I just bought 2 of these for $240 ea.
Plex on them is awesome - especially if you have PlexPass and enable the experimental player.
I tried the experimental player and it was horrible for me. The playback framerate looks wrong.

I recently tried the Plex player on my in-law's Samsung Smart TV and it was buggy as hell compared to the one on my Apple TV.
I have a relatively new Samsung and Plex is perfect on it. Easily as good as on my iPad and on my Android TV box.
For that amount of money I would rather put it towards a HTPC type machine.
You can do whatever you want with it and you're not imprisoned within Apple's ecosystem.
You can also self-host and not give your data out to anyone.
Kodi and Plex are examples.
Infuse is just like Plex, except all the indexing of the files and decoding of the files happens in the Infuse app, meaning you can stream 4k video off even the slowest laptop in the world as long as the folder is network shared.

Get an iTunes account in each country and a VPN and this thing is a beast!!!

Vodafone TV right now can't play Apple TV.
Also with a gamepad such as the Xbox One Gamepad or Sony Dualsshock 4 gamepad linked to the Apple TV 4K through Bluetooth it can become a game console through the games you can download off the Apple store. Howbeit you're limited to the 32GB of storage on the device.

Umm it certainly can, using any Bluetooth controller.
I have both and honestly they both are great options. Apple TV has an interface like no other, it’s simply beautiful. It is a great extension to the Apple ecosystem. Vodafone tv is a great value box and it’s good to have this as an Android box at your disposal.
I personally use the Apple TV every time I get a chance. When I have to chromecast I prefer the Vodafone tv or my chromecast ultra.
You can’t go wrong with the Apple TV. Not to mention it’s great resale value.

No if you plug it into a PC/router and share it that will work.
With Infuse you just share the folder on the hard drive with the in built Windows/Mac network share. You can share from your router USB too if your router supports FTP over USB.
I own both Apple TV 4K and Nvidia Shield Pro 2019.
Key miss on Apple TV 4K is the lack of support for local Atmos playback. (You will get netflix atmos but Infuse cannot passthrough THD Atmos).
New Nvidia Shield 4K can do all but current price is crazy high.

I have old version nvidia shield with controller. The games are not available in Australia market that comes on shield. So there is no point buying a controller to play just android games, I mean it does not let you play nvidia GetForce Now.
@3zzy I use Infuse with mine and I'm pretty sure I only pay $14.49, for a year's subscription. It's played everything I've thrown at it so far, even my 4K full fat rips, with lossless audio.
Same here, 80GB 4k blu ray remuxes are no problem on infuse on my iPad Pro. Hoping the 4k apple TV will also play them no problem.
It does indeed play them, no problem at all. I don’t use the iPad app but my wife uses it to watch media center recorded TV.

just create a US (or whichever country you prefer) iTunes account and save it on the ATV and you are set. when you select the Itunes account, it will give you options to buy or rent from the country's store. I love this feature on ATV and the ease of it

is the 1 year free stackable? So I got 1 year free from a purchase of an ipad. Now I don't think i want an apple tv. If the apple tv gives one more year's worth of apple tv, then I might consider buying one.
Apple hasn’t been super clear but I suspect you only get one year free. You see all you want to see in a couple of weeks anyway. I wouldn’t pay for a subscription.

This is a good media player, I bought mine 3 years ago and it still works well. No lags and movies and TV shows are cheap to rent on iTunes.

I bought the Apple TV for apple arcade. Most apple arcade games work and are perhaps better enjoyed on the big screen, controllers (PS4 or Xbox one) work well with these games.
Do you find you need more than 32GB for storing games?
I am on the 64GB, 2 selling points for me are the games and aerial screensavers. I have plenty apps and games (30+) installed and usually let the screensavers update daily (have downloaded almost 70). There is no free way of seeing how much storage has been used but I have not even seen a storage full either.
So, in short if your usage would not be like that, 32GB may be ok.

This media player is still an absoliute beast, and if you are in the apple sphere and watch media on tv, it is well worth it. Great price too.
Heads up to others who might find themselves in the same boat: the top end of the remote is both a touch panel and a click button (not a touch button). I am ashamed that I had to google how to select things using the Apple remote (as I was tapping not pressing).
I recently went for the 64GB option but you can't download shows on it, so this 32GB one is a much better value for money.

Not that I've seen, but I would question the need for the 64GB version unless you plan on installing a large amount of apps and games.
That’s a good point, but if it’s anything like my iPhone (which has 64Gb), the free space gets hogged up by apps/games and other data.
