        • As someone who has signed up for the $65 BYO Plan twice before and terminated, I can assure you those terms are only for the $65 Mobile Plan. as you have noted it is N/A (not applicable) for the BYO plan.

Also note the contract length, the BYO plan is 12 months while the mobile plan is 24.

Did you give the impression that you were going to cancel the plan as soon as you got home?
Never give any hints of your dodgy plan to the sales guy.

      • yeah got your point. I was kind of testing if they can cross confirm it's possible to cancel the plan and pay only $390 ETC. As I haven't done it before.

My plan is, if they find out my dodgy plan and refuse to sign me up on this deal, I'll just go to another store. They won't share my personal info across stores right? :)

        • More people who share their dodgy plan to JB hi fi and telstra directly without being smart about it, they are going to stop this way out soon.

You are pretty much ruining it for yourself and others.

If you read the thread comments, thr phone credit is how jb sell you the phone for free for you to own as it is subsidized and covered by telstra. I have done this myself and for 3 of my friends recently.

          • @aspirepranesh: alright, I'm not doing that now. Will get a Nova 5t for $443 with similar specs and avoid all the hassles. But still thank you for this thread, wouldn't know this little trick without it :P :)

            • +2

@RoyT: I have signed up myself and 3 other mates, and gone to optus and other networks successfully.

You can still do it, I just feel that you are stressing out because you haven't done it before :)

Dont tell the sales staff at JB that you are going to cancel! , then they would come up with all the BS

I am ex telstra employee btw :)

Walk in to jb, sign up, get your handset, once your number is with Telstra, call them up the next day and cancel or port out to an other provider and your bill will reflect $390. Pay it off and enjoy your new P30 for $390.

              • @aspirepranesh: Silly question, rather than porting out can I simply sign up to a new plan with a new number, pay out the plan and cancel the number all together?

    • The bottom line is even you stay for 12 months, it is still considered a good deal.

    • Ok now you've scared me. Was hoping to go in tomorrow morning but having second thoughts.

    • If I go there and ask instead of phone they give me also $900 gift card will they accept?

      • No

      • that is just their procedure, they can not give people anything for free. so they “issue” you $900 gift card spcificly for p30, "redeem" it stright away. if they give you $900 gift card, then everyboday will go there. it cost 780 without cancellation, and get $900 gift card? $120 free money+ 12 months plan. impossible.

        • Oh I see so can't buy any other things just P30.

          Thanks for information:)

This actually reminds me but I forgot to mention it in my earlier comments today.

I got the P30 today and was told by the salesperson that was doing my port that if I cancel the plan early I'll have to pay the total plan price out ($780) as a cancellation fee. I kind of fobbed it off abit that's why I forgot but I think it's more of a scare tactic as it's different to what you were told and the paperwork only mentions $390 as the cancellation fee.

      • I just checked the policy again, and found the following: Telstra policy for JB hifi mobile plans

It's kind of similar to what the JB hifi staff told me, that I need to pay $900 and also the remaining BYO plan pro-rata.

JB Hi-Fi Phone Credit (only available on $65 JB Hi-Fi Mobile Plan)

For new and existing Telstra customers signing up to a $65 JB Hi-Fi Mobile Plan, you may be eligible to recieve a credit to put towards the purchase of an eligible JB Hi-Fi handset (Phone Credit Amount). The applicable Phone Credit Amount will be applied to the purchase price of your eligible handset at the
point of sale within the JB Hi-Fi store. This Phone Credit Amount must be used at the time you sign up to the plan and is not transferable or redeemable for cash (including any unused part).
If you cancel, recontract or move to an ineligible plan then you will need to pay a Phone Credit Cancellation Fee pro-rated against the remaining months on your plan, the maximum of which is set out in the table above. This is in addition to any Early Termination Charges (ETCs) set out in the above table and accessory payments.

What happens if I cancel my plan early?

You’ll need to pay an Early Termination Charge if you cancel your plan early plus any remaining handset and accessory payments. The maximum Early Termination Charge for your plan is set out in the above table. You will also need to pay a Phone Credit Cancellation Fee if you received a Phone Credit Amount at sign up. The Maximum Phone Credit Cancellation Fee is set out in the Plan Cost table.

Although in the table the $65 BYO plan, the Phone Credit Amount is N/A, I'm not sure if JB hifi's $900 gift card counts as Phone Credit for this P30.

  • Is P30 dual sim?

  • Perfect time, the trusty Galaxy S7 just died.
The question now is which one to go for, P30 or S9 from GG deal? Any advice?

    • What's the GG deal?

    • Duplicate post

    • Replaced my dying/ slowly expanding battery S7 with the p30. what an upgrade, to me it seems a far better phone than the S9 but I really dislike the Samsungs new curved screens.

      All the best!

  • +1

Don't know if we can pay the difference and get P30 pro.

  • Tempting but my P20 Pro still going strong. Would also be more keen if P30 Pro becomes an option.

Ho hum, to buy or not to buy lol

  • If it was for an S20+ at this price i might do it…

  • Has anyone been successful in Telstra's $10 port in discount?

  • Getting varied information here, people now saying you can't cancel it with Telstra without paying $700+ as per the T&Cs.

