however it ended up being half that…
32gb of RAM for $200 at uMart on sale and a cheap SSD upgrade and you've got quite a beast for the money.

      • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive

      "Cheap" upgrade from 512gb?

  • +1

Anyone else notice the 3 cell 56Whr battery? I had the impression of 90Whr battery from somewhere.

    • Yep was just about to comment this. The 9300H has a 56whr battery, only the 9750H model has the 90whr batery annoyingly enough. I would've copped this if it had the bigger battery as the 9750H apparently runs hot in this chasis.

    • Yeh - the reviewed version had 97Wh

      • So that would still mean at least 600 mins of web surfing or 400 mins video playback? I guess that should be decent enough. Just wondering if I should pull the strings on this.

Update, ordered 6th March, they haven't got any cpus to build yet. Estimated 20th April but hasn't started production yet

    • Yeah I bought on 20th March, took >48hrs to confirm order (after charging card), no updates on production, trying to get on chat since then has been consistently shown "Chat is currently unavailable".
The delivery estimate of 6th April on screen right now seems wildly optimistic.

How do u know re CPUs?

      • One person told me that. Phone support since said that's not true yesterday, no parts delay and no reason for the delay.

After almost 3 weeks status now changed to in production after many emails and calls.

Had to go to a supervisor to get anyone to do anything

If you ordered 20th I'd be a bit patient!

They say they had placed a hold on my order because apparently I asked them to…. (you don't even get an option to do th t on checkout..)

I've only bought premade machines from them before and was always easy!

The support staff amaze me, pretty much worse than Telstra for passing the buck and just transferring you and not doing what they say they will

        And this is for sales!

Never again unless it's ready to ship

        • I ended up talking to someone and got related details, I'd actually been trying to get through for days, had emailed also and when I got through they confirmed it had been expedited for delivery by April 6th at the latest (which was actually the original, non-expedited date, but hey #COVID19, so I took them at their word), now lo and behold it is showing as now being shipped.

Yet it's now showing as delivering by April 22nd, which completely screws up all my plans. I discussed this in detail re getting a refund, and would have done so on spot if they hadn't confirmed April 6th as latest possible delivery #facepalm.

Oh also, they confirmed they've taken chat offline coz #covid19

          • @nessism: If it says shipped i'm sure it will arrive before 22nd.

Just keep an eye on your shipment with DBSchenker site
Mine said shipped yesterday after 1 day in production, but it means it is waiting to be picked up from the warehouse which can tak a few days.
Then it gets shipped to the hub in Malaysia to wait for pickup before it starts the journey to Aus :)
Learned a lot about dell's incredibly convoluted processes thru this, hah.

            https://eschenker.dbschenker.com/nges-portal/public/en-US_US…

Replace ##YOURORDERNUMBER## with your 8xxxxx order ID.

            • @badonde: Thanks but that link didn't work for me - shows "Sorry, no data found for references".

I can however put it in the same order # and get a result at: https://dellpleportal.dbschenker.com.au/ETA/ETAquery

Here I was able to change date from Apr 20th to March 30th - worth a try! No extra charges or enything and now shows:

Your Dell Order No ###(####) has an ETA of 30/03/2020

No idea if it's actually expedited delivery now or what, bizarre system.

              • @nessism: Did it work? 😉

                • @badonde: Nope, NONE of the dbschenker tracking stuff makes ANY sense, even getting through to official customer service and they have no idea what's going on, nor does Dell. After jumping through hoops it's supposedly coming somewhat close to original delivery date of 6th April, supposedly expedited.
                  Fingers crossed.

  • Hey, yeah that site actually isn't accurate at all apparently.
I've been told delivery 10th April but that site says 22-23rd.

On here choose Sales Order Number in the drop down and enter your Order ID
    https://eschenker.dbschenker.com/nges-portal/public/en-US_US…

If nothing shows, it hasn't been booked with them yet.

I asked if it can be sent express since it's now 3 weeks for a 4-6 day business day delivery, he said it is on hold in the warehouse due to COVID, waiting to be picked up

    • Multiple things were showing it as being registered, others said it had been picked up, and only the latest in long line of reps confirmed it hadn't but def WOULD be today.

Yet now it's showing Sorry, no data found for references , though it's been confirmed as shipping today for delivery "before or at 6th April latest".
      Does not bode well :|

  • I got the 7591 (10th Gen i7, 16GB ram but only nvidia MX250…) I'm not sure I made the right decision. I usually keep laptops for a long time and game mostly on ps4 but am kicking myself a bit now that maybe the i5 + gtx 1650 would have been a better combo and to just add ram later (Can you even add memory on this laptop?). I made the purchase with battery life in mind as I a back to school adult… I was running ubuntu mate(It would let you type docs/annotate pdf's on a latitude d630 and run without fan on somehow, with new battery/ a donated ssd and make it through half of the day but it finally died… 2008-2020 rip. I'm happy with the purchase though the keyboard is closer to a latitude than not, feels fairly stable. Ordered 6th march and took 3 weeks)

(Can you even add memory on this laptop?)

You can add memory to most Dell laptops, especially 7000 series.

7590 has 2 slots (2666 MHz) for up to 32 GB max:

If you're running Ubuntu the GTX 1650 wouldn't be any better than the MX250, also it all comes down to GPU driver support with Linux.

I bought the i5 without realising it had the smaller battery, but then realised the smaller batt allows an extra SSD to be put in, which is actually better for me than extra batt life. The i7 would've been nice, but def not worth >1k more.
