560

We are an Australian owned businesses (MYOB and Xero are foreign owned) located in Brighton, Melbourne and we are locked down and going through this crisis just like you are. We all have an obligation to do whatever we can to help each other, and that's what this offer is all about. Haha, good pick up. It was an honest mistake. A bit embarrassing for a company that sells accounting software.

  • How does this compare to QBO and Xero in terms of features and customisation, and is it designed for use as Tradesman POS?

I have used both so I know their limitations.

Can I export all data if I decide to move to another program?

    • Hi Wayne, it doesn't support POS out of the box. Also, you can export all transactions into CSV files, but that won't import into any other product. It does nevertheless mean you have your own copy of the data should you stop your subscription. We're also considering a hibernation fee where you can keep you account in read-only mode for a low fee per year, something like $10 per year.

      • IT guy / sole trader here. I'm not in a position where I'd look at switching, I currently use quickbooks online.

However one thing I hate in all these cloud providers is a lack of any way to perform an automated backup of user data.

If I could just pull a file once a month, in an automated secure fashion that would make a world of difference to me.

        Just food for thought.

    • That's a shame. I was very bitter when I found out a year into my QBO subscription that I could export everything except invoice data. Kind of important.

Any plans to integrate compatible export in the future - perhaps QBO or MYOB files?

Does Sunday have plugins or allow for plugins like POS apps, such as what Xero offers?

      • It's unlikely we'll ship compatible files unless myob and xero set the standard and do the same. If we can have easy interchange between all providers, then it's a level playing field. No one wants to go first. Also, we don't have resources to spare just now.

Xero is better if you need integrations. I can't see us going down the path of tighter integration with POS unless we really go after the retail market, which hasn't been prioritised.

        • This here is the reason why I despise all the cloud accounting software available. It's like they think they own our data or something. This isn't an attack on you personally OP but I actually think all cloud software (not just accounting) should be legally required to provide a complete data export at any time. It's actually unacceptable and just because "everyone else does it" isn't much of an excuse.

  • Can accountants be given remote access?

    • Yes, it is multi-user and accountants definitely get their own login credentials

      • +1

Thank you and receipt bank access or your own version? Just emailed before for the offer.

  • +1

Thanks everyone for your support. Looking forward to working with each of you. We've reached our offer limit so now closing this offer.

  • Do you guys offer Mukti currency for purchases and sales?

    • Sorry, no.

  • Really sorry I missed this deal. I was looking for something exactly like this but the cost is not something I can afford. Anything you can do?

  • +8

For those who missed out: Wave is always free (https://www.waveapps.com/)

    • How does this compare to something like Xero if you've used either?

      • +3

Yes, I used both. You should really open an account and compare them yourself as it depends on your needs.

Note that Wave is a simpler system and does not do everything Xero does (such as payrolls). However, in my opinion it is on par or better than Xero for the functionality it supports. I closed my Xero account and use Wave for my sole trading business.

    • Does wave support bank integration? I hear that that is a major time saver with Xero.

      • Last time I used it, admittedly a couple of years back now it did have bank feeds and mostly worked with my bankwest business account until it suddenly stopped syncing for ages. But the major drawback is they needed my 2FA every time to download the bank feed.

Xero actually has a direct relationship with banks so the feeds happening completely automatically and don't break but is it worth the extra cost? Depends on your business / how much time you have I guess.

    • Does Wave support Single Touch Payroll?

So I have used several accounting systems over the years for various businesses I have been involved in and here's my experience:

    • MYOB Premier: expensive, buggy, painful
    • Xero: has all the features I've ever needed, clunky interface, expensive
    • MYOB essentials: not too bad, expensive so may as well use Xero
    • Waveapps: good that it's free, the inteface is pretty good but it lacks speed and experienced some seriously annoying bugs with bank feeds and PayPal integration when I used it.

