  • Just beat me to it ;)

not only did he beat me to posting this you also beat me to commenting that

      • he

I don't know, I feel like Gracey might be female

  • +7

    New sign ups only.

  • +2

what if you already have eBay plus?

    • +3

      Not a new sign-up then.

    • +34

You get a pat on the back and two thumbs up. Existing members get nothing, essentially.

      • +17

Lucky I got the current membership for $1. Time to lookout for next $1 deal cause eBay Plus isn't worth more than that.

        • +2

Free delivery for a year is worth more than $1. I know it's on a limited range of products, but even so, I've had plenty of eBay Plus free deliveries in the past year.

          • +2

@DealhunterMelbourne: Which stores out of curiosity? I had it for one of the promos as well but found zero use for it/none of the tech stores etc. I looked at offered it.

            • @DingoBilly: Zero? c'mon really? what item were you looking for specifically? I'm sure there are eBayPlus sellers for that item. all my eBay purchases since eBayPlus has been a thing has been from Plus sellers…literally everything

          • +1

@DealhunterMelbourne: Most of the times those stores also sell for less on other channel, it's usually only those cheap deal from Shopping Express/Apus etc. for example 2 SD Card for $16. It's unlike Amazon free delivery where I can buy a box of tissues for $2 delivered to my house.

          • +3

@DealhunterMelbourne: But did those items you purchased have free delivery anyways???

          • +2

@DealhunterMelbourne: I haven't used ebay plus in 6 months. EBay is barely with shopping on.

If I was to build a pc it might be. But it's a huge ymmv.

I'm not paying more than $5 unless I have something I'm going to purchase there and then.

          • +2

@DealhunterMelbourne: Most or all of the item I purchased last year had free delivery already without plus too.
Any seller specific ebay plus items either will be expensive compared to rest of ebay or expensive compared to other online retaliers like amazon.

      • +2

You get to continue to take advantage of the illustration you are getting a better deal than those that aren’t Plus members. Sometimes you also get the chance to purchase airpods at $99 if you have the reaction time of a hummingbird on crack. Also, price jacking is still valid with a Plus membership.

    • Replaced with "eBay Plus members can also look forward to new benefits, including Free Express Delivery in metro areas on millions of eBay Plus items, launching soon.'

      • +6

Would have been nice if they actually offered something of value when cancelling Flybuys.

  • +9

Sadly doesn't work if you've done a free 30 day trial on that account.

    • +1

Same here :( I had a 3 month trial sometime last year, so it wants $49 up front. Pass.

    • Found out the same thing. Kind of bs…

  • +1

targeted to eBay members who had their eBay account linked to their Flybuys account prior to 1 April 2020 and:

    • I have had that but still ask for $49

  • +8

My email is different…. didn't mention free ebay plus at all

We are writing to let you know about upcoming changes that will affect the way you use flybuys on eBay.

Our partnership with flybuys will come to an end on Wed, 6 May 2020. From then, you will no longer be able to collect flybuys points on your eBay purchases or redeem your flybuys points for eBay vouchers. You will not lose any flybuys points you have collected with eBay to date.

We are excited to continue bringing you savings through eBay Plus. Remember, you get free delivery and returns on millions of Plus items, exclusive sales throughout the year, monthly discounts and access to limited time shopping events.

    • +4

Cuz you are an existing Plus member (of have been one in the past).

  • +1

Out of curiosity does anyone know why? Big W and Coles have stopped processing orders, Catch is nowhere to seen, and now flybuys points is leaving ebay.

    • +1

      They're building a rocket

    • I purchased an item from Catch in late March and it is arriving today.

    • +2

I don't know why, but Coles has also removed the 4% off gift cards from RACQ Rewards recently as well. I have been a loyal Coles customer for years but now have moved to Woolworths because I can get 5% off gift cards from them.

      • +2

Same happened to Suncorp Benefits as well :-(
Looks like RACQ Rewards isn't updated on Discounted eGift Cards

      • +1

AGL has also removed Coles. Sunsuper still does them through their rewards scheme though at 5% off but with credit card processing fee of 1% (calculated on the net value so a little over 4% off)

Edit: Sorry just checked and gone from redeemyourgiftcard too. I'd bought one around 2 weeks ago which was a few days after they disappeared from AGL and RACQ.

