Dodo uses Optus.

No data, but $10 gets you 2gb.
It might suit people that have dual sim phones (I will use in my iPhone, with an esim that gives me data)

Sorry, my question is for someone who had experience with them. Not you.

        • sorry did I say I have no experience? You need a specsavers deal now mate.

          • @Maxxjet: Sorry, whatever it is, not for you.

Its not as bad as what people online say. I’m with them and I’m pretty impressed that their contact centre is up and running without a long queue in the middle of a pandemic. Call centre’s offshore tho but most telcos have this setup.

      • +1

No long queue because the don't have many customers… And the ones that are on don't have a service :P

  • LOL. No data!

Have been using Kogan Mobile or Catch Connect for the past months with 40 or 20 GB data for $5!

    • Isn't that a discounted rate for one month only? And then you have to port out every month for ever?

      • +1

Yes, port. No problem for me.

        Every 3 months usually

This $5 plan ONLY accepts payment via Direct Debit

Is there a risk of Dodo charging EXCESS Data Usage charges as none are included and excess data usage charges are $10 per 1 GB ??

    • +2

That was probably their intention when they decided to offer this plan for $5. It is so easy to turn on data from control centre without realising especially for the elderly.

      • +1

That's the question. Even if I turn on mobile data on my phone, do Dodo need to 'activate' the data component on the $5 plan on their back-end before I start getting charged ?

It would be good to know from anyone currently using this $5 plan.

    Nothing new about this deal
    Been around for yonks
Works out very expensive if data is accidentally triggered.

As will all Dodo offerings there is always a catch
Stay well away from anything Dodo

    • I use it as my secondary SIM for work in my dual SIM phone. It’s perfect for my uses.

  • Dodo’s customer service is very rude based on my experience (multiple times). So if you buy their products you’d better manage your expectations.

  • This is an old deal, maybe extended…

    • This is an ongoing deal, reposted to just make people who didn’t know aware.

  • These cheap $9 button 3G mobiles are useful also as I keep one in my cars glove box as you can dial on these mobiles without a plan or sim to emergency 000 service, battery last months dare i say years if you keep it switched off, yes yes we carry our mobiles on us at all times but imagine if you have an accident in no were land and your mobile gets damaged in the accident, dare I say you can't get out of your vehicle also, certainly a thought for the cost of $9

    • it's a very good tip.

also, i think once a 2-year period is up, Telstra phones can be unlocked for free.
(i'm not sure about this, but i've seen it happen)

  • I checked the Critical Information Summary
    —> https://www.dodo.com/sites/dodo/files/cis/Mobile_Critical_in…

I don't see information, about which International countries are included for SMS?

Is it all countries or just the selected countries, that Optus "allows"?

  • the $5/month calls and text only plan does not includes any international calls

  • signed up for this well over a month ago, tried activate the sim card around 3 weeks ago.

I originally wanted to port a Crazytel (voip) DID mobile number in, because it was a kinda cool easy to remember number. I was unable to port as Dodo required that I verify an OTP code that they send to the number, to confirm that it's belongs to me
and that it is currently active. As my Crazytel account balance is currently empty unfortunately I'm unable to receive sms. tried using the activation webpage and then called the dodo help centre and they confirmed the port is impossible without the OTP.

So I instead chose to port my current main daily use mobile number over from Circles Life, which is technically post paid even though they demand their money a month in advance…. I received the OTP code fine, dodo then charged my debit card the $5 before they attempt the port. My Circles Life account number shown on my statement contains a combination of alphabet and numeric characters, when I read it out Dodo told me it had to be numbers only. So they entered the numbers only into their system. Entered the rest of my details and they told me the port should go through shortly.

I got an sms saying the port failed due to my info not matching, so I called them back and told them all the info is correct, however the account number has letters in it and that maybe they are necessary. They sent and had me confirm a new OTP before attempting the port again. Again I got an sms saying port failed for info mismatch.

I spoke to Circles Life and they confirmed that the letters are definitely required as part of the account number. They gave me a direct phone number for their internal tech team for me to pass on to my new provider's porting team if they have any further issues. I called Dodo again and relayed the info I'd been told. They said they would push it through again and I should be receiving a text shortly, through my current provider, right before the service shuts off and switches over to dodo. Told me I can use my sim as usual up until then. This time they didn't ask for an OTP first. I explained that I hoped to be moved over by the end of the month as I wanted to avoid starting a new billing cycle with Circles Life as it was costing too much and I could no longer afford it.

I waited a couple of days, didn't hear anything from them at all, called back, (I have to explain whole situation each time I call, the rep who answers at first is never able to help my problem but insists I provide every detail name DOB address phone number, problem.. even sometimes starts questioning what providers other people in my household currently use and if they wish to also switch to dodo… all this bEFORE they will transfer me to the activation team… where I usually most repeat the questionnaire.)
They say my request is still active, and will be completed by "the end of business hours today". I was told this Friday 3 July.. still nothing by midday the following Monday. So called back and they said the same thing "end of business today". Over a week later still nothing.

Have now sent them a message via their online help, yesterday. No response yet. Will see what happens. I understand the "you get what you pay for" thing, this plan is super cheap, but I wish they'd just tell me to get lost or something rather than repeatedly insisting that it'll be done "by end of business today". Skeptical that they've even been trying after my last few calls, considering they didn't request OTPs again nor did I get failure notification texts.

    • Though who's fault is it? Circles Life cause they have letters in there postpaid account or Dodo for not being able to handle letters in an account number?

Honestly,. I just ported out off a Lyca postpaid plan to prepaid Belong which went very smoothly,.. but honestly I can't remember if the account number was all numeric, so wondering if having letters in a postpaid account number could be an issue with other telco providers when porting

Well certainly thanks for posting your issues with Circle Life and Dodo,.. I'll certainly will remember your post when porting over from one provider to another
