40k / 60k Qantas Points for $0 after $5k Min Spend Requirement Met @ Qantas and CBA Credit Cards

60

To get the most out of this deal (60k points) you'll need to not have held a CBA credit card or a Qantas Points earning credit card in the last 12 months. For 40k points, just the former applies.

This post is combining two previous ozbargain deals:
1. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/528897
2. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/515802 (significantly negged, but really not a bad card IMO*)

Get approved for the card and you'll be issued 100k CBA award points after spending $5k within 90 days. 3 CBA awards earns 1.2 Qantas points, so (100000/3) x 1.2 = 40000 QFF, + 20000 QFF if you are a new Qantas points earning card holder (12 month exclusion period applies)

*Why I think the CBA Ultimate card is decent:
1. No monthly or annual fee if you spend at least $2500 per statement period.
2. No international transaction fees.
3. $0 Additional Card Holder Fee
4. No Cap on points earning

Still don't like it? Close the account after 90 days and take the 40k/60k QFF points with you.

How does a $2.5k spend req per month just to waive the monthly/annual fee contribute to this being a decent card..?

    • it just want you to spend more if you can afford it

    99% of ozbargain.

    • I think someome missed out CBA in the sentence.

      • I think it means issued by Qantas directly?

        • Shrug"

@[Deactivated]: Yeah I'm confused by this too, is it any bank QFF card linked to a QFF account? Or just CBA QFF cards/products?

  • what point?

    Apart from the welcome bonus

3 CBA awards earns 1.2 Qantas points (0.4 per $1 spend)
seems not a very good earning rate

Qantas AMEX discovery earns 0.75 per $1
and its free annual fee (no min spend)

In summary, will be good to grab this for the welcome bonus
but for daily shopping, still go with AMEX if its accepted

    Better than Velocity FF 😢

    Too soon?

    • I received an email from velocity frequent flyer saying that the frequent flyer program is a separate company and therefore is not under administration, and the reason why they have decided to suspend redemption is because they have been overwhelmed by the number of redemptions due to people thinking that they were going to go under together with the airline.

      • Indeed. I received the same email.

However I’m unsure how that works when Velocity was re-purchased last year by Virgin for ~$700million..

Add credit card tag please OP.

  • Sounds like a good deal to me… i do a lot of foreign spend and can meet the requirements, may not good for everyone.

Tried to apply but it keeps pointing me to 'Apply in Netbank', i'm not a Commonwealth Bank customer - do I need like a debit or something with them to apply? Or there is another way to apply without being an existing customer?
