  • Ingredients:
Alcohol, Aqua, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Triethanolamine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Cross Polymer, Fragrance.
This is identical to the Scotts Hand Sanitiser and since both are made by Pascoe's, the alcohol content should be the same (either 62% or 70% v/v Ethanol).

        I Agree 100%.

  • +1

I was at Bunnings and didn't see this today, didn't happen to walk by the counter if that store :(

I'd say maybe even get in quick cos it's almost bound to be "recalled" because of the bottle with the sort of weaker reasons I've seen recalls issued for …

  • +1

Smell of this sanitizer is worst… its cheap for reason

  • +1

    natural selection at its finest

  • Kills only 99.9% of germs… What if that 0.1% spreads the virus.

  • +1

If it doesn't say 70-80% alcohol then it doesn't have it (otherwise they would state it). Probably means that it isn't very effective against coronavirus.

    • +2

Thats what i said. It clearly did not state its alcohol v/v so its questionable now.

    • +1

If it kills 99.9% of germs then it has a good level of alcohol.

Anything above 60% alcohol is good.

      • -1

Many wipes without any alcohol content says 99.9% shit. I bet you didn't read the label of contents. Please provide scientific proof.
        P.S. Coronavirus is NOT a germ(bacteria).

        • +3

          P.S. Coronavirus is NOT a germ(bacteria).

It's no bacteria, but a virus (any virus) is still a germ.

    • +8

I purchased a bottle of "1st Care Hand Sanitizer" in late February. Claimed to kill 99.9% of germs, and stated it's highly flammable on the label. When I rubbed it on my hands where was a weak scent of alcohol. I tried to light a sample on fire. It always extinguished the flame. That's a good indication it's below 50%.

Unless the label states the ethanol content as a percentage, be very very skeptical.

  • +2

man i bet these are selling like vaccines

    • 50% alcohol is crap.

    • +3

so very likely to be below standard

You can't really form this conclusion.

      1) An MSDS might only be required to specify a minimum alcohol percentage specification from a set of predefined values such as {>50%, >75%, >90%}.

      2) The MSDS is quoting >50%[weight] which is not the same as >50% v/v.

Assuming the density of the non-alcohol part of the hand sanitiser is approximately the same as that of water, then roughly speaking:

      ABV = (99823 × ABW) ÷ (20878 × ABW + 78945)

where ABV is the alcohol by volume figure as a decimal, and ABW is the equivalent value by weight.

Thus >50% w/w is actually ~ >56% v/v. I suspect that the actual density of the gel is most likely greater than that of water, leading to an even greater ABV.

(A good explanation of the formula can be found here.)

      3) Apparently, Scotts Hand Sanitiser, made by the same company (Pascoe's) and with the exact same ingredient list and identical MSDS, seems to have originally been 62%, but is now 70% v/v ethanol. (Though that 62% could be w/w, which would make it ~67% v/v or even more.)

It thus seems highly likely that the Oomph's alcohol content will be the same as that of the Scotts' - either 62% (w/w or v/v) or 70% v/v. Will need to contact Pascoe's to confirm this.

  • Wonder if there are any buying limits?

Finally, I found something that prevents infection not just injecting bleach

    AMERICA MUST PAY FOR IT!
NO DOUBLT THE VIRUS WAS CREATED BY AMERCIA!

It's good to see that Bunnings hasn't bought into the price gouging that is still going on.

I fell for the upsell at the checkout of my local Chemist Warehouse yesterday… $3.99 for a 60ml bottle!!!

Shame on me for falling for it and not thinking to ask how much, shame on Chemist Warehouse using their checkout upsell technique to prey upon people at this time.

    • +1

Seems like a slightly above normal price. You cant compare $/ml with different size bottles.

Price gouging is going to a $2 dollar store when buying nick nacks and seeing a 50ml bottle for $20!!

    • +1

lol, fell for the same trap! Probably more of mental urge to buy one after not been able to find a single sanitizer one for the past 6 weeks!

    • Don't panic those 60ml bottles are better than 500ml bottles for carrying around. Just refill from the 500-1000ml+. And it turns out these are a mirage.

  • Really great price! just the cap of the bottle….. is that implying that it is "drinkable" (Trump recommended?)

  • +2

Vermont South store has stocks for store use only. They do not sell to custoners

    • +1

      Similar deal with Albury

    • +2

🤔 I wonder if it's meant for store use only, with some stores incorrectly selling to the public, or whether it's meant to be sold but some stores are reserving them for internal use? EDIT: Looks like it's meant to be sold to the public.

Need to get more feedback about other stores. (I might end up having to update the availability table.)

      • I rang a couple of stores in WA as per my separate post and even though they have hundreds in stock no one could find them.
One store mentioned that it is most likely for staff use and they may eventually sell any surplus to the public down the track.
So at the moment, even though this is a really good bargain, it's not yet available to the public.
I've not seen any posts from anyone saying they've had success getting hold of them either.

It could be that some stores are indeed incorrectly selling to the public … or they may have over bought (over stocked?)??
But with the current prices for 500ml sanitizers being well over $15 a bottle I'd say this deal is a little too good to be true.
If anyone has a photo of the item with the price tag in a store, as proof that it is being sold, they should post it as evidence.

        • One store mentioned that it is most likely for staff use and they may eventually sell any surplus to the public down the track.

I usually take what team members say with a pinch of salt. It might be true, but it might not be.

