Just received the JB HiFi catalogue for April 2 to 15. Unfortunately I can’t find an online link for the catalogue (see link below for photos of the catalogue)

Half price Google Home Max ($198) at JB HiFi starting this Thursday April 2, until Wednesday April 15. Enjoy.

Edit: given the current situation, try to get it delivered if possible ($9.95 or so), otherwise remember social distancing, and most importantly, look after yourself, your loved ones and be kind to others. Stay safe!

will buy if i can score a job in 2 days :'(

    • why 2 days?

      • +2

waiting for a interview, most of the places they are halting recruitment. making me more angry :(

        • What sort of work are you looking for?

            • @hopper: nice a high pay job

              • +1

@Herre: I guess most jobs are well paid here, right from electricians to plumbers.

            • +4

              @hopper: Sorry mate…I can't help on that front. :-(

Suggestion: You might want to share (if you're comfortable doing so) some more specifics about the type of IT work you're seeking and the location/s. You never know who is on these - and other - forums. You can create opportunities for yourself if you can be mindful.

I'm on the hunt for data wranglers, data warehousing BAs, and data science peeps. No halt to recruitment activities here. Just switching interviews to Skype until further notice.

              • +2

@[Deactivated]: Thx Mate, I'm almost confirmed for a role, which is paused now. hoping to sort things soon.

                • @hopper: Nice! All the best for the new gig,

              • @[Deactivated]: So how are things going now if a candidate is selected? does he need to physically come to office or is a laptop dispatched via post(like in USA currently) due to WFH restrictions? Thanks. I am in the same boat as hopper.

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: My employer is an essential service meaning I can go into the office to meet someone if necessary (carrying proof of employment documentation just in case) and sort out on-boarding.

But I'm currently working from home as much as I can and, if required, can easily courier documents, computer hardware etc to a new starter if required.

              • @[Deactivated]: If you don't mind me asking what are the requirements criteria you looking for? How much experience? Type of work? How many hours?

                • @Elanzer: Mix of roles.

But core skills/experience in text preprocessing and classification algorithms; natural language processing; programming machine algorithms (C++, Java and Delphi); data mining (incl with RapidMiner, R and matlab); Hadoop and Teradata.

Drop into your local Woolworths or Coles. They are hiring 20,000+

      • I thought these supermarkets were done solely online ?

      • Telstra also hiring

      • For what positions, I don't see any jobs available on the GC yet

        • Try Aldi, Coles and Woolworths. These companies are exposed to significant risk that their current pool of employees will be impacted significantly by the requirement to self-isolate or the need/preference to stay at home to care for children.

I'd suggest applying online, but some stores are also accepting walk-in interviews.

          • -1

@mathew42: Massive incentive to hire new people when they get $1500 from govt every 2 weeks for existing workers. D'oh.

I'm sure they will be looking for some newbies but not scrambling like some suggest.

            • @Top G:

but not scrambling like some suggest

I suggest asking your local store manager if they are hiring and if the normal hiring process has been expedited.

            • +11

@Top G: That’s only if the business can prove their turnover has reduced by 30% if turnover is less than 1bil, if over they need to see a drop of 50%. Woolies and Coles turnover has increase significantly due to this crisis, they’re not getting the job keeper payments from the gov.

              • -1

@sghetti: True, when will the turnover slow down though, everybody gotta use what they stockpiled eventually. I'm sure delivery drivers will be in net demand

                • +3

@Top G: With everyone working from home, grocery stores are naturally going to have a larger market share compared to takeaway, as people will be stocking their pantries with a lot more snacks and groceries for dinner means rather than going to their usual cafes near workplaces or restaurants for dinner.

I strongly believe that their turnover will remain higher than normal, maybe not so much as the current panic buying that’s going on though.

      • And if your in melb and pick the right store it comes with corona

      • isn't it more risky working in those places, I have limited saving but currently living with my relatives atm, so they are scared of me going to public places which might attack their family.

    • +1

Sorry to hear that Hopper… All the best.

    • +3

so you will buy something without saving… LOL this is why people have no money

  • +28

oooooooooooooooooh so close… thought this was a nest hub max!

    • +1

      Dang, me too!

      • yeahhh wanted one too

    • I was already thinking what do I do with another set of Nest Hub Max then I saw your post… lol

    • Lenovo Smart Display is $229. I'd wait for OfficeWorks to price match and use the free delivery.

      Nest Hub Max is $348.
      https://imgur.com/a/YJaYav6

    • I bought one Nest Hub Max with the rewards from pixel 4xl ( that we're about to expire, plus some additional on credit) and loving it so far.

      • +3

        Could you explain a bit?

        • Bought Google Pixel 4 XL, and got approx AUD142.9 back with Google one membership. Also got AUD 150 from Google directly as the offer at that time. So, had $292.9 about to expire. Added the balance using credit card (Paid the full price) to get Nest Hub Max.