    • +3

      The T&C's are clear

The critical information summary lays out the termination costs for the $65 BYO Plan/12 months (this offer) and the $65 Mobile Plan/24 months. You only need to pay the $390 ETC, not any phone repayments.

JB staff may be giving false information as it effects their commission, are uneducated or both.

  • +1

Anyone is successful in getting the device for $390 or cheaper? Please let us know.

  • Can Confirm guys bought $2 optus sim from coles yesterday set it up $10 needed. Then ported today no questions or red flags.

Added to my existing telstra account, now I just need to call up and have my old telstra number take over my new contract.

    • I think this is very different to what most are proposing to do here.

      • +1

It is Alot of people want the plan then cancel or similar and pay $390

But they will still need a optus or similar number to port across.

        So that part is valid.

Then they can use it as a daily or flog it off for a profit.

Phone is $899 I did ask if I could get a $899 credit on a 85" lg TV they said noooope.

Also for reference you don't need an account number if it's a prepaid sim they just use your phone number as an account number.

        • Awsome mate, appreciate it.

    • Have u been able to shift this to a old service?

  • Hey Guys,

I have just ported out of telstra and ported to Optus yesterday. Will I be eligible for this deal?

One store said they can't do it as they want me to be out of telstra for 3 months.

    • go and register a $2 optus SIM and use that. problem solved

      • Thanks mate, I have done that. Now I am with the phone, however I want to cancel my service now, or transfer to it other service.

tl;dr - got a P30 and then cancelled the Telstra plan. Process was easy and took less than a day.

Got a Huawei P30 today. The whole process was relatively painless and fit in around my work day. Short summary: got a $2 Optus prepaid SIM card ~9am. Activated the service ~10am with the compulsory $10 recharge. Bought the phone from JB ~1pm. By 2pm everything had been ported over from Optus to Telstra. 5pm I called Telstra and got the service cancelled for a $390 ETC - approx call time 35 mins.

    Notes:
    - This was my first time doing this sort of thing.
    - I didn't mention anything about my plans to cancel the phone plan or how long I had had the Optus number to the JB HiFi salesperson, nor did they ask.
    - I had a bit of trouble finding the customer service number for Telstra as they direct you to their live chat, that is currently suspended, when you try to cancel your account.
    - The Telstra call could have been shorter but I got a bit flustered when the lady on the phone was super concerned with my welfare and what reasons I was cancelling for i.e. covid/unemployment/financial hardship etc. I wasn't going to tell her I just wanted a good phone deal so I made something up and she tried to find options for a cheaper plan etc so I wouldn't get stung with the $390 ETC. Got there in the end though.

Have they issued you the bill yet?

    • Mate how did u get to the ladyon the other side of the phone. I am unable to do it. Can u please direct me. They are always transferring me to messaging app.

      • Tell them you want to cancel, then they have to take the call. Mine was cancelled yesterday and the service is now disconnected but I haven't yet received an invoice.

        • Did they tell u about what cost u could be levied?

        • Did you get an invoice from JB hi fi for the purchase of the phone? Ie an invoice of $900 (even though you didn't need to pay)

    • Do you have the direct customer service number to ring up? I'm trying to see if they're willing to downgrade me to a cheaper plan, happy to keep a 12 month contract at this stage.

      • I called 13 22 00 and followed the prompts. I told the system that I wanted to close my account and it directed me to a person.

        • Have you had the final invoice issued yet? I cancelled mine on Friday yet haven't heard anything since.

          • -2

@Fabio08: It hasnt even been one full business day, calm down.

            • @Ughhh: … and I was told it would arrive within the hour. over the weekend, the number was removed from my account which is why I was asking whether I should have received an invoice at that point in time.

              • @Fabio08: Sorry just saw this. Haven't received anything yet but they told me I would receive the invoice at the end of the month.

  • Everything here relates to the what if purchase of the P30. I'm confused on how this will apply if I purchase a s20 or s20+.
What will the cost look like?

    • +1

Exactly the same if you wish to cancel the plan/contract ($390)

Initial outlay of $599 to JB.

  • +1

purchased from local jb hifi. initially the sale rep said the phone is $499 on top of the 65 monthly plan.

i had to show her the proof then she found out the deal.

purchased an amaysim card, activated on 10 dollars plan. ported over and rang telstra in the parking lot. cancelled the plan and expected $390 ETC + a day use which is $2.72. (maybe)

my mum is enjoying her new phone :)

  • I signed up earlier today also for the p30. I just registered a new number in store which eliminated the need to port from another telco. I'll ring up and cancel in the morning.

  • Thanks OP. Been on the lookout for a good deal for a mid-range phone. This gives me a better phone for an acceptable price.

  • Got one. Thanks OP.
And I was on aldi $25/m deal. But if I want to cancel for 390 it comes down at $32.5/m plus $25/m aldi plan. Which is not much of a saving. So I will stick to 65/m for 12months.

  • I have a mate 20 pro.

Is the camera on the p30 better? $390 is an excellent price and im looking to upgrade the wifes pixel 2 xl.

she just wants an excellent camera to capture memories of our little one.
