Thanks!!! I was literally trying to find discount codes for JB and Target because I wanted to pick one up today!

    • All good dude! Happy retro gaming!

  • +1

Thanks OP and Congrats on your first post. Picked one up. Pretty good price.

    • Price is comparative to the SNES Classic Mini which i picked up for $79 @ the Kmart clearance so i think it's also a good price. It was received better than the Playstation mini so may be the lowest it will go.

Good to hear you picked one up!

  • +1

Awesome - pulled the trigger on this.

    • Nice! Streets of Rage time?

      • +1

Don’t know what that is but sure! I’ll be smashing the sonic that’s for sure :)

        • You're in for a treat!

        • +8

Is "smashing the sonic" a euphemism ?

        • +1

          How old are you???

          SOR - classic

          • +3

@flashi007: You could be born after the release of Streets of Rage 2 and be old enough to be a qualified General Practitioner.

You're just old… same as me.

      • +3

        Streets of Rage time?

I see you too are a person of culture

        • It was the first game i ever played on the Mega Drive!

          • +1

@Villainous: Streets of rage (1) is one of my fave beat em up games of all time. One of my fav swag games of all time. I also liked light crusader gun star heroes and an old school rpg called jewel master. My dad was a super fan of desert and jungle strike. It brings back many great family memories.

            • +2

@maverickjohn: It must have been the Christmas of '91 when I got my NES with the Mario/Duckhunt combo. I walked in to my older brothers room and he got a Mega Drive with Streets of Rage. It's burnt into my memory.

Along with Turtles in Time, SOR2 and Alien Vs Predator are some of my fav all time beat em ups. Your dad's got great taste in games!

  • Do these have good emulation?
Saw an ign review. Got one

    • Nice one, enjoy!

  • -4

Just keep in mind this is a mini-version and comes pre-installed with 40 games. You can only play the installed games. There is no option to play other games.

    • +3

      Surely it'll get hacked

      • +4

        Its been hacked already!

      • It's been out for a while, hasn't it been already?

        • +1

@BlackCurrent Title says "mini" and product is sold as a "mini" console so not sure what you are trying to point out here?

Also you are wrong about only playing the pre installed games and that there is no option to play other games.

Project Lunar allows this as well as RetroArch and EmulationStation to emulate other consoles

          • @Villainous: I think you meant to respond to @BlackCurrent above

    • +8

I understand the sentiment here, but I wonder how many kids when these first came out had 40 carts.
The rich kids had, like a dozen.

      • +1

Dunno about rich, but 100% of mine came from cashies…. We couldn't afford them new and they would of been bought on laybuy… But I think I had maybe 10 or more…

      • +3

I used to rent them from the Video Shop.

        • @juzza87 Video Shop? What's that? ;)

      • I wasn’t rich but had heaps of games on this . It was our family time from my very young days. We used to get cousins visiting to play on our mega drive. Also had the mega CD with final fight and sonic CD. Was epic.

    • Title says "mini" and product is sold as a "mini" console so not sure what you are trying to point out here?

Also you are wrong about only playing the pre installed games and that there is no option to play other games.

Project Lunar allows this as well as RetroArch and EmulationStation to emulate other consoles

    • What, you think people might mistake this for an actual Mega Drive?

    • +7

Did you read the title or follow the link?

  • Just confirming neither SB nor CR do cashback on this because its in the video games category, right?

  • nice price but the Aasia/Japan release versions are better they come with genuine 6 button controllers and they are usb worh the extra money in my opinion

  • Can anyone comment on how the controllers are? I picked up the PS classic and while I really don't have a big issue with all the stuff people complained about online, like PAL support and blah blah, my main issue is that at least one of my controllers when I press down if I hit down at a slight angle it will go sideways. Makes it very frustrating to plan Super Puzzle Fighter 2, end up putting blocks at the edge of the playing area by accident and ruins the entire game. On a side note, who is warranting the PSOne Classic in Australia?

    • +1

      Different Manufacturers

    • +2

The controllers are pretty much the same as the original megadrive ones from back in the day. I have had mine for a few months now and never noticed any issues with either one.

    • +1

You have no problem with playing tekken 3 in slow mo?

      • All mine are hacked, so I made sure to play tekken 3 in ntsc mode. Yeah it makes a difference much better.

