Could mention USB 2.0 in title

      Took the words

If it’s anything like the 16GB speed demon I’ve got, it’s 300MB Per Minute ability will change your life.

      • You've already changed my life

    • +1

      Remote working?

    • +5

Plenty of people are still going into the office five days a week. Or the factory. Or the hospital. Or the supermarket. Or…

    • Picking up bargains falls under essentials.

  • +20

Hardly a bargain when USB 3 drives are only a few dollars more: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology…

Though in reality a crap USB3 drive probably won't be much better than a crap USB2 drive.

I suppose the real question is who needs 64GB of slow, portable flash memory? Copying would take forever…

    • -1

      Good for photo archiving etc.

      • +9

        Archiving on this thing? Ouch..

        • Maybe m-disc optical media for archiving? Last a shitload longer than normal.
I bought a burner that supports it, never heard of it before.
Unfortunately manufacturers dont make it obvious how long these devices last, its easy to assume they last for a lifetime.

I use a cheap USB 2 drive to play music in my car. 64 GB is more than enough for music

  • +6

Thing is, I have 2 TV's and they will only accept USB 2.0's instead of USB 3.0's so am interested in this…

    • +2

FYI: passing a USB 3 through a USB 2 hub will sometimes get you around that issue.

    • +1

If you'll be copying files onto them from a PC regularly, you'll probably still get your money's worth from USB3 on that end.

    • +1

But USB 3 is backwards compatible with USB 2

Got some of these but 16gb ones. They are terrible fit. A lot of force, almost feels like you are going to break something pushing it in to the usb socket.

    • +1

Could be your.laptop. I have 2 different laptops and one fits perfectly.

      • -1

Maybe my sticks are from a bad batch then. Because it's the same on my pc, laptop and tv.

    • +1

      This shape?

I have heaps of these and they all fit snugly

Suggest you check your PC, perhaps some filth in what ever the female USB bit on the PC is called! :)

    • There are a few owner reviews on Amazon to back up that some batches are a tight fit, that the outside casing can be crushed, that the insides can fall out.

    • My laptop has had a USB cord stuck in it for 8 years now. Nothing will ever get it out. It’s convenient at times.

      • Maybe use some pliers to yank it out?

  • USB 2.0 is terrible with the speed but for this price, 64GB is a steal.

    • +3

I don't think 64GB at USB 2 speeds is worth the frustration

    • +2

I have the 16GB version of these, which takes an hour to write and read back 16GB. 5MB/sec write and 32MB/sec read.

So it could take 4hrs to do 64GB if they didn’t improve that write speed.

  • these are a bargain.. copy your pr0n onto these and walk away and come back in a few hours.. done.. good for throw away media, kris kringle, gag gifts..

  • Good deal if USB 3

  • From a family with 3 students of varying ages who should but don't backup their laptops!

    Many thanks

    Bought 3 from South Yarra

    • +1

The speed of these won't encourage them to change their ways at all unfortunately, without knowing the quality, suggest cancel order (if you can) and see Rajeh's post below. Good luck.

  • +1

Great to spend this for something like saving assignments or photos for printing in photo kiosk

Otherwise, more preferable to get a USB 3.0 these days

  • Thanks, will grab one tomorrow!

  • The 32Gb one is $12. lol

  • +3

If anyone's looking for a USB 3 alternative the Cruzer Glide is $13. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/sandisk-64…

  • +2

My order was cancelled and (apparently) refunded.

Giving Officeworks their due - comms were clear and fast.
