Sony KD65A8G 65" OLED TV $3995.00 @ The Good Guys

71

Small special on this TV for 1 week.

I believe the panel in this TV is similar to the 2019 LG C9.

A8G is a rip off, no eARC and only 2 out of the 4 HDMI ports support 4K. Also built in Android hardware is already slow and obsolete.

Do yourself a favour and get the LG instead.

    • The thing is, there are hardly any oled TV's available anymore, let alone affordable ones. I think at $4k, this is pretty poor value, but try find one for less…

Im pretty sure some people Whirlpool have been able to get the 65 inch CX for <4k .

Its the wrong time in the cycle to buy a bargain unless you get lucky. Majority of last years stock has now been sold and the new models have only just hit the market. Also who knows how the stock levels will be with CV19

The LG C9 is probably the better display esp for console gaming (refresh rate). The C9 is available now and then for < $3K.

    • I'd def go for the LG's with G-Sync, they'll probably be the more valuable ones on the used market in a couple years.

    • I am currently looking for a 65 C9 for <=$3k, but can't find one. Any directions will be helpful! :-)

      Thank you

April post, not marked as expired, might be in-store only. They're this price every other month it seems. I bought mine in Dec for IIRC $2,750 delivered from TGG, though shipping was delayed to Jan. Been using it since then, nice display.

        • Thanks DevGuy,

Yes, seen that one, unfortunately, the stock are long gone. :-(

Not sure how to mark it as expired though.

$2,750 is a bloody good price when you see that they are still listed at $3,500 on the TGG. Might have to be patient and wait for nice sales on the CX in November / December.

  • poor value compared to an LG

Just a heads up for anyone considering this…

Despite being a current model, Sony will not be upgrading this model to Android Pie. This is due to the older Mediatek SOC they used. Only the A9G and other models which uses a newer Mediatek SOC will get Android Pie (that includes some older 2018 models as well).

    • So it's ancient technology, sold at a similar price to the latest models.
To be honest, given that tv's (especially high-end ones like this) should realistically be expected to be used for 5+ years (or 10+ years in my case), I really don't see the point of having Android integrated into it. Chromecast, yes. But a full-blown Android system that within years will receive no updates or security patches and risks becoming a major security vulnerability in your home-network…..

I wish they sold dumb oled tv's without speakers in them at an affordable price, for people who already have the whole setup and just need a screen.

  • For those who are not following OLED prices religiously, this was selling for $4,495 a couple of days ago. That was the same price as the LG CX, you could argue that at the same price noone would go for the Sony…

So now at approx 10% off, the Sony is giving you a reason (it's cheaper!) to purchase it over the LG.

    • $4495 is well above the RRP of $3995 for this model.

TGG is basically selling this at Sony's RRP lol

      • Maybe Sony reduced the RRP? Which means this isn't a sale but merely an RRP adjustment.

But yeah, if TGG was selling above RRP that would be pretty bad form…

JB also "reduced" the price to $3,995.