        • +2

Just checked, AGL still sells Coles egiftcard at 5% discount. Use BPay to avoid credit card fee

    • ebay don't want to pay flybuys for the points any more. Just a cost saving measure as they evidently believe it's not worth the extra return. Similar to how they cut off some cashback sites in the past year.

  • +33

It doesn't make sense, existing plus member gets affected by this flybuys partnership termination the same way as non-plus members yet they don't get any compensation in return.

    • +8

      They already took our money

      • +5

And they are giving it free to new sign ups… they are not getting their money either.

If they just market it as new sign promotion (i.e. 1 yr trial), then I understand. But they market it as a way to compensate for users who have linked their flybuy account and their partnership is ending, then it impacts everyone the same way.

        • +1

Agree, but eBay don't care about us :)

          • @frogduck: I'll seriously consider amazon prime over ebay plus when my current membership ends.

            • +8

@muddrex: Can confirm that Amazon prime is great! I have both and use prime much more.

            • +2

@muddrex: I use Prime heaps, and Prime Video isn't half bad at all. It occasionally gets very recent movies.
I got eBay plus for $1. I used it once so far, in 4 months. It's just not worthwhile, as many eligible items tend to cost more than elsewhere. And if you're in WA, eBay items sent as parcel post (which is >90% of them) take over a week to arrive, whereas Amazon Prime orders take 2 days. I haven't been buying much from eBay at all since Amazon AU launched.

              • @Make it so:

It occasionally gets very recent movies.

Noticed recently it has been adding quite a decent amount of the same recent movies as Foxtel Movies does which based on the number I actually watch, I ended removing movies from Foxtel.

            • +1

@muddrex: I had Amazon Prime on their trial, and they automatically subscribed me too Amazon Video.
Luckily i found out and unsubbed from Video, so they wouldnt charge me monthly.

Instead, they used the Prime credit card details without telling me and charged me instead.

Told them in chat and via email, but they continued to charge me.

At the end of the day, i had to cancel my credit card to stop them from charging me.

              So, reconsider before joining Prime

              • +4

@mhs m0nk3y: Uhm, Prime Video comes free if you have Prime. Can you even have one without the other? I did not know that.

                • @Make it so: Eitherway, I cancelled Prime as I wasn't using it, and hence Video should hav been cancelled too. But they decided to keep charging me (every charger my card was "Amazon Video"

              • @mhs m0nk3y: Amazon support is one of best and cancel or refund if any errors.

        • Wrong -> In a year's time when people have forgotten what the subscription is about they'll make their money back.

Since eBay Plus doesn't really offer much in the first place, any money is free money to them.

    • +1

the usual thing. loyalty counts for nothing.

    • +5

This. Makes no sense at all. Plus members are affected just as much. Screw ebay.

  • Not eligible for the current Plus members

    • Nor if you have previously used it or the trial sadly

  • +13

What a joke, I'm gonna renew prime and not ebay plus

    • +9

      I'm thinking the same thing…

Whoever is their marketing person should be fired.

    • +6

Yep - same. Have cancelled mine so it wont renew - and ignored the 'get a $30 voucher if you stay and renew' offer. I am getting minimal benefit from membership - was an early member so no 'free' google mini, I don't get the monthly coupons, I got one bonus voucher that I found impossible to find 'eligible items' to use it on, their special 'plus member only' sales are a lottery, the free shipping thing basically means the price is bumped up to cover it, the sales where plus members get an extra discount again just means the final price is bumped up to cover it, and now the minor benefit of flybuys points is gone. On top of all that, I have had more luck getting a refund for non-shipped items from Aliexpress than from eBay.

More and more I am buying things from Amazon, that in the past I would have bought via eBay.

    • because at this point in time Prime offers so much more than eBay Plus…people are fighting this Prime fight even though its less than half of what it is in America imo.

      • Quality over quantity

If you want the cheap junk on ebay, you don't need plus.
Not to mention the "quality" stuff are either jacked or not easily attainable (airpods anyone?)

Either way, what's the point of paying for plus when eBay is just dishing it out for free randomly anyway?

    • I am a prime member for quite some time and agree that it provides much much more value include prime video.

    • Pretty much. At least with Prime you get free music, Prime Video, Twitch Prime, etc. eBay, losing the battle hard.

