The puns are strong with this one…

    • Not me!

I bought 12 boxes of Bran cereal for potential lockdowns!

      Ive never pooped so much!

      • The more bran you eat the more tp you’ll need

        • I have far too much.
And not because of hoarding, but because 10 years ago when i first moved out, mum bought me a 24 pack and put it in the cupboard without telling me….

This might be a good price for a WD 4TB portable drive, but 4TB portable drives have been cheaper.

  • How reliable are these for backing up old photos and using for external storage (movies, etc.)?

    • +3

a single drive is never a reliable backup

      • That's right, apart from covid never asked about that : )

    • +3

Just as reliable as other disks, apart from WD disks are soldered to the case, so if eg. the usb connector breaks, you won't be able to move the perfectly fine disk itself to another case. At least it's not as easy as with other brands.

Because of that I prefer other brands.

      • Thanks for the explanation

    • Always back up on 2 different ones

    • If its a backup; perfectly fine.

Remember, a backup implies 2 copies.

  • JBHifi got shuckable 4TB seagate for $139, any different?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/seagate-expansion-portabl…

WD one might be thinner right?

    • Great, thank you!

Difference: Seagate is shuckable and cheaper.

edit: Seagate is 2.1 cm, WD is 1.5 cm

        Seagate has higher failure rate

        • +1

I could see source of that. (Genuine request)

          • +1

            @pizzaguy: Its MASSIVELY higher.

            Source is backblaze.
Jump into their HDD stats database and look as you wish, you can sort by time between failure, writes, date installed, etc etc.

            Basically, hgst>wd>seagate

Seagate have been woeful for Years!

  • not gonna neg, but hardy a good deal….

  • This is like the every day price on this.
