  • ugly phone but it is cheap

Apparently makes a good HTPC remote including keyboard action.

  • Bad deal. 2.6" 320 x 240 screen. Android 2.1

Much better of paying $98 for an INQ Cloud Touch.

With the Acer Liquid MT only $128 unlocked and Gingerbread, I can't imagine why anyone would settle for a lesser Android phone.
The difference is peanuts compare to call costs over the life, and the time you spend using a smartphone.
except … no hardware keyboard I just realised will stop some people.

      • Neither are really ideal, being that the Liquid Metal doesn't support the 900MHz meaning little coverage in rural areas and you won't be able to use Optus's new 900MHz network.

meaning little coverage in rural areas

Not quite true. It just means you go to 2G/Edge rather than 3G.
As a city dweller, I'd much rather have 850Mhz for NextG and Voda.

A quad band 3G would be better, but how much is the Galaxy S2 again?

        • Yeah.. I don't understand why Optus 900Mhz is so important. Surely at the rural areas, you would rather have Telstra NextG (850Mhz) than Optus 900Mhz.

I cannot imagine Optus having better coverage than Telstra in rural areas.

  • is it 3g or 2g? can you upgrade it to Android 2.2 or 2.3?

  • +1

Specs says 3G only 900 Mhz bandwidth? Which KINDA equates to pretty much Optus lock doesn't it?

    • Vodafone are also 900MHz 3G

    • 900-only would be useless. All 3G phones do 2100 MHz band. The 900 is an extra.

And if you want Voda in the city, you should get a 850/2100 phone. Are they still putting in new 900MHz cells anywhere?

    3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100

    • Hmmm. Bright yellow and lime versions it seems. Ooooh yeah! Shame the one for sale is gray. :/

    • the discombobulated panda

      LOL nice username.

  • I think everything about this phone can be summed up in one sentence;

    ~7 hours battery life

    W. T. F.

  • Great phone for people who appreciate the keyboard. There's a working version of CM7 for it (Although it still suffers from a few quirks), but the full keyboard is surprisingly good and for Google Talk chatting it's a perfect little device.
Also has a regular 3.5mm headphone jack, which is nice.

  • Perfect phone for clubbing and travel trips! I've just picked one up, hope it turns up before my Bali trip next weekend!

    • perfect for clubbing? hunh?

      • +1

        From the free online dictionary:
        1. To strike or beat with or as if with a club.
        2. To use (a firearm) as a club by holding the barrel and hitting with the butt end.
        3. To gather or combine (hair, for example) into a clublike mass.
        4. To contribute to a joint or common purpose.

kudoz going to Bali soon so I assumed he need a Huwei for some sort of protection?

        • Oh lol, makes sense as a weapon - I thought as in for a night out on the town, you know as in We're going clubbing at <venue> tonight.

        • +1

"4. To contribute to a joint"

Is that term used in Scotland? Thats the only time someone has asked me to contribute to a joint, Scottish chick of course, but she didn't use the term "clubbing", she just said "lets have some weed" then "you got any?".

        • dear lord people, lol, don't you get out of the house!? I mean great for taking with you as a temporary phone when you might have a big night resulting in loss of said phone etc… ditto with travelling!

        • great for taking with you as a temporary phone

No, $20 nokia will be better for that. And go a week or two on a charge.

      • "don't you get out of the house!?"

But then I'll miss a deal on ozbargain :(

        lol

  • What the hell.

Why pay $16 more for unlocked? Ultra easy to unlock! In fact my Optus one was unlocked from the beginning.

    • how can you unlock the optus 1???

  • mine turned up today and interestingly appears to be sim locked… wonder what mobicity will have to say about that, lol