  • +3

Does anyone know if you can "cancel" the plus subscription but keep using it until the trial period runs out?

I know this is the case on many other sites (spotify, for example)…

    • +2

      Yep, can confirm.

      • cheers!

  • +3

Why is it that whenever I see the ebay brand now I picture Oprah saying "You get a pricejack, you get a pricejack, everybody gets a pricejack!!!"

    • I know, it's really odd. eBay is a staple in the UK (and I presume US), used it extensively to buy/sell for years but absolute garbage here. Amazon Prime is definitely more worthwhile and getting better and better since it started.

  • +1

I wasn't a member. I tried signing up. It still defaults to 1 month free trial.
    FYI for those wondering…

    • did you have flybuys linked to ebay prior to 1st April?

  • +4

TBH, I dont see any benefit of eBay plus other than the those special discount sold out within 5s (or beat by the bot)
    eg. $99 airpod

Otherwise, Amazon Prime is far more usable

  • +1

Yeah, free membership to our favourite lottery program!

  • +2

Didn't get it here. Had my flybys linked, no active eBay Plus. Weird.

  • +1

What does eBay Plus actually do? I use ebay all the time and don't seem be missing out on much by not having the "plus" membership…

    • Not a lot. The negligible amount of extra flybuys points was the only consistent extra.

The other bonuses are situational. Sometimes there is a promo just for ebay plus users (e.g. a $5 free credit earlier this year), or free returns - if you ever return things anyway.

    • +1

You get a + sign, like @ in irc

  • +5

Yeah, I just cancelled. Flybuys is my main rewards program since I have a Coles card. Plus has essentially no value for me now. Prime is much better.

  • +1

Mine was different though - nothing about free 12 months eBay plus. Maybe because I'd already done a trial???

    EDIT

Wow you guys post fast. Need to refresh my screen more often. Forget what I said. Back in my box.

  • Yep got the email. Guess it's about time I finally activate eBay plus.

  • Surprised the partnership with FlyBuys/eBay is over already! It didn't last long! Wonder what happened…

    • +5

I have a feeling Coles is cutting ties with unnecessary third parties.

      No eBay linked Flybuys
No ability to purchase discounted vouchers by Suncorp Rewards.

      All within the past week.
      Maybe there are more

      • They dropped out of RACQ rewards too.

        • same company

  • time to open another account ?

  • WTF I just realised I have an active eBay Plus Membership from August 2019… I thought it had ended but apparently not haha

OzBargain has made my memory of buying deals really foggy.

  • I tried to cancel my membership and they offered a $30 voucher

    • +2

They refunded me in full. The Flybuys bonus was literally the only reason I had eBay Plus on that account so it's only fair.

      • did you go on chat?

        • Yes

  • +1

Wow, they really buried the lead in that e-mail. I stopped reading at "flybuys will to come to an end on Wed, 6 May 2020" and didn't even see the free eBay Plus.

  • -1

Anyone else thinking of redeeming their flybuys points on eBay vouchers before they cut ties??? Not sure what the expiry date will be

On the Flybuys on eBay T&C. Section 2.4 Expiry date: Vouchers will expire on the date as notified to you when you receive your voucher.

    • +1

I have heaps of points to redeem as eBay vouchers. The good thing is you can use those vouchers to pay for anl gift card :)

      • +1

I didn't realise that you can pay for gift cards with them! Thanks - will definitely do that!!!

  • Like eBay plus is even worth it.

  • For free yes. Otherwise no.

  • But what does eBay plus do? I usually find stuff that has free shipping anyway.

I got the offer. Is it just free shipping on posh goods and free returns? Or is there more?

  • +2

Thanks for reminder me to cancel ebay plus.

  • +2

eBay needs to get rid of eBay Plus it was a rort from the start, barely provides good value for anyone (except them of course) and needlessly segregates the sellers/items into ebay plus/non ebay plus, makes the rules on returns more confusing, etc.

  • Got the offer - still fail to see the attraction. Can I exchange it for a year of Prime membership?? :-)
Actually, does Amazon ever make Prime offers (other than the first month?)

  • +1

Yes I can't get either apparently as been a past 30day trial participate.

    • Same here….

  • No email at all for me - weird
