    EGO - Blower

Tried it… Didn't work. Still have my Ego.

  • Gee these are expensive - cant wait till battery powered garden equipment drops in price.

    • +2

They have - just not for anything this good.

  • +1

Great for drying the car after washing. Awesome quality product.

Talking to another retailer yesterday, Blackwoods have just lost their agent license with EGO in Australia, so they are selling off all their EGO stock at below cost price, but some items are already out of stock in NSW. The higher priced kits are what appears to be still in stock. Other retailers won't price match these prices as it is below cost pricing.

If you add items to your cart and they have a delivery time of 20+ days when you go to checkout, it means that item is out of stock.

Full Blackwoods EGO list here: https://www.blackwoods.com.au/hotdealproducts?q=%3Arelevance…

These sale prices are typically 30% off retail (EGO is one of those brands that rarley drop prices) and EGO tools sit at the top of the list for most Choice Magazine reviews. High end quality gear.

    Good luck!

    • Does not look like clearance price as I got the same kit from them for 360 a few months back.

      • What size battery? This kit is 5.0Ah, there is also a 2.5Ah blower kit too for $289: https://www.blackwoods.com.au/power-tools/cordless-power-too…

        • +1

5.0ah and fast charger too. Of course it was on special as well.

          • @mmcs: Great bargain! Perhaps the writing was already on the wall for them losing their EGO dealership.
I hear they are great quality. Happy with your purchase?
I think I'll grab some items.

            • +1

@ozpanda: The quality is very good. Very happy.

    • I should have said "selling MOST of their EGO stock at below cost price". Not all EGO items are discounted.

      https://www.blackwoods.com.au/power-tools/cordless-power-too…

The best way to save money is to get a single kit that includes a tool, battery and charger, then buy skins or attachments for the other tools you need and share the kit battery and charger between the tools.

    • They were heaps cheaper when Masters were liquidating :)
Got most of their range a few years back thanks to this.

  • Most stuff on backorder in WA (i.e. to be never fulfilled).

    Oh well!

  • I still have one of these and a line trimmer from the days Masters was around. I have only taken it out from the box to check the battery still works.

    • Let me know if you plan on offloading the blower only, I would be interested.

  • Tried buying spare battery, description says minimum of 1 item per cart (makes sense) but entering card details and error message says you have to purchase minimum of 2.

    • Worth calling them?

  • EGO vs Stihl (petrol) vs. other brands?

We have a fairly large garden including extensive hedges (6ft high lilly pillys, 2ft buxus, etc.).

    Looking to get:

Blower (my God sweeping gum leaves off of the pavers is a killer)
    Edger
    Line Trimmer
    Hedge Trimmer

Thinking Stihl Kombi but prefer the convenience of a non-petrol solution if I can get similar pwr output.

The Ryobi petrol system is good value but that thing vibrates like crazy. And not in a good way.

    • +2

I sold my Stihl line trimmer for an Ego powerload trimmer. Absolutely no regrets. Hedge trimmer is also excellent. Their blowers also usually top the market in cordless reviews, but I've not used one (raking is cheaper!)

    • I've tried pretty much most of the EGO stuff and it's all excellent.

  • +1

Thanks Op! Picked up a chainsaw skin as it’s something I’ve had my eye on for some time now.

I have found the Ego products brilliant. I have a mower, blower, line trimmer, hedger and now chainsaw. Three of these are still from the masters sale and are still going strong while being used weekly.

  • +1

Didn't work for me, added to cart and went back to normal price in cart.

  • I still have the Kobalt 80V batteries and the mowver , bought when Master Home closing down, but can not find blower using this battery.

  • +3

I keep reading it as a LEGO blower

  • +1

Thanks - good find. Good price for (older-style) batteries and the the pole trimmer kit is good value. $200 under the RRP if you're interested in getting a multi-tool head as an entry point into the ego range. I'm struggling to justify it though as already have a line trimmer and use a cheapy Ozito pole trimmer. This would be much better balanced (as the motor is in the base, not the head), but probably not $400 better if you don't need the other tool attachments…

    • +1

Already have the ego line trimmer and ozito pole hedger. Still bought it.

Will keep the line trimmer.. I feel like I don't want to use the bump feed on the multi tool. You can snag an ego line trimmer for relatively cheap (second hand $100 for my 38cm bump feed) but you cannot snag the multi tool that way ($700 usually + extra for the trimmer head)

Will ditch the ozito pole hedger. It's too freaking top-heavy. Not good for my back.

