Once you see the face. You just cant unsee it.

    • +1

It's ugly AF but such good value for money IMO and I paid $200 for it

      • Don't really care about the looks, what's the sound quality like?

        • +3

It's surprisingly good, esp if you prefer a bit more bass.. you can adjust it via the app though (the Sony app I must note is pretty crappy)

    • Haha I think you just ruined it for me. Not a happy looking face.

    • Thanks, I hate it.

  • That's bloody good. I don't need, but do want. Any Big W workers able to get store stocks?

    • +7

System isn’t letting me check other stores (Clearance items don’t seem to let me) so you’d have to call stores individually or contact head office.

      • Hi just out of interest do you know of any of these still available in NSW? Thanks

  • +1

    not available online :(

      That's a real place?

      • +3

Yeah it's pretty rough, and is hot most of the year. A bit hard to get around.

        • +1

I think he was talking about the place.

      • they pronounce it coburn and even spell it that way on a lot of businesses, i would too

      • Used to work there.

Has a guy with my contact as puppie Cockburn.

Sadly when I call him, his phone show my caller ID as puppie cock…

Try explaining that to his misses.

  • Sadly (apparently) not compatible with the Wireless Party Chain feature of many of their other Bluetooth speaker

    • +1

should work if you've got other chromecast speakers around - that's what I am planning to use it for

      • +1

That's how I use it.. audio groups on Google home, works really well

  • +1

Birthday is on Sat and I've been looking at getting a bluetooth speaker for outdoors and this pretty much fits the bill. Hopefully it's in stock somewhere in the GC area!

    • +8

      Who are you partying with?

      • +1

Maybe two people can visit and still social distance. In QLD that’s okay still.

        • -2

Hmm, wouldn’t it be classed as non essential?

Not allowed in NSW, household only. Only when outside for exercise can the household add 1 extra for a walk, etc.

    • +2

Are you gonna use it for ambient party chatter? Haha, happy birthday in advance.

      • Thanks mate!

    Booming "Hey Google" ?

  • How's this compare to a Bose SoundLink Mini? I have one, it's loud but not that loud.

  • I'm assuming with the Google software you can do the easier "Google home/Chromecast" connection instead of the finicky Bluetooth.

    • +1

Yup it's got a built in Chromecast which connects to a wifi network. Chromecast audio is simply amazing.

      • +1

Just to confirm, you're talking about connecting google home to this speaker via Bluetooth so you can cast music instead of BT connection?

Or does this speaker have chromecast built in so we can just cast to it?

If it's the latter, then that makes this speaker much better than the Google home max at this price…

        Thanks

        • +1

          The latter

  • Big sounds ofcourse, how about sound quality?

  • +1

There is stock in WA. Might grab one tomorrow.. just wondering if sound quality is good? reviews are mixed.

    • How you find it?
May I know Which big W in WA?
      Thanks

  • Would this be good to pair with a TV for movies/games etc?

    Like, instead of a soundbar?

    • +1

There's no AUX or any other audio input. Only Bluetooth and WiFi. So you can't connect it to the TV.

      • +1

You can if your TV has Bluetooth :) But not an ideal solution.

        • I've never had a soundbar, but kind of assumed recent TV models all had blue tooth or wifi means of sending audio data. TV I have has wifi built in - could I safely assume it would work with a wireless speaker then? (will have a look at the options menu)

          • @CrankyCarrot: soundbars usually connect via hdmi or sometimes an optical cable. Check for bluetooth connection on your tv but i dont think this would sound great for a tv

  • Don't know why I needed one but I just got one at Winston Hills… One left from what I could see.

  • Looks like in QLD it's $199 :( Just visited Robina.

    • Scans at $99

      • It does! Went back and asked them to scan at Burleigh Heads BigW and there was heaps left of both colours.

  • Can anyone confirm if Rockhampton (Qld) have any? Finding it challenging to get an actual answer and cannot go in store due to health stuff :/

  • +1

Just checked my local store (VIC) They had one left at $199. If you ask the staff to price check it again, they will update the price to $99.

    • which local store in VIC?

    • where?
      tahnks

  • Just called Lilydale BigW, it is still at full price. Not discounted and will not sell at this price of $99.

    • That's one of the closer stores to me. You saved me a call, cheers.

None at Pakenham or Fountain Gate in Vic either.

  • I've got one. sound is fine for me.

I do have issues getting it to connect to WiFi/responding to google requests sometimes - often a google home 10m away will respond instead!

You can't 'shift' music from a google speaker to this however. (which you can do from one google speaker to another)

    • Can you add it to a Chromecast speaker group?