  • +1

    Bought, thanks for the post.

  • +1

Thanks op! Was going to buy at $99 so you just saved me $21.

    • You're welcome!

  • +1

    Great deal thanks for that.

    Cheers

    • You're welcome!

  • +1

Thanks OP, have been waiting for this to be discounted for ever.

    • You're welcome!

  • So what do I do with all my cartridges :(

    • Those old things? Just pass them this way ;)

    • prices are high for certain games + some are rare now.

      • ehhh but surely they could just make a version that actually takes the old cartridges as well…. sucks :(

  • +1

Great price and would've bought one but my original Megadrive 2 is still working and I have a number of games in their original cases.

  • I still have an Amazon $20 voucher which expires tomorrow but it has a min $79 spend. Can someone suggest something I can add to my cart for $1 to make at $79?

  • Thanks, only 3 left now :)

  • Has anyone found longevity in retro gaming? We have a Raspberry Pi with Recalbox and it was good for a short while, but ended up going back to the current gen for (arguably) a better gaming experience with modern titles.

    • Got a 4 player arcade machine with a zillion games on it. I would rather play TMNT Turtles in Time, The Simpsons, Double Dragon, R-Type, Bad Dudes/Dragon Ninja, Wonderboy, Shinobi etc… than any modern game.

    • +1

You'd ve right that most games haven't aged well, but there are definite classics that are still fun to play, its not just nostalgia as my son really enjoys playing some of them with me. It really depends.

On the Mega-Drive I'd argue that Streets of Rage 2 still hasn't been beaten as the best Beat 'em up ever made. I'd also state that Sonic hasn't aged as well as Supet Mario Bros.

      • +1

They're still making 2D Sonic games people love, with the same sprites and everything. Not me mind you, I don't get the appeal. But Sonic Mania got really reviews etc. Meanwhile Super Mario U was a bit of a flop by Nintendo standards

        • Yeah, Sonic Mania was a bit of fun but when 4 of us are on Super Mario Bros U we were having a real good time.

Maybe its me then, I find watching Sonic move at fast speeds and not taking in the map a bit dull while the increasing challenges and level design of Mario is more interesting. I grew up with Sega and prefer many Sega games over Nintendo, just not Sonic.

  • Back up to $119 now :(

  • +1

Showing $119.95 @Amazon for me just now.
Now do I really want to deal with HN?

    • I won't after my first purchase with them for $3 the division likely cancelled. Purchased this morning still no confirmation to pick up

  • +1

No 6 button controllers? Damn. Need that for Super Street Fighter II and Mortal Combat 3!

    • +1

Is Mortal Combat 3 the one with Skorpion, Sonyah and Raydun in it?

      • +3

        God damn autocorrect!

Yes! Don't forget Subpar Zero and Morning Wolf.

      • +1

No Skorpion or Raydun, this one has Sectar, Cyrix, Sheiva, Kazoo and Monaro as a boss.

    • you can buy the 6 button controllers separately. im planning on doing so.

    • Already in description

  • -2

I'll wait hopefully this drops to under $60 within the next month to inspire sales for CV19 lockdown 😉

    • +1

$39 is better like the PS Classic.

      • +3

PS Classic was received very poorly and price dropped accordingly.

Sega did a very good job with this and has been received as well as the NES/SNES which dropped to it's lowest of $59/$79 respectively (NES @ $59 due to need to buy second controller).

I would say this is as low as it's going to get but hey, you never know.

        • You never know. We might see this on AP day or BFS.

      • PS classic is a huge flop, if it ever goes to $20. I'll buy it just to collect

    • You don't seem to understand supply and demand?

      • +1

No I don't, you tell me about it genius

  • -3

    Far too expensive for this.

  • No more stock at Amazon

  • -3

Good price, but nothing beats RetroPie on a RPi.

  • +2

Just ordered directly with Harvey Norman (had to grit my teeth) - stock still available at some stores. Thanks O.P.!

  • +1

Bought one not long ago for $99 from Target. This is an awesome price.

    • How would you rate it?

  • Moore Park, Broadway & Auburn (NSW) still showing as being in stock for C&C.

  • +1

I don’t understand why it says out of stock..? Harvey Norman still has it for $78 and in stock https://www.harveynorman.com.au/sega-mega-drive-mini-game-co…
