AMD Yes!

Most of the time nowadays AMD can be a better choice.
But this can be a great choice for some 6-7 gen Intel upgrades or Hackintosh dual boot.
* Mac with AMD can hardly run Adobe software.
* Intel F CPU has issues with encoding/decoding H.24/H.25, FXCP on MacOS even though you have a graphics card mounted.
* This means some guys probably want an Intel processor with integrated graphics.

"But this can be a great choice for some 6-7 gen Intel upgrades or Hackintosh dual boot." Does this drop into those motherboards? I thought you needed a different motherboard for the 9th gen.

    • Officially it's required to get a new mobo, but if you know how to mod z270/z170 then it's fine.

    • The 8th gen used a new socket and I think the 9th gen will drop in to that so you'd be right

        Can confirm it works
Currently have a ASRock z170 gaming k6+ Mobo running 9600k
Flash of the bios and bridge two pins and off you go
        Works flawlessly

Picked one up recently for a little cheaper than this. Upgrade from a 6600K. Easily overclocks to 5Ghz on all cores (1.27v). Not a bad little performer for 1440p gaming (noting most games are GPU bound more so than CPU)

ohhh how the times have changed. The 12 Threads will give you way more future proofing then 6 Threads on intel.. this has been proven all over youtube :) hardware unboxed is a good aussie reviewer to check out

  • Looks good - this or wait for 9700K bargains?!

  • Showing $431 now

  • Gen 10 Intel CPUs have been officially announced so dont worry if you missed out. There will be plenty of more discounts to come as the new range looks like its finally pushing prices down.

If your now thinking of waiting and getting a 10th gen, note that they will use a new socket so it also means a motherboard upgrade.
