  • Anyone tried these?

    • Yeah, pretty good, 2 precooked duck legs for $7, can't complain

    • Yes, I heat them under the grill, perfectly crispy skin. Yumm! Long best before too (3 months or more usually), I'll grab a few packs again this time.

  • +4

In Feb I think when this deal was on previously, I approached the shelves, saw one pack left, was after two, hesitated, and someone else swooped in and took it. No problem, I thought, I'll get a rain check. So I did. Then COVID-19 hit, no duck, and no rain checks honoured.

Thanks OP, hopefully I'll get some this time!

  • Good recipes?

    • +1

It's precooked. Just reheat, use the sauce to sauté vegetable of your choice, add mashed/roasted potatos. Tasted pretty good.

      • Is one leg enough for one serving?

Edit, just noticed the pack is 500 grams.

        • +1

It is pretty rich. Plenty for me. Protein hounds may want more.

  • Are they boneless?

    • They are legless.

      • -1

        they are 2 legful

      • So are they marinated with wine?

        • Slow cooked in oil

    • The bones are not removed. However, the meat is supposed to fall off the bone, as it is slow cooked for a long time in fat.

      • Thank you!

Sound like true cannibalism tips. Scary

@nagev5 Just shhh mate!! No-one asked you to come to a post on ducks and shove your vegan theories down our throats

          • @barozgain: There's one on every thread.

          • @barozgain: You literally pay someone to shove a knife to slash open animal's throat. Inconvenient truth is what I post here, you can stay ignorant about it or actually look into what are you supporting by attacking vegans

  • Thanks guys, I'll give them a go. Does everyone prefer the grill method of heating them up?

    • If you want crispy skin, it's the way to go. Other ways to get the same effect - but I do like anything that results in the combination of crispy skin and melt-in-the-mouth leg meat.

      • +1

Cheers mate, I'll give it a rip.

  • What products do y'all omit from an Online order?
I presume Fruit/veg and meats to be picked in person?
    Any else

  • This, or Coles' whole duck?

    • If you want a quick meal get these, if you want to spend time in the kitchen and save money get the whole duck.

      • +1

Financially not as much of a saving as one might think when looking at the pack weights (500g vs 2.1kg). I reckon a whole duck will yield only about twice the edible meat compared to these.

For me it mostly comes down to the choice between breasts and legs, I love them both, at different times :-)

        • +2

For me, the $11.50 whole duck makes -
          2x meals from legs
2x meals from wings and the neck,
          ~3x meals from breasts
2x litres of broth from the frame/offcuts and wing tips, 1 litre gets turned in into duck noodle soup for my wife and the other half I drink just as a “clear broth”

The $7 confit legs makes -
          2x meals

          • @mapax:

2x meals from wings and the neck,

Really? What sort of 2-serving meal would that be?

            • +2

@kiitos: I leave a little of the flesh from the breast and back, not that there’s much on the back. It looks messy but is usually enough for me to eat one wing and the neck, while my wife will have the other wing served on a few cups of salad, avocado, a few walnuts and a dressing made from apple or raspberry cider vinegar.

Having a low carb diet means fairly small appetite for both of us.

  • Confit is a traditional French cooking method in which duck legs are salted and cooked in fat, which preserved them in the days before refrigeration. The cured legs are cooked for a long time at a low temperature which results in extremely tender meat that falls easily off the bone

    • How do we reheat before eating?

      • Regular instructions on packet ranging from microwave to grilling (better of course).

Can one Luv a Duck and kill a duck? http://killaduck.com/ watch the expose from this facility.

  • These are really good, wish I bought more than 1 last time they were on sale.

The best before date was pretty lengthy too from memory.

    • -3

http://killaduck.com/ watch the expose from this facility. Is this what you are defending?

      • Can you please provide a few key points.

        • -1

          Watch the video on http://killaduck.com
If your stomach is happy to ingest it, your eyes should be fine to watch it too.

          • @nagev5: Mate I've never eaten duck, your attitude isn't very helpful. I gave you an opportunity to provide some information.

            • @cruiseronroad: Did you watch the investigation video from that exact facility?

              • @nagev5: No, and I don't need to visit bestgore either to know that war is bad.

I didn't realise you didn't want to have an actual discourse, but it seems you only want to throw around your video. I'm sure you feel nice and self-righteous but you should know you're not being as useful for the cause as you could be.

Here we are two comments later and you haven't made any points as to the contents of the video? Did you consider that maybe I cannot watch video for whatever reason? That perhaps I have to hear your weak arguments through a speaker instead of read them through a screen?

                • @cruiseronroad: Wilful ignorance is bliss right? Don't worry though, you're in majority. Australia - a nation of animal lovers, where some species are destined for a lifelong exploitation and torture, only to be killed and have their dead bodies dismembered to be ingested by the people, because they like the taste of it.
Discrimination continues, only in a different form. And until you admit to yourself that there's no a right way to do the wrong thing, there's no point in having a conversation with you, especially on ethics.

Did in airfryer for 3mins preheat, 8mins 180C and 10mins 200C. Would just do ~8mins 200C (or maybe higher) next time for crispier skin.

  • Couldn’t find in Auburn or Parramatta stores.

  • I found some just now in Oakleigh Woolworths. Not sure why it was still on sale, last packet!

  • Seems that this is not expired - just not enough stock on shelves. Got 2 packs at WW Kew tonight.

  • Deal ongoing for another week.
    Just restock at WW glen
