FFalcon 55UF1 55” 4K Ultra HD HDR LED Smart TV $498 @ JB Hi-Fi

120

Not a bad price for a 55 inch. Obviously picture quality wouldn't be the best but can't complain for the price. Supports netflix and stan as well.

I got this telly a couple weeks ago for $448 (advertised price)

    Heres my impressions.
    1. they really didn't want to sell this TV - they didn't have it switched on in my local store and they had the wrong price on it ($599). Don't think they make much on them.
    2. Measure your car and make sure you can fit the box. It only just fit in our Kia Rio.
    3. Picture quality is beautiful. Stunning.
    4. Sound is fine. We use external speakers, but the built in seemed fine. Better than my parents Linsar (Good guys budget brand) which was terrible.
    5. Go into settings and turn off the Freeview Plus Hbb. Basically this is like the red button on foxtel, so when you go on to channel 9, it has interative content like catch up etc. Sounds good, but this TV is too slow to properly handle this and it makes it slow having this switched on. It is completely fine and fast when this is switched off. This setting is separate from the Smart TV, so I've got freeview plus off, but I can still access the built in Netflix.
    6. Netflix app works well
    7. I use chromecast for other catch up servies and it works as expected too.
    8. The only average aspect is the brightness. It's sufficient but if you've got it in a really bright room or if you're thinking about putting it outside you'll probably notice its a bit dark. For a normal lounge room its totally fine.

My prepurchase research suggested that ffalcon is owned by TCL which is a major TV brand in Asia. Apparently they have good quality panels and hence the quality of this panel is suppose to be above average for entry level TVs

Overall, we're very happy with this TV and use it everyday as our only TV in the house. Buy on a credit card with extended warranty to extend it from the usual 12 months.

+1. I got the 50" model to wall mount in our main bedroom and only use it at night. Works a treat for what I paid ($348 at the time).

      • how did you get the 55 inch for 450? coz i dont mind going for it if its that price, im done waiting for a ru7100 deal.

        • I got the 50 for 348. It was just the catalogue price at the time.

        • That was the sticker price a couple weeks ago. I'd keep an eye on it if you're only keen at $450, might drop again

          • @sickllama: i see, do you think its worth a shot calling to ask if they could sell it for that price that they had on special before?

            • @striker5950: Always worth a shot! I've bought a couple TVs from JB Hi Fi over the years (Soniq and now FFalcon) and they've never been willing to budge on the budget models, but hopefully you'll have better luck.

I purchased mine 13/04/20 and the price on the website was $448 then. Hope that info helps!

            • @striker5950: It goes down to $448 regularly.

+1 I got the same deal at the same time. Agree with all your points.
Freeview is dodgy on it. The smart aspect is dodgy but good for netflix and stan. Couldnt access a browser in the smart function.
Stack with the Suncorp rewards deal and get a further 5% off. Got it for $425.
      Suncorp rewards was really easy:

      • Hey mate

Awesome comment. I am looking at doing the same as you. I have just created a Suncorp rewards account.
How do I actually buy it though? Do I go in JBHIFI and show them my Suncorp account through my Suncorp app?

        Thanks in advance.

According to whirlpool, this is a rebranded TCL 55p4us.

I finally saw a Ffalcon TV, work got one…. oh boy, on a plain white screen, there were colour and brightness variations all over the place. Yuck!

I dont get why real comments like this only get 1 upvote, but the other dude that praises the tv (probably coming from a 15 year old tv) got 22 upvotes

I own one of these, and just my little review after 1+ Year of use.

The TV is fairly slow and laggy e.g. takes about 10 seconds to turn on and often lag/delay when navigating the menu or pressing buttons on controller such as adjust volume.

Also, my one seems to have a weird bug where sometimes the date/time will reset and nothing really works after that so have to adjust the date/time again, but even more frustrating is sometimes it wont let me even adjust the date/time, it will simply not save the changes so I have to turn off/on tv again which helps most times.

The OS on this is complete garbage, as they have some crappy appstore which does not really have much useful/popular apps on their besides Netflix and Stan. Also there search function in the appstore seems completely useless, results bring up all crap unrelated stuff. It is also missing other popular apps such as Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Plex.

But personally I find picture quality is pretty descent compared to my Samsung series 6 TV.

Overall, its ok TV for the price if you want to use as a bedroom TV, but if its your main TV which you will use regularly I would recommend paying more to get something with better OS and functionality.

    • Apparently you can easily side load amazon prime and Plex.

      • +1

You can't side load apps because this is not an Android tv.

Heard this Ffalcon would be good with a set of extractors, twin pipes & some fats on the back

    • Got this one, reviews seemed the same and 50" for $398 suits us better

  • the aldi one can still be found for $529 in some stores and its 65"

    • +1

that is a linsar aldi branded to its own bauhan brand, its not the same tv, apparently those are the bottom of the barrel, ffalcon is rated higher than aldi and linsar tv's which comes from the same manufacturer. so next up is the tcl made budget brand ffalcon, than tcl, than hisense than you got your big brand names. samsung lg sony etc

      • +1

yea right. the aldi one looks good enough and when i was gonna buy the FFalcon a month ago the jb hifi geek didnt think they were good despite reviews ive seen of them. i like mine better because smart tv's are really slow on budget tvs. i slapped an apple tv with mine and really good for the money

        • I had the same experience with the jb hi fi guy. He wouldn't even turn it on - mumbled something about it. Plus they had a higher price on it in store than online.

They work on commission. They want to sell you the $900 tv not the $500 one! he still recommended new HDMI cables and an extended warranty. I declined.

          • +1

@sickllama: that or they just dont want to move stock for that tv, the act that they do that makes me want to buy one even more.

  • Ffff for Falcons sake !!!
