The official website for the two-part film Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie announced today that the first three original Sailor Moon TV anime series in the 1990s will be streamed on the Sailor Moon franchise's official YouTube channel for free from this Friday, April 24. This is part of the promotional project for the theatrical release of the film's first part that will open in Japan on September 11, 2020. Ten episodes from a total of the 127 episodes from the three series will be added each week.

The three TV anime series are Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (46 episodes/1992-1993), Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon R (43 episodes/1993-1994), and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon S (38 episodes/1994-1995). The three are chosen because the upcoming film is based on the fourth "Dead Moon" arc of Naoko Takeuchi's original Sailor Moon manga, which was adapted into the fourth TV anime series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon SuperS (34 episodes/1995-1996).

Rebuild of Evangelion -

The much-anticipated fourth Rebuild of Evangelion film, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time has unfortunately been delayed again, this time due to the coronavirus pandemic. To soften the blow for unhappy fans, the Rebuild series’ production house, Khara, Inc, has released the first three films for free on Youtube.

There’s a major caveat for Western fans — the films are streaming with Japanese audio, sans English subtitles. Still, it’s a rare opportunity to see a big budget anime franchise on a public streaming site and it’s part of an initiative uplift the Japanese Evangelion fans awaiting the new movie.

    My kids are watching the new series of Sailor Moon on ABC and I don't like it as much as the original series.

      It's OK subbed, it's had the usual "We can't have any adult themes" in the Dub.

      I'm not anti Dub; like, OnePunchMan dub is hella accurate, I like it; but most of the ones that TV aims at kids over here gets mutilated.

        I watched the original series dubbed on Aggro's and it was better. Having said that, I do prefer subs, but the kids aren't old enough to read quickly for subs.

          The dub of Sailor Moon was particularly obnoxious though. Comments about Usagi/Serena’s weight when she was overeating removed, whole episodes removed e.g. the finale of the first season was so censored it went from two parts into one to cut out all the death. No one really dies in the localised version, they’re sent to the ’negaverse’ or ‘destroyed’. Neptune and Uranus went from being lovers to cousins, Zoicite was a gay man but turned into a straight woman with a thing for Malachite. all the strange underage semi-nudity cut, most blood removed or changed to green etc. Any reference to Japanese culture removed such as signs with kanji on them coloured out and weird flipping on street scenes to make vehicles look like they were driving on the right hand side. And those annoying kiddy ‘Sailor Says’ bits at the end didn’t exist on the original.

      New series focus too much on graphics, CGI, lack of original cuteness and that Sailormoon touch that has been known for long. The way how things are drawn and portrayed cannot be compared.

      The old illustrations are better in that regard.

      It's the same with all these 3D cartoon shows, they don't compare to the old ones

    1. Download this free chrome extension to put subtitles straight onto the youtube video

    3. Chuck the downloaded zipped file onto the extension and tune the sub timing so that it's properly cued.
      With the subs I provided in no.2, you will need 31400ms delay to align with the movie

        A quick google of "download youtube to mp3" will get you some results, unfortunately Google Chrome store doesn't encourage downloading youtube videos so there won't be many chrome extensions of that nature.

        But hopefully it won't have to come to that - with my method above you can watch the youtube video directly without downloading, just need to load the subs.

    Original is best. Eventhough its mainly targeted at female audience….I had a glimpse when I was a kid and thought was pretty cool for girls. Can understand why they like it. Girl power anime

    Eh? It says 3 evangelion films in the description. There are 5 long videos on youtube though?

    I stopped watching after SBS screened the original, yonks ago, because the naming was confusing. Still confused.