      • Good on you. I debated it for a while and then decided that i only use the pole trimmer two days a year and my backs still ok - I could make do with the ozito. But yes, it’s a great deal.

I’ve also got the powerload trimmer - it’s great, particularly at $199 in this sale. .

      • Have you got the pole trimmer yet? Thoughts (re Ozito etc)?

        • Nah haven't got it yet. There were none in stock in my state when this deal started but I called them and they were happy to ship from South Australia. Blackwoods gave great service.

        • Don't buy the ego. It's just as heavy. I unpacked but did not use it yesterday.

          Ego:
Good: sharper and gutsier, will cut better I think.
Good: the ratcheting head might be good at accessing some tree tops without a ladder. (Bad: However, since the pole is vertical, the inward reach is only as long as the blade. So twice the blade length is the biggest diameter tree you want to deal with).
          Good: made of better materials
Good: requires less storage space if you get the corresponding attachments too than similar tools would when bought separately.

Bad: Just as heavy/unwieldy as the ozito.
Bad: the pole length is not fully adjustable like the ozito. There are basically two lengths the ego can be, and you have to get off your ladder and add in the extension to change it. Whereas the ozito there is a clamp that lets you adjust the length and it is designed to be tightened/undone with your hands (no tools) without having to get down or find attachments. However, I think you wouldn't run it with the extension anyway, too unwieldy. I'm not sure if it will be that bad in practice but it is definitely not as good as the ozito. Without having the motor in the head, ego can't design this better.
Bad: the handle on the ego is just sh^tly designed. It's far too close to the motor, meaning it's hard to lift when held out horizontally (even without the extension piece). I remedied it by installing it backwards, which makes it similar to the ozito in terms of back strain. But the truth is the pole on the multi tool is too short - the hand rest should be further up, but can't be, because the connector to the attachment is in the way. A real c^ck up of a design.

  • I just bought the trimmer with the carbon shaft last week for $299 - FML. It's now $199 here. Great price

    • What 2.4mm nylon trimmer line do you suggest to use with these?

      • +1

I have only used it once so far, so just the line it came with. it is not the best. I will try and do some research.

      • From a quick search, it appears Trail Blazer 2.4mm would be the best.

  • I'm an EGO convert. Just bought a lot of extras to add to my fleet.

  • +1

Thanks, I've just scored myself the Brushcutter Attachment for $129. I called 2 Total Tools shops near my house for a price match and they both rejected.

  • Just ask one of your neighbours, everyone I know owns a $40 corded aldi/Bunnings blower they only used once.

  • Ego blower vs Ozito? That sounds like a dumb question, BUT:

-The little ozito is light as hell which is great.
-Ozito isn't gutsy like the Ego I'm sure, but it's still enough.
-The nozzle is entirely different. The ego is "I'm going to smash that whole area willy nilly" whereas the ozito is directional. I actually get alot of precise control out of the curved, narrow ozito style head.

Should I just consider them entirely different tools due to the nozzle? Or is the Ego going to be good for directional control too?

  • +1

Price of blower back to $579. Checked in store to confirm.

    • This. $457 was a deal but not $579. Raising the price by $122 really kills it.

They need to drop their price by about $80 to make it break-even vs other options and/or buying separates ($289 2.5aH kit + $100 for diff battery + $60 nozzles + $50 charger upgrade = $499. $579-$499=$80). Drop it by more than $80 to make it a winner.

  • Thanks Op. I ordered skin only which is on sale too @$169

  • Missed out on a hedge trimmer attachment of even any kind of hedge trimmer. What a shame
They dropped their prices on a lot of things heavily November Black Friday so seems like this could be getting rid of the rest.
Anyone wants to get rid of the hedge attachment in their kit let me know!

    • +1

Yeah I got the mower on Black Friday.

Wife cracked it (she is very attached to her shitty $30 corded mower) and I had to sell it unopened.

Thankfully I sold it for the same price I paid and got to claim the free battery.

Went on gumtree and bought a mower skin (older model ego) for $150. New blade too. Laughing.

Forced wife to use it ("it's only $150, I'll sell it if you don't like it and I can't lose money at this price").

      Turns out she loves it.

      What a saga lol.

On the upside, ego mower (with new blade) + st1500 trimmer + new 2.5aH battery + charger for $300

I really want the trimmer.. Just because I want it.. but if I buy it I won't win that battle. The ozito is working well :(

      • Well done - turned the tables on that one.
