$1,700 for a phone in this economy?

    • +13

Hey, just posting a deal mate. I'm sure there are people that can afford it and or is looking for an upgrade without signing to a length carrier contract. Have a nice day :)

    • +1

I'm with jubbing. Not only are the prices sky-high, but carrier subsidies are all gone, so it's just not worth it for many people like me.

There's a place for these phones, but it's now gone from my 2 year upgrade to 4 or 5, for me anyway.

    • There are people who can afford it and I hope they buy it even if only to stimulate innovation instead of hoarding their cash.

      • +13

        instead of hoarding their cash.

There was a time when this was called saving.

    • Well that's the price mate. Pretty sure the pricing structure had no allowance or consideration for this pandemic in its infancy. A deal is still a deal and one who had been waiting for an S20 Ultra would still be after one today.

    • Yep, I'm here looking for a good price on 2 x S20 Ultra's. Missus wants a new phone as well.

    this is toooooo expensive !!

better to wait for 1+ 8 pro.

    • +1

will be at similar price range like 1600+

    • +1

Whilst that is a great phone, it won't be too much cheaper due to the weak Aussie dollar and importing taxes and price gouging by retailers. On top of that, there is no local warranty.

    • +1

Oneplus 8 pro is $1,500. And, mind, isn't officially sold in Aus (just places like kogan and a few ebay stores)

  • +6

Unreal the price of these phones nowadays…

  • +7

Look at Iphones or the Zflip. That it will make your eyes water. It is what it is. You don't have to buy it.

    • +5

No the problem is human need to stick together and refuse to buy overpriced items

      • +2

        Yeah…. Apple begs to differ.

      • +1

You can't change human nature. People will always want better or more expensive things naturally. Ie, My partner 90% of the time will always choose the most expensive item even when she doesn't know the price. I don't understand your argument to my point. I said you don't have the buy it which is as you say sticking together. I can post toilet paper for $100 a roll. Do you need to buy it at that price. No. Then it doesn't get sold and I will have to sell it cheaper. There will always people that want the latest. A seller will market the cost based on likely return. I say it everytime as an example. Would you buy cheap perfume. No. Its the perceived luxury and speciality of that item that the seller can market it as. The contents to make that would be very cheap. Its the brand you are also buying into. Lots of alternatives at whatever price point you want to purchase an item for.

Pbly wait for the phone to drop in price further, or get it at education stores/ epp. imo this phone isnt worth the price tag, 120hz is the only feature this samsung phone has that i think its worth mentioning, the camera was over hyped and quite frankly, a gimmick. Dont imagine any individuals who is going to use 100x zoom, or 8k video

Also the fact that this isnt the snapdragon model is also the main reason why many users has fault with the battery life, due to snap dragon being more alot more efficient when comparing to the exynos version the cpu

  • +10

The long list of issues on the Exynos models plus no 120hz at max resolution really killed it for me. The hardware is top notch, but with the amount of issues and faults on this model, it's not worth buying.

  • +5

Had two units and both overheat with simple usage.

  • +9

Exynos 990 is extremely bad at gaming and they are having heaps of issues with them. With this ridiculous price this processor struggle to run 60 FPS games on 40.

    • Yet to see anyone play these high end mobile games….

      • PUBG mobile and fortnite are both pretty big mobile games, aren't they?

        • +1

          Would you buy a 14 y/o a 1700$ phone to play games?

  • +5

Don't by the Exynos varient if you can avoid it.

  • +3

Don't get Exynos 990. It's a useless APU in this century.

  • +2

I personally would never buy any android phone that cost more than $1200, because I care about how much I can sell it for in 2 years time.

    • You can get a great android phone for $4-500 like pixel 3a or 4 on sales.

  • +2

    Cheaper here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/531701
    $1633 plus about $7 shipping.

  • +5

I have this phone. I would recommend the s20 or s20+ because they are almost identical to the ultra. Also people stop complaining when someone makes a post for an expensive item. Some people aren't affected by the current lockdown rules and state of economy.

    • +6

This is usual OZB. Cause somehow they've been living under a rock for years and have never heard of expensive phones….

Walt till they see the $4k flip phones.

No one is stopping them buying a mid range phone, but hey, come here and make an opinion for no reason.

I have this phone too, love it. But hey I don't spend $60 on a bottle of alcohol or packet of cigarettes or whatever else.

    • I got too, would I d recommend s20. But its a great phone just not for the price. The screen is amzing

    • +1

But still a ridiculous price for a phone. My gaming laptop cost less!

      • -1

And there are gaming laptops that cost many times more, what's your point?!?!

        • +1

My point is there's a sucker born every minute. There's plenty of phones around that are less than half the price of this and will do the same thing.

  • -2

    Exynos 990 pass…………….

    • +2

Agree - if paying premium money, would want 865+

    • +3

Not worth a downvote. This is the global model - the only version sold in Aus.

      • And I'm not paying around $1500 for a device with no warranty guarantees