    • +1

What are the main benefits of the nest hub?

    • Personally I reckon you're FAR better off with a Home Max (WAAAAAAY better speaker) plus tablet. Tablet can do so much more. And at this price you could get both for the same price as a Nest Hub Max.

  • According to Scott you have one for 6 months. $1500 a fortnight. Hope you do 't live in Syd though. Half of that to rent at least.

      • +14

So what's funny about the suggestion of it being half of $750/wk?

      • Think you might want to check your sums there tiger

      • +4

Enjoy being put on a blacklist if you do that…

        • Can you be put on blacklist? I reckon state governments will ban it during this period

      • +1

You have some dark humour sir, here is an upvote.

      • +5

Wait for the landlord not to be able to keep up loan payments and you can have the bank kick you out instead.

        • -5

tell your landlord to get mortgage holiday

          • +3

@Dotherightthing: Mortgage holidays have a sting in the tail.

"[2] Interest Capitalisation is the addition of unpaid interest to the outstanding loan balance. The outstanding loan balance increases when payments are postponed during periods of deferment or forbearance and unpaid interest is capitalised."

Like all the money being handed out, at some point the books will need to be balanced.

          • +1

@Dotherightthing: mortgage holiday doesn't mean landlord don't have to pay. It means you don't have to pay now. whatever you need to pay, is still accumulated, and you will need to pay after 6 months, plus the interest on the deferred payments.

            • @jerrysfang: Yeah, LL still have to pay, just pay later…

Interest on interest is a killer, PS.

Wonder if those tenants who get a rent holiday have to pay the balance of their rent they missed after they get a job again?

              • -1

@geoffs87: you dont have to pay the principal and only the interest that get accumulated, so if you have an offset acc, you can technically save that principal for next 6 month and put it in your offset acc

                • @Dotherightthing: Yeah correct,

However if you’re not receiving rent - not sure how you’ll be saving the principal - especially if you or your partner have lost your job also!

My wife is on 12 months maternity leave, so we’re doing single salary, 3 mouths, our PPOR mortgage and the IP mortgage…

6 month’s Interest on our IP alone is about $20k… that will all be compounded if we defer!

Now luckily, we have enough cash to ride a storm for a year or two… BUT without the IP income it will make things tricky and erode our savings!

  • +7

These are really good, sound quality for the price is probably unmatched.

    • +1

      Agree

But should I get one more …hmmm

  • any decent mobile deals in the rest of the catalogue?

    • +1

      Nothing of note IMO

  • +4

Can you post the whole catalogue please? :D

  • Any Nintendo Switch Lite deals

  • prices will be dropping further from here on especially with stores closing down.

    • JB, I guess, will be doing pick up only soon.

  • +3

    nice price,

you can set two up as a stereo pair as well

  • Hoping Amazon price match it.

    • +8

You do realise they don't sell Google Home products as its their competition.

      • I'm hoping sky was joking

  • +1

Homepod $298 vs home max $198
    What should I buy?????!

    • +10

Home max has better sound, better bass, better ai results, works with more apps, works with Android and apple

      • +7

        And has Bluetooth

    • +3

      homepod? lol

    • +2

Homemax - better looking, better sound, better assistant. Oh, and its cheaper. The homepod is a $149 product.

    • Home max for sure. Plays nicely with everything and sounds great.

  • +2

Nice, something to buy with my jobkeeper allowance.

    • +4

Excellent. That's what it's for, to buy stuff.

      • Yeah, to support local businesses.

  • +2

    Will this be available online?

  • +1

I bet this is a product wide discount/promotion run by Google and will be available across all the stores.

  • +4

After all the quarantine I was saving too much money. This will mitigate my non-spending xd

  • Can this be used as TV soundbar?

    • yes, use 3.5mm jack

    • +2

Yes they rolled out an update a couple of years ago that reduced aux latency from 550 to 39 milliseconds which makes it usable as a soundbar.

I've been doing so since then and it's worked great.

    • Woohoo..

I was about to buy a soundbar.

Kill two birds with one stone.

  • Half price will be so attractive! Hope they will have the Home Hub Max half price too

  • +39

Save your money. After 12 years of central banks creating huge bubbles in economies, the pain ahead will be long.

Even when businesses return to normality, the huge debt needs to be repaid. This means higher taxes & plenty of so called short term levies.

Property market will take a hit too. Add in a large portion of mortgages with capitalised interest payments due to 6 month freeze.

Good time to start practicing restraint and decide if you can do without these materialistic things

    • +23

      But I want one :(

    • +3

The alternative option to escape debt is hyper-inflation. That means buy now because tomorrow it will cost twice as much, especially when the currency hedges by importers expire and prices are adjusted for the devaluation in the AU$.

Note I am not a financial advisor and in the current environment a dart board with intoxicated players are likely to be a more accurate predictor of the future.