After all the above having serious drawbacks I was finally glad to have found manager.io which I now use for most of my businesses. The desktop edition is free, the server edition is only 390USD once off (but you can trial it for free indefinitely) and it's worth every penny. The interface is incredibly sensible and bulk entry is a dream and it does everything I need of it perfectly with really good backups, the only drawback I would say is the lack of bank feeds like Xero, but being a dev myself I've just written something to automate it. Can do STP Payroll and GST worksheets.

    • +3

Second this. Tried everything and now use manager. It's a brilliant, full featured system. I don't need/like having my data accessible to most companies, so I quite like the desktop version. The bank feed is really the only issue. Will PM you to see what you've built for that🙂

Worth mentioning that it has very good exports of just about any part of it, in case you want to take your data anywhere.

      • +3

It's a shame more people don't know about it. I think I found out about it via Ozbargain actually, aussie devs I believe. Before I found out about it I was genuinely considering developing accounting software for my businesses and then potentially reselling it as a product but when I found manager they pretty much did it exactly the way I would have done it, it's like the creators of manager were inside my brain it was uncanny.

      • just clarifying my comment as it's an unintentional troll: i havent tried Sunday so can't say Manager is better or worse. both are aussie devs and at $10pm, if its vaguely full featured, is an absolute bargain to start with so $1 is definitely worth a shot if you're looking. I actually tried 4 in parallel when i started, using the free trial periods.

    • Wierd website name may cause hibergibeees for some (including me)…

      • +1

The story behind the name is that most business owners spend their Sunday doing the books. We want to get them organised and give Sundays back to spend time with the people they love. It made sense before the lock down!

        • Interesting! Who knows maybe it will catch on.

My hang up was about the lack of .com. Not necessarily Sunday.

    • Can you integrate/ transfer files from MYOB, QB, Xero etc?

      • +1

I'm not sure to be honest, we've only ever gone from wave to manager and I can't even remember how easy that was as it was a couple of years back. One of my businesses still uses Xero and probably will continue to do so.

They have a really good forum https://forum.manager.io/ with lots of questions like this answered though.

      • +1

Sorry, you can't do that. None of the accounting software providers want easy transfer of data because it promotes churn, which SaaS business models need to manage carefully because payments are not front loaded, so it's important customers stick around for 3 years at least

    • What happens when the data file gets corrupted? Will I lose my data?

      • For the desktop version you can do a whole backup within a few seconds and save it elsewhere

We use the server version which we run on our own dedicated server (which runs lots of other applications we use) and have automated backups

They have a cloud version too but that's just the same as the server version hosted by them but it's pretty expensive.

    • Does the Manager.io support single touch payrolls? I am a sole trader with only 1 employee.
      Thanks
      regards

  • Has anyone had experience with payroller for STP? It gets great reviews on Google and is free.

    • I’ve used it. It works well. For $1 though I’d sooner use a full suite of software

  • Sorry op. Couldn’t see on the website but is bank feeds included ??

    • Sorry, no bank feeds. How many transactions do you process each month?

  • +3

Funny how you've dropped the price down to $1 a month and you're still getting grilled about it :) Even at $10 a month it still sounds like a good deal.

Good on you guys (I'm actually a developer at Sage) - best of luck.

      • ok then.. done. thanks

  • Crazy deal if this is legit. Look at how much Xero costs.

What's with these wierd website names? Is this a millenial thing along with instagram etc? ;)

    • +1

Totally legit. Our name is kinda strange, the story behind the name is that most business owners spend their Sunday doing the books. We want to get them organised and give Sundays back to spend time with the people they love. It made sense before the lock down!

  • +1

I signed up for a trial yesterday and it is intriguing and must admit you do appear to offer more support, just the GUI is alot less appealing. Will keep it on my follow up list.

I'm a partner of a firm >8000 clients 60% are on Xero minimum and I think it is too pricey for most and the partner plans are very limited.

    Goodluck.

    • Thanks for the feedback. It's really valuable for other readers to hear an accountant's opinion. If you want to try it in future, let me know.
