  • Any minimum period i have to go with them for?

Cashback may take up to 180 days to be confirmed by EnergyAustralia.

Kind of kills the deal lol

        • True. I will definitely end up paying more than $110 worth of premium to EA over ReAmped Energy in 6 months, before I could move back to ReAmped or anywhere else.

  • Does this also work for their 'ON' brand?

  • how are their prices for electricity and gas compared to other retailers?

    • +1

Surprisingly, not absurd. You can check it before signing up. The $200 really sweetens the deal.

    • +2

For SEQ their rates are a fair bit higher that kills the cashback very quickly.

      • that's what I suspected. Amaysim had similar deal last year and their bonus wasn't worth higher fees…thanks.

    • They're one of the cheapest for my neighborhood lol (at least for our usage pattern).

    • +1

i just moved off them their rates aren't the cheapest

    • I did some calculations roughly using 'average household' and it turned out a bit more expensive than origin maximum saver plan. So if I add in my real usage (above average) then it would be more expensive. Therefore this $200 wouldn't offset the higher rates.

    • how are their prices for electricity and gas compared to other retailers?

They can't tell you, prices are dynamic.

According to ACCC, most Australian's have no idea what they're buying when they purchase electricity which is by design.

  • Thanks OP - was waiting for this deal. Origin upped their pricing on me so time to jump ship

    • I calculated this against the origin max saver plan and origin still looked cheaper? Different with yours?

      • +1

Yeah different for me. Energy Australia is cheaper in my situation

  • Damn, just switch to them last week :'(

    • 10-day cooling off period gone?

  • literally switched to dodo last week.

  • +8

I suggest people compare the rates and fees. The costs may outweigh the benefits for some.

    • +1

Comparing rates, fees and terms and conditions takes hours for one retailer. Naturally people will compare many retailers and waste many hours.

For some reason crayon munching people say that this is "better customer service" compared to nationalised electricity where the customer never wasted hours of their life.

      • If you upload the electricity usage data file to the Vic comparison website, it literally takes seconds to give you the list of cheapest electricity plans.

  • What the solar fit?

  • +2

I used the Vic energy compare website to find the cheapest rate and get a $50 one off rebate. Then I searched the cheapest companies in cash rewards and got $112 cashback through the energy compare company on there who offered the same deal as the Vic compare website. Not much as the $200 cashback here but worked out better given the cheaper rates.

    • Which company

      • Energy Compare. I used Tango so can search that too but it seems to go through the Energy Compare site too.

  • I'm with AGL and my account is in credit after the QLD government rebate, any idea if I will lose that credit if I transfer to another provider (I can't withdraw it to my bank account given that it is from the government rebate)

    • They will pay outstanding $$ to your bank account.

  • exclude Solar… ouch!
with the current buyback rate (and the CR incentive) so tempt to sign up without disclosing solar lol

  • Has anyone’s purchase tracked already?

    • Last time, mine tracked 3 days after sign up. Not 100% sure, but I think you need to sign up to the plan that is linked from the CR page.

      • Yeh I clicked through Shop Now.

        • I mean you might have to sign up to the plan that is on the page linked from CR and not another EA plan.

          • @skid: Mine just tracked today. It says estimated approval date is 18 Nov. does that mean I need to stay with them that long?

  • "Cashback is not available on solar electricity plans"
    I feel discriminated against …

    • I reckon this will catch a few people out

  • Great deal, I sign up my ele now.
Better rate than others and good cashback.

    Isn't this a Chinese company?

    • +2

Who cares? It’s free money regardless of source.

  • +1

For Ausgrid area, please be aware that EnergyAustralia charges peak rate at 40+ cents throughout the whole year. Some retailers only charge peak rates across winter and summer.

  • +1

Unfortunately in an embedded network but would have loved to take advantage of this

  • +1

    Hong Kong owned co.

And one of Australia’s largest “tax avoiders” https://thenewdaily.com.au/finance/finance-news/2019/03/18/t…

If shopping around for providers, which so few people do anyway, this is something else to consider if you can afford it.

I Put tax avoiders in quotes as I can’t remember what the polite term is for the annual list of shitty companies the ato publishes that pay comparatively little to no tax in Australia.

  • +1

Anyone switching power/gas companies just for the signup bonus should look at Powershop. They have 200 if you do both atm, credited within 90 days, no need for cashback.

    • No contract? In Melb, it's cold and my energy bill is going to be scary

      • Me too. I feel that I am paying lot more than the average rate in winter times compared to other households. Normally what is the average bill comes for winter months for someone who uses electricity for all heating?

        • "4 people" worth but it's really just the two of us.

    • Doesn't seem available on their website. Would u mind providing a link?

  • -1

Is this owned by the CCP?

  • +1

I've checked recently. EA's gas price is good. Electricity tends to come back best with Reamped. $50 sign up bonus, use link from Ozbargain, and both referrer and referee get $50. Pretty good.

  • I just signed up with Nectr for $200 egiftcard

  • +1

Never received previous bonus from October and cash rewards make it impossible to track old claims… I’d suggest monitoring your cashback

  • do not give this company any of your money
    https://www.michaelwest.com.au/energyaustralia-holdings-limi…

Electricity and gas bills have doubled. Pay for executives and directors has shot up. Some 42,000 Australians live in energy poverty. This, once a state-owned enterprise, now has a parent company in a Caribbean tax haven and pays zero tax

  • Does it stack with $50 credit offered by EA?

    • +2

When clicking through the cashrewards link it indicates you will recieve a $50 credit on your first bill.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just signed up for their Gas plan. Calculated I will save about $400 over the next 6 months (including the $50 EA rebate and $90 Cashrewards).

  • Compared to Lumo, how bad is Energy Australia? Like a pot and a kettle?

  • +2

Thanks for posting OP. While I couldn't take advantage of the deal (having signed to EA last year with a similar cashback deal), it prompted me to review my rates.

Did research on competitors and called up EA to review my account, they ended up offering me rates on both elec & gas that were competitive amongst best in the market (elec actually beat Reamped). Should save about $60 per bill from now!

  • Hi OP, any sign of this deal coming back…especially the gas cashback

    • +1

Seems to run about once a month.

  • It's open again, however now $70 for electricity and $40 for gas. Not limited to just Energy Australia, other providers available through Econnex.

  • Nectr now have a refer a friend program so you get a $200 giftcard to sign up, plus $50 credit after you pay your first bill, plus 50 for referrals, plus 50 after 12 months