So at the moment … it's not yet available to the public.

It could be that some stores are indeed incorrectly selling to the public

As confirmed by CaptainNewspeak below the product has come through the system as a standard line, i.e. to be sold to customers, not a store-use item. That's not to say it wasn't keyed into the system incorrectly, and wasn't intended for the public. But it's also possible that some/most stores are incorrectly not selling to the public.

I've not seen any posts from anyone saying they've had success getting hold of them either.

Other than the OP. The photos seem to confirm that the item was actually bought.

But with the current prices for 500ml sanitizers being well over $15 a bottle I'd say this deal is a little too good to be true.

Maybe Bunnings is not price gouging? Before the Chinese Virus (ChiV-19) I used to buy 1L for $14-$15. cheaper just bought a 1L Scotts Hander Sanitiser, from Bunnings, for $13.90. Plus currently there's a few good deals: Amino Z Hand Sanitiser 1L $19.95 less $5 Back in Store Credit, Scotts Instant Hand Sanitiser 500ml $11.99, and Soft Care Hand Sanitiser 500ml $6.95

If anyone has a photo of the item with the price tag in a store, as proof that it is being sold, they should post it as evidence.

Or, even better, a photo of a receipt.

    • Thanks, saves me the trip.
      Might try Box Hill.

      • Same story at Box Hill. In-store use only.

  • -6

They aren't selling this to the public, its for store use only, just at Bunnings now and asked showed them the deal.

    • +1

Nah they're definitely for sale, they don't show up on stock in hand unless they're for available to customers

      • +1

Thanks. I thought that that would be the case, but wasn't 100% sure. (I worked for Coles and that's what it was like there.)

    • Which store?

  • Is it just me or is the bunnings stock checker only showing 5 Victorian stores for any item at the moment?

    • Already discussed in this previous comment thread. (That's why I posted the stock count table that's pinned to the top.)

Basically it's always showing the same five VIC stores.

  • I went to Gordon NSW store and bought 1L Scotts one @ $13.90. They don’t sell 500ml one.

    • +1

That's weird as they are showing a stock count of 122 for the Oomph 500ml.

Also, I can't check the availability of the Scotts 1L as it doesn't show up on the website and so l don't have it's I/N. (No chance that you took it down, I presume? 😉 The GTIN, i.e. the barcode number, is not much use, I'm afraid.)

  • Make your own FFS…

  • +2

Just asking for a Chinese friend, how many can you buy per person? 😆😆😆😉😈👲🈵

  • +3

this is the most bootleg looking product ive seen on here

  • +2

In WA I contacted Whitfords and Joondalup.
Whitfords couldnt find their stock although they have over 300 listed.
Joondalup have over 400 items and also could not locate them, however the guy said if they do have them its most likely for staff use only and that later on down the track they may sell off any bottles when no longer required for staff use.

  • Where are people finding these in store?

    • +1

I suspect that for some stores, the stock is still sitting out the back on a pallet. Possibly others haven't received their allocation yet.

It would be good to know where they are displayed in stores that do have them on show to see if there's some sort of pattern. Normally, these sort of Promo/Special allotments can end up in floor stacks anywhere across the store. However, I wouldn't expect that for a hand sanitiser in these times.

  • +4

Went in-store at Oakleigh Vic, checked with front desk and then store manager and showed them OZB post too as well as stock listing (qty=159). One phone call also went off from manager.

Result -> Its NOT available for sale, only for store employees use and instore use for others. You can see the bottles across store In pump bottles for everyone’s usage.

Don’t waste your time on this, I would have negated this post if my account was old enough.

  • +1

If it helps anyone here is the receipt. If it wasn’t for sale I doubt they would be able to scan it and take payment.

    • I'm now starting to think that maybe Bunnings actually deliberately set it up as a sellable item, though initially intended just for store use. That way, when things eventually settled down, they could start selling it to the public to clear out excess stock.

Seems a silly way of doing it, though. The stock counts will be stuffed unless they waste used bottles correctly. (And let me assure you, that is not likely to happen!) Plus, it might, as actually happened, lead to a situation where some stores sell it to the public, and others don't. (Not so much of a problem unless it hits OzBargain… Wait…)

Far better to have keyed the product as a store use item so it couldn't be sold and then change its status when and if they need to clear it or stock it as a standard line.

    • You're a grub.

  • +3

My bunnings (Chadstone) was selling this about a week ago. Gone next time I dropped in a few days later.

  • +1

This item has now been recalled and isolated from sale.

    • could you advise why the recall please?

      • Give you 1 guess Rusty. They're a responsible company.

        • Recalls usually when product is unsafe

in this instance it may just be unavailable to public

merely wanted a clarification to the above comment by store employee

          • @rusty2k: Sorry, thought you were referring to the debate about the container. Odds on the 'unsafe' drink bottle is the reason.

            • +3

@[Deactivated]: We haven't been told with absolute certainty but it looks like the packaging was the issue.

    • Thanks for letting us know the product was recalled and removed from sale.

      • The item is now for sale at Bunnings for $5.94
It's $1 cheaper than previously posted by OP.

  • Was just searching Bunnings for sanitisers and found that this item is now (might have been for some time already) for sale at Bunnings for $5.94
It's $1 cheaper than previously posted by OP.

There's plenty of sanitisers around now and 1 litre can be purchased for around $10, but just thought I would let folks know that the 500ml Oomph is available. :)
