      Normally you'd be right, but in the current climate $5 for two masks, posted to you, with no order necessary, is a very generous offer.

      Given the limited stock if it was me I'd be reserving them for customers.

      I don't know about you but our business has been searching high and low for masks to provide to technicians and we have come up empty handed. I guarantee you $5 is a bargain at the moment. $5 for time, packaging and actual postage is totally reasonable.

      I think the main shortage is N95 masks.

        In NSW, the government is asking for Australian based manufacturers with the ability to set up production of a range of masks including P2, N95 & surgical.

          p2/n95 are very hard to mass manufacture because of the difficulty in sourcing a key material - melt-blown polypropylene filter material.

      These aren't really high medical grade. If you spend enough time in the room of an infected person, you will catch the bug, even while wearing these.

      What they will help with though, is anyone who does a lot of gardening work. It will stop them from breathing dust and particles kicked up by mowers or whipper snippers, that will damage the lung tissue and make that person more prone to being infected. Normally if you were doing that sort of work you'd wear a paper mask, but given that even those are sold out, thats not really an option atm.

      They wont accept them if been in contact with unknown people. (non medical)

      They threw out items recovered that were stolen from a hospital recently for this reason.

      A nice thought, but wont happen.

    i feel sorry for op, he just want to do something nice to the community by giving out free masks, if u don't like the shipping cost you could just go pick it up for free!

    if u aren't in a position to get 'pick up', then bad luck for u! lots of bargains posted here ar localised, u can't say its not "free" just becoz u won't be able to go pick it up!!

    ar they charging too much for the shipping ? ya if u considering just "a small envelope with a $1 stamp"，
    but not all companies doing it that way, if u got a Parcel Pickup Service, it started from $3.20.

    anyway, my point is they just want to do something nice and it shouldn't be criticized.

      they still help. they discourage face touching and they catch spit droplets and sneezes from infected people - many of whom are walking around without symptoms unknowingly infecting other people. Stopping infected people from spreading the disease is just as useful as stopping uninfected from getting it.

        Correct. But the marketing spiel says the below, implying that it will aid a healthy person from being infected, which is absolutely misleading.

        Remember that there are other effective ways besides using face masks to prevent becoming ill with COVID-19.

    Misleading as can be. As others have said there is no protection from COVID-19 with these mask. These are standard surgical mask and are design for body fluid splatter in the lab or during surgery. They cannot filter out any virus particles. Shocking business decision to promote these on the basics they are a form of protection

    This post is completely inaccurate and down right dangerous with miss information by implying these masks can prevent covid19 and should be removed immediately.

    Some information for those that are not aware:
    Any mask marketed as a standard surgical or theatre mask will provide zero protection against any viral outbreak, they are only used for fluid resistance so spit and blood etc does not enter you mouth or nose.
    The virus can penetrate the material surgical masks are made from.

    The only mask that will provide a high level of protection is a N95 or P2 mask.
    But what everyone needs to made aware of is that a N95 mask will not provide full protection unless you are also wearing eye protection.

    If an infected person coughs of sneezes in your general direction the virus can be contracted by their dropplets getting in your eyes, as well as cuts, open wounds and your ears.

    Unless you are contagious wearing a mask could be causing more problems as you are breathing back in your own germs, so if you have a sniffle or a cold you will make yourself more sick.

    I believe the OP is trying to do good a good thing but without correct medical knowledge it will only cause further confusion throughout the community
