What can I do with this? Turn on radio, Check weather and whatelse?

Use mine to play music, control my media center and control smart plugs.

So I need to carry this in home?

Yes, make sure you buy the previous deal for 40m extension cord at Bunnings.

  • Is this model getting discontinued?

    • You'd think so. I thought it would have been superseded a long time ago.

  • How much better does this sound than a Nest Mini?

    • +2

Best minis are actually pretty good aren't they… I was going to upgrade from the original mini too the home but the free nest mini sounded good enough that I never bothered. The Home is better but considering I got 2 little kids yapping over the music I couldn't be bothered.

It gets louder than the Nest Mini before distortion kicks in, not that I've ever cranked mine up to max before. It also has richer bass. If you're space-constrained, the Nest Mini might be a good choice. Then there's money to be saved.

    • This has heaps better sound than the mini without a doubt but bear in mind it's something you're not going to use for a party

      • Make sure you are talking about the home mini and not the nest mini. As the people above know there is a noticeable difference in the sound quality despite the fact that the nest mini looks identical to its predecessor the home mini.

If you were in the market for your first device I would probably go for this at 77, but upgrading I would say is a less clear decision to make

        • I've got both a Home mini and a Nest Mini. Definite step up in quality with the Nest. Still, the bass is weak. I'm tempted to pick up the best in the Google family of smart speakers.. the Home Max recently seen on ozb for around $180. I strongly suspect that there is a Home max successor around the corner, based on the sharp discounts (rrp $399!)

        • Yes sorry i was referring to the home mini

    • Louder and more boomy. But muddled and lacking trebble compared to second generation Home/Nest Mini.

Personally I can't stand the sound quality of my Google home and replaced it with a JBL Link 300. Difference of night and day in sound quality. Best option is to hook up a mini to Edifier Bluetooth speakers.

Have you guys experienced Google home devices DDOS your home wifi?

    • +2

Yes once way back, they had a bug which was fixed.. must be ~2 years ago or so

      • that's good to hear. I still see some people complain even to a few weeks back, which is why I didn't opt for Google :(. Another reason is I can't pronounce "google" very well. If they change its trigger word, I will jump ship! :D

  • I'm guessing that this is the Australian model?
