Might be good to mention it is the ipad 1 and it is the 3G version

    • Thanks. That's a good point and I've made the change.

Im waiting for the ipad 4 to come out next year.

But then the ipad 5 will be coming out soon so i will wait for that.

I dont know when I will actually buy one

i do, my iphone contract finishes in Jan and i need to upgrade to use it as a wireless hotspot

Cant all iphones act as a wireless hotspot?
If apple doesn't let your phone do it then surely you can install an app

good timing to wait for iPad 3

new iphone 5 and ipad 3, sounds like an expensive day :P

new iphone 5 and ipad 3, sounds like an expensive day :P

will be even more expensive when i switch from Virgin to Telstra… at least i can claim part of them on my tax… :)

Cant all iphones act as a wireless hotspot?

not an iPhone 3GS, only iphone 4…

        • not an iPhone 3GS, only iphone 4…

Surely there is an app avaliable which will let you do it?

There would be no reason that the 3G couldnt do it (Apart from apple wanting you to buy a new phone to have the added feature)

        • Surely there is an app avaliable which will let you do it?

only if you jailbreak, and i don't want to…

        • +1

only if you jailbreak, and i don't want to…

I guess that must mean apple doesn't want it in the app store so it is their way of making you buy a new phone.
Good for their profits, annoying for everyone else!

Not sure why you keep getting negged for answering my non iphone owner questions

          iPhone 3Gs can wireless hotspot.

I seriously thought this was witty sarcasm from Anthony then I realised that he and JV were actually engaging in coversation.

        My head hurts…

        • My initial comment was a stupid/sarcastic comment about the constant waiting which we can do always waiting for new technology but then jv said something which i asked a question about and he answered it.

I dont have an iphone so i didnt know that only the iphone 4 can do internet sharing over wifi (I thought they all could).
All i needed to to was install an app to my phone and i could share my 3g over wifi so i thought the same would apply for the iphone where apps are a big thing.

        • I wonder what the record is for the most positive / negative votes on a comment is.

  • Might want to switch the currency to USD it's US$399.92 so would definitely be cheaper than AU$399

    Add $15.95 delivery to title

    • Thanks. Done.

Interesting typo in the product "Overview":

"Please note that the Apple App Store is not currently supported in Australia through the device. This is expected to be resolved once Apple releases the iPad here."

Also, is this a new product? Wouldn't the warranty of a new IPad be through Apple and not MobiCity?

    • +1

MobiCity was probably selling the american edition before they were officially released by apple in Australia so that comment probably relates to that.

  • +5

I never seen the words "Brand New" on the page and I suspect they are refurb stock … a bit dodgy to me …

  • Considering that the 16G version is $250 more expensive than the 32G version.

    http://www.mobicity.com.au/apple-ipad-3g.html

This is definitely a very good price.

Cheapest way is to select the currency to British Pounds Sterling then pay with 28 degree credit card.
£245.42 + £9.81 shipping = AUD $385 SHIPPED! (SAVE you $29 more compared to selecting AUD)

  • hmmm pretty good when compared to the galaxy tabs that sometimes pop up for 300

    out of stock now

      That was quick.

Plus it does not play flash. I got one thinking that I could live without flash player but I was wrong.

      • The iphone/iPad can definitely play Flash.
        only Apply doesn't want to.

so if you jailbreak it, and with the right app, you can.

Still a really good price, I bought an iPad 1 16Gb 3G Refurb from Apple 2 weeks ago for $449.

  • shows up as out of stock…

  • did anyone order this one successfully?

  • anyone know where else to get an ipad 1 for cheap ez?

    • I have 1 64 gb wifi any one wants for 450?

      • How old is it? I bought mine when COTD for 555 delivered a while back

    • -1

Damo i think on the target online website an ipad 1 16gb $350 not sure if this is cheap

  • even iphone 4 is starting to have slow issues after latest update, seems each update for iphone or any product kills the cpu…that is why apple expects people to keep buying there new products. iphone 4 was really fast untill the 5th update which almost killed it.

    • +2

yep… each OS update, my 3GS gets more and more lag…

i reckon its a deliberate ploy by Apple to get you to upgrade every couple of years…

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence

" deliberately planning or designing a product with a limited useful life, so it will become obsolete or nonfunctional after a certain period of time. Planned obsolescence has potential benefits for a producer because to obtain continuing use of the product the consumer is under pressure to purchase again"

It's industry standard. Apple gets a lot of flak because their much-advertised support for older devices is mostly lip-service. The 3GS can technically run IOS4, but is rendered a little bit less usable every update.

        • There was a documentary about that on SBS a few weeks ago

It was called "The Light Bulb Conspiracy" as light bulbs were the starting point for planned obsolescence thanks to the Phoebus cartel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoebus_cartel)

You can watch it on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5DCwN28y8o

I think they would be one of the worst.
Telling people to buy new ipods as they will not supply new batteries (See the documentary)

Slowly introducing new features to the iphone
Back camera then front camera (new phone) then a camera flash (new phone), wifi internet sharing as jv explained to me above.

The slowdown of new operating systems on their older phones. No matter what update i have put on any of my phones the new operating system has never made my phone slower.

I can not think of any other company which does it as much or as well as apple.

jv can you put an older operating system on to get the speed back?

  • Bugga just missed it!

  • wonder how slow ipad1 might be with lastest update :D

    • +3

      it just stops…

      • -1

        lol

    • i've got ios5 beta running on my first gen ipad.. runs fine.

having said that - i'll probably update to the ipad 3 when it comes out though

Wow, who would have thought a few cheap tablets would cause such a fuss… Live and let live I say. The more competition the better for all of us regardless of what you like/use/drool over.

This is getting way out of topic. The deal is about an iPad, not touchpad/android/etc. You should be discussing the deal, not an 'Apple vs Android' debate. They are two separate products, with very large users base on both platforms.

Most of you debating the 'Android vs Apple' topic have been here long enough to know that this is not a suitable place to show your fanboism in deals where apple or android products are posted. I'm locking this thread.
