I mean, there was an attempt and it is cheap.

… But it's only about $8 cheaper than local stock
    https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/QKJtt6/amd-ryzen-7-3700x…

Shopping express had this for under $500 last week.

    • $20 cheaper than the cheapest on PCPartPicker, and they're all plus postage.

Paid like $460 on launch day, these increases are so crappy.

    • I used a gift card and paid 425, sold the cooler, total $400 lol

Just a public notice, all computer parts are essentially 10-30% up on feb prices so I'd wait out upgrading for a while.

If you are upgrading your existing build, AMD announced that there new 4th gen chips will require a 570/550 board or higher. I didn't buy it at a "ozbargain" price but I went and got 3900x after I read that.

So for a lot of people, getting something from the current line up might be the best CPU they'll ever be able to get before upgrading motherboard.

    • Im thinking to upgrade my 7yo PC, so should I get one soon or wait for 4th gen ?

      • Depends if you want one soon or you want to wait. But even if you get a 550 or 570 motherboard, I thought that the AM4 cpu socket (Ryzen 1st gen through to the upcoming 4th) is being retired after 4th gen so even if you get the newest latest motherboard, your upgrade options are still pretty limited. And I don't see PCIE4 being important for at least a few more generations of graphics cards.

        • So when this 4th gen CPU will available on the market. Im thinking to buy a decent system that can last at least 7yrs. Im using i5 3750k mixed RAM and it is playing up alot lately …

          • @frewer: You could get a x570 and 3300x if you wanted to upgrade cheaper now then get a 4700x when their prices drop a little.

            • @thorman: Thx but I dont like that idea of mucking around with the build. Im time poor. I will wait.

    Chip v price per core
    3600 6c = $50
    3700 8c = $64
    3900 12c = $59

down to 483 on amazon now, not bad. not sure what extra hoops you'd jump through for warranty though

  • $483 is a good price
