[QLD, VIC, NSW] Free Boxes of Fresh Produce Delivered for Jobless @ Simon George & Sons (Existing Customers)

1058

And another great news story. Happy Easter, and stay safe :)

Fruit and vegetable heavyweight Simon George & Sons is giving away boxes of fresh produce to the newly unemployed. The Brisbane family-run wholesaling business, itself hard hit by coronavirus because it supplies the hospitality and tourism sectors, is delivering the free care packages to help “get through these crazy times together”. The boxes contain enough for a family of four and include bananas, potatoes, apples, carrots, tomatoes and lettuce, as well as eggs and orange juice. More than 100 have been delivered within 24 hours of launching the initiative, and Mr George said customers who didn’t need help themselves were passing boxes on to others.

“One big hotel just had to let go 30 kitchen staff, and they will all be getting care packages.” He said the initiative was a win win. “We’ve been almost wiped out ourselves, but it’s important for us to stay in touch with the people who’ve supported us over the years and to say thank you. “We have the time and the vehicles to deliver in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Noosa, Cairns, Townsville, Sydney and Melbourne, and when we come out the other side, we want people to remember we are still here.”

"Oh Hallelujah, our problems are solved. We have banana bread."

  • +9

Great intentions and cause. There are no actual details on how to claim… Am I missing something?

    • +1

It's just an article about a company doing good. The people chosen are from their database of customers, who they are contacting and asking if they need assistance.

      Am I missing something?
Maybe being a client of this company!

      • +16

Yep. Thus it's not a deal.

        • Hmmmm, I was wondering what the "targeted" meant in the title.

Sort of falls under "Deals available only to staff or employees."

  • +1

How does one access this deal?

    • +10

      Very targeted!
Go back in time, become a business client of this company, lose your job, & they'll probably contact you. Easy😉

But a Police officer just told me time travel was not an Essential reason for not being at home & gave me a fine😷

    Good news stories aren't deals

  • +12

I don't think this is really for the general public.

  • this is cool.

    • +7

oh just read "Deals available only to staff or employees." not cool.

  • +10

Not a public deal. You would assume that people working for them are being made aware of the offer.

  • +21

Seems like tightarse is trawling news articles and social media about COVID-19 for so called “deals” he can post for internet points

    • +1

I agree. From the amount of awesome deals he posts he must be putting in full-time hours trawling news, social media, reddit, 4chan, dark web, etc. and all he receives in return is internet points! Yes, sometimes he misses the mark (like this deal) but most of the time they are front page worthy. #notallheroeswearcapes

    • -2

The only ones who really care about the internet points are the ones negging/upvoting the deals and comments. If they didn't care they wouldn't vote like the vast majority of OzBargainers.

Hard logic to understand I know.

    • -4

Username checks out, someone works hard to help out not "internet points"

  • +8

    Not available to general public.

  • +13

Seriously, Ozbargain Mods need to vet any COVID-19 Free deals before posting so it's not abused by the public…some of these 'deals' are better left where they are intended to be!!!!!!!!!!

  • +3

This is a forum post yeah?

  • +4

This seems more appropriate for OzNewsStory not OzBargain.

  • A good news is a deal?

    • -1

"Free food" is the deal, "good news" is the hope that we all survive this…

  • +1

Need to already be a customer, then become unemployed, then hope they contact you?

An offer laid upon a target upon targeted.
Nice sentiment from SGS, but it's very limited in its audience.

  • So many kitchen hands and chefs over here on sponsored work visas now out of the job with zero financial support as they are not eligible for job keeper / job seeker. Obviously most restaurants and hotels no longer trading.

This is targeted to assist their clients employees who now find themselves out of work struggling to literally put food on the table.

Obviously not a deal for the general public though…

  • stop tooting your own horn and just get it done…

  • +1

I don't see a problem with this deal. Only avaliable to past and present clients. Order a box and you will become a present client. How hard is that?