      • well, I've just added it to a speaker group in the Google Home app on my phone, so I presume yes.

        • Thanks, now just trying to locate stock at one of my local stores.

  • Zero at Plumpton BIG W

  • None: Chermside, Strathpine, Taigum

  • +1

Picked up the last one from Elizabeth SA.
    Thanks OP.
Happy with the audio quality for the price. The wife will love it.

  • Top Ryde sold out.

  • +2

Thanks OP, picked up last one from Box Hill. Google assistant works well but not so well if playing loud music haha, the 'live sound' feature is noticeably different / cool and the lights syncing with the music is a nice touch. Definitely more of a 'want' than 'need' but very good value IMO!

  • North Lakes sold out. I got the last one :)

  • TAS: ROsny Park, Kingston and Glenorchy = Zero

Anybody can help me buy? Cheers.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just hooked it up after purchase. Wicked sound and super easy set up if you're a Google Home user. Didn't know there were two colours, was given then blue without realising but honestly looks deceptively gun metal black if placed in a relatively dark room

  • +2

I've taken two of these back due to insane battery drain (when off). I would literally have to charge it after less than a week of non use (it was near full after last use). I quite liked the speaker (for what it is) but gave up on it and grabbed a JBL. I've not seen much forum talk on this but for it to happen on two different units is odd.

  • Got the last one in Blacktown this morning. Certainly doesn't sound like $399 but for $99 it's a damn-fine box.

  • Managed to get one but the battery is faulty.
Out of the box the battery was completely flat, charged it but it wouldn't hold the charge. It dies straight away.

I hope they don't tell me I have to refund and no repair or exchange

    • Mine's the same, I charged it fully last night and used it for, 30mins on probably 15% volume coz it was late.

I've left it the entire day switched off and now it's saying low battery.

In addition, I press and hold the Bluetooth pairing button and nothing happens??

      • +1

Did you charge it using the USB-C port or the AC port? It will only charge via USB-C if your charger can charge at 3.0 amps or more. I charged mine with the supplied AC charger and the battery life is great. Used it for about 4 hours today and it says still 80% charge remaining.
And the sound is fantastic after tweaking the EQ settings via the Sony app. Don't think you'd get better wireless sound for $99 anywhere. Amazes me that people are going nuts over the $160 Bose SoundLink mini when this speaker would blow that away even at 25% volume!

        • I used the supplied charger. I guess the battery is a lemon…

Which app did you use? There are many Sony apps it confused me. A playstore link would be great!

          Thanks

        • I used the supplied charger too, I've left it on charge over night since 9:30pm and unplugged it at 7am this morning. It says it's fully charged but we'll see this afternoon.

In addition, the Bluetooth doesn't seem to work, I press and hold but nothing happens…

Speaking of volume, mine is so soft, I set it at full 100% and have my phone at maximum level and the videos I watch on youtube ain't that loud. I'll try again this evening.

I might take it to a Sony store to ask?

          • @PavloXYZ: Did you try adjusting the sound with the buttons on the speaker? It might be set to low on the speaker itself. I would also recommend installing the Sony Music Centre app as it gives you much better control of the sound with equaliser settings, as well as Extra Bass and Live Sound settings. I also have a Sony XB30 speaker, so I am used to the quirks of Sony speakers. They need a bit of fiddling with the settings to get the best sound, but once you do, they sound really good.

          • @PavloXYZ: Bugger! Mine just did the battery drain thing too. Was working fine for a few hours yesterday. I checked the battery just before turning it off, and it still had 60%. Turned it on this morning and is was completely flat. Seems like it is not turning off properly? I will contact Sony today.
I hope it just needs a firmware update or something because I love the speaker apart from this issue. Unbeatable sound for $99.

  • was 3 left at strathpine when i grabbed one yesterday arvo.

  • I know that over-pricing via the old RRP scam means that these were never worth $399, but how do these compare to Anker Sonos or other bluetooth speakers.

  • +1

TGG refused to price match as it was below cost.
Does anyone have a receipt they are willing to share?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Just letting people know these still are around.

My partner checked Marion Big Dub and they had one out the back.

    • Fortunate for you. I've tried 4 stores in VIC with no luck :(

  • None on Big W Campsie and Hurstville NSW

  • Anyone else managed to resolve the battery drain issues (while turned off) with this speaker? Weird thing is, it will run for about 8-10 hours after a full charge with Extra Bass turned on and around 40% volume. But if I charge it, then just turn it on for 5 minutes, then turn it off again, the next day it is completely flat. It is like it is not actually turning off….maybe it's a Google feature to keep listening to us all the time in the background?
