For those days where you just really want your food to taste of melted plastic :D

    • There's days that you don't?

      • Only when I'm out shopping for metallic powders of sort

This is considered one of the better ones.

I used to have a cheap random brand one but after a while it wasn't very effective at the vacuum part of vacuum sealing. Found it useful enough that I clicked buy. Hopefully this one will last longer.

Things you can use it for that are not necessarily obvious, in addition to the obvious uses for sous vide and for keeping the rest of a bulk pack of frozen meat fresher than if not vacuum sealed:

    • Marinating meat and fish in "interesting" sauces that might otherwise stink up your fridge
    • Keeping flour and excess rice fresher (as long as you seal it on a day that is NOT humid)

Vacuum sealing coffee beans is also considered the best way to store them long term as long as you let them defrost overnight in the bag.

      • I looked into this a few years ago and the general consensus was that vacuum sealing coffee beans isn't recommended as it will draw the oils out.

  • Costco are having sale for $190 until 26th April. Slightly cheaper than Amazon but better warranty service I think?

  • Is this what ozbargainers recommend? I'm looking for one but have no idea which ones are good

  • $189.99 at costco, based on latest coupons

  • Bought one from Aldi for $60 and never have a problem with it.

They $39 at moment at Aldi

      • Is this all Aldis? mine is near Queen Vic

        • a few aldis have it marked as $39

I've had mine for about 2 years now and can't recommend it enough, initially thought i wouldn't use it as much and including all the attachments such as FoodSaver Fresh containers and ziplock bags were all on sale. I was hesitant at first that the Foodsaver was a gimick, however when I would only use half of veges or fruits I started using it with the vacuum rolls and ziplocks and it really does retains for longer and yes your avos don't go brown. I also use it for my meats and fish products I freeze, as it ensures you don't get frost in them in comparison to using a freezer bag. The best accessory I think available (apart from the obvious freezer and pantry sealing for longer purpose) is the FoodSaver Quick Marinator. This is a useful product if you intend to use it for both purposes (i.e. using accessories such as containers and zip lock bags, quick marinator etc.), however, if you are only going to use it for the vacuum seal roles only and want to save a few bucks just get an alternative as the multi purpose of this is the reason you're paying for this premium. However, I've tried cheaper ones before and they were crap and didn't compare, and once i got this thing and it has a home on my kitchen counter since.

    • Did I misunderstand or can one use ordinary Ziploc bags as an alternative to the rolls with this device?

Speaking of which where does one purchase rolls for this device as a cost effective price?

      • I believe you need special ones with a port but there is youtubes on how to make your own.Iv been looking at getting this.

  • Other feature of these is they will reseal chip bags or other plastic bags.

  • I missed out on the the last 50% off sale, hopefully they'll have another one soon

  • Got JB to price match and bought with vouchers. Thanks OP!

    • what do you have to show them - $189 /inc coupons?
