TECSBOOK 13" Notebook FHD - Intel I5 7200U - 8GB RAM - 128GB SSD - Bluetooth + Wifi, Windows 10 $999 + Shipping @ Tecs.com.au

I popped into Tecs today (a landmark computer store in Melbourne CBD) to see if they had any good deals and found they were selling a new laptop called a "TECSBOOK" presumably their brand of laptop as it had their logo, it's got decent specs and the price was $500 less than the HP next to it, the guy at the store said it came with a full 1yr warranty and considering Tecs has been around since 1991 that's pretty decent, he said I could find more info about it on their website and I thought it was worth posting.

What makes it even sweeter is you can trade-in your old laptop/PC and get a discount, they accept Paypal and zip pay so you don't even have to pay it off all at once.

I picked it up and it was pretty light, it felt like about 1.5kg max.

I also saw this for sale in store:

I can confirm that the sticker said it was i7 8th gen not 6th gen as it says in the description but it's probably best to call them about it before ordering.

I'm not associated with tecs I just saw this deal and thought it was worth posting

What!! that looks like such poor value compared with this deal which expired just yesterday

wow, this is a great deal, it is a bit different to compare a retail store to an online one however but it's coming direct from dell so why not

    7 series cpu

rememeber how 10th gen i3 cpus beat 7th gen i5s and the whole chassis uses less power?

    yeh

Bought an acer swift 14 for $999, sorry but this doesn't look like a very good deal

  • +1

seems expensive for a 7th gen i5 chip….i mean, aren't we in the 10th iteration? and ram and SSD size seems…like nothing to write home about? I don't know…just appears like you could get a HP, Dell, etc, basic and on sale for a similar price but with a better CPU

What a rip off! $999 for a 7th Gen Dual Core CPU. You can get a current gen AMD or Intel based quad core CPU, with more SSD space, in a name brand laptop that will blow this CPU out of the water. There have been other users posting the Lenovo deal, with a quad core AMD Ryzen CPU, that is cheaper than this no name brand and will eat this CPU for breakfast.

  • thing is 7th gen cpu units are coming out of 3yr lease

i can see the rationalisation where you pay less for an older model with an older cpu like the HP x360 but yeah…. today's prices for 3yr old cpus??? hard to justify

this sort of thing might fly in harvey norman or jb…

    • Unlikely it will fly in HN and JB. Before COVID-19 the clearance table in some JB stores used to have laptops with these specs sitting there for years.

    $999??
Did you accidentally enter 9? Not 6?

    • +2

Honestly wouldn't even be considered good value at $699 given the hardware.

  • +9

came with a full 1yr warranty

Wow incredible, are you sure it's 1 full year? Hard to believe

Honestly this laptop config i would not buy even at $500.
    I bought a dell G3 at $899 with i5 9550H 8gb ram 512gb ssd, and a GTX 1650gb. Cheaper tha. This deal.

    No deal.

At least 3 years late on this post OP….

    no thunderbolt no deal!

Just an Alibaba generic with their own logo slapped onto it. Though Kogan are no different with their laptops either.

    Generic product, short warranty period.
Unclear product description - three different generations of CPU listed on your second listing.
This isn't great value compared to other B&M stores.

Is that really what the sales person tried to steer you towards?

    Hmmm……

    • If he was, he's not a very good salesman

  • Poorly specced for the price, even if everything is currently inflated.

Also, their logo is a rip off of Intel's old logo.

  • 7200U should be sold in an antique store. You can’t find any new laptop that’s inferior to this one nowadays.

You can buy an 8th Gen Lenovo Thinkbook 13s with 512GB SSD for $1049 that comes with Windows 10 Pro, biometrics and better I/O, weighing at 1.32KG.

or people that are looking for even smaller display, get the ThinkPad A285 (12.5" FHD, R5 2500U quad core APU, 256GB/16GB) for $970

Looking at reverse image search this laptop looks like one of those unknown brands sold on Aliexpress but usually specced with extremely budget chipsets (think N4000 Celeron series). I'd say they would have skimped greatly on the build quality (e.g low-res webcam, touchpad will be generic and not support Windows Precision touchpad drivers, thermal solution may be sub-par). You also don't know if the screen is a IPS panel or something else.

  • “ he said I could find more info about it on their website”

So you bought a laptop that the salesman knew so little about that he directed you to their website?

    Righto…
