Are iPad pros still way better than these?

    • I wouldn't buy these unless you have access to EPP

    • +1

      Personal preferences.

If you're already invested in the Apple Ecosystem (Macbook, iPhone, iMac, etc), then iPad is the obvious choice.

    • +12

      Yes, and no.

The S6 is better for "editing" documents and watching 1440p Youtube in HDR (sort of HDR, it's got a good ratio and brightness/support for HDR in Netflix/YouTube).

The S6 keyboard case is absolutely needed, because you'll never find it after a while, and it's still better than paying $300+ for an ipad keyboard case with a terrible keyboard, but compulsory "experience".

DeX mode is incredible for usability, having android apps work in draggable or tiled windows is a game-changer for Android, as much as using Android on a TV or a speaker/hub device.

      Versus…

The 120hz ipad pro is extremely nice, and the pen works smoothly and fluidly for designing. But the media support is meh, and you have to spend on Apple tech to really take advantage.

I have the 12.9" and it's incredible… at some things. If I plug a USB-C thumb drive, I can now open photos and documents. But, I couldnt format or edit a text file easily without trying 30+ IOS Apps to figure out how to export or get the edited file back onto the USB again.

I can print a PDF or render a 4k video, or edit a PDF with photos and drawings, but struggle to open a RAR file or open 2 windows without the ipad wanting to reboot or kill both apps, sic.

In terms of value, the S6 is by far the best android tablet. But the ipad pro just thrashes the S6, they are simply over geared and over priced. But, in a years time, the ipad pro is going to be used over and over, while the Tab S6 can only last as long as Samsung supports updates (apps occasionally need tweaks to work in Dex windowed modes)

If you play movies and YouTube, the S6 or S6 Lite, especially with headphones or travelling. If you want games or travel, or you're invested in Apple, ie Airpods or iPhone, or Watch, or all of the above, ipad pro.

So the Tab S6 can do almost anything, but it's still slow, and it's still Android. While the ipad Pro is almost good at everything, but it's actually a very small list and you'll often be expected to buy a $2 to $15 game or $4 app, or its just been banned from iTunes years ago, and there's no alternatives.

~6 months after launch, little has changed here, except a new ipad pro came out, and the S6 Lite may end up cancelling future S6 updates by dint of the S6 no longer being the flagship any more.

      • Would be interesting to compare both of them against Microsoft Surface Go / Pro, with each having their pros and cons.

I have the first gen 12.9" ipad pro and the tab s6 and also a Surface Pro 2.
The Surface Pro is good if you want and need windows but mine is very old now and feels sluggish and heats up a lot.
I tried to use the ipad with a keyboard and mouse and the pencil but I hate the iOS UI and couldn't effectively multitask well. DEX on the Tab S6 is superb and feels like Windows but has the added benefits of running nicely polished Android apps. Been using the Tab S6 since it launched and it functioned well enough to use as my sole device working in IT in a non technical role. I also used a type C hub so I could plug in a monitor. The Tab S6 is also a better screen ratio for multitasking than the ipad. The 12.9 ipad is far too big to be portable as well. Not great for commuting.

  • Made for Australia is not an excuse for charging more.

Having used Tab S4 and IPad Pro 11, I can safely say, in terms of files access, S4 wins hands down, however, in terms of silky smoothness, and Mac Side car support, IPad Pro wins by miles. Screen wise, while Samsung has a AMOLED, but with my untrained eye, can't really tell the difference. Love the smoothness on the IPad. I guess the Tab S4 is limited by SD835 Processor and 4GB RAM, which Tab S6 actually more powerful and has more RAM.

  • Can you use these things as an actual mobile phone, and connect a laptop to the interet as well?

    • Do you mean make phone calls or do you mean use one as a hotspot for internet access?

      • both, and receive calls.

        • +2

you'd want the LTE version then. Not wifi

          • @10101010101: You can still call and text on the wifi version by using call and message continuity. It only works with certain Samsung phones that can be connected to the tab, it's a great feature that not many may be aware of.

            • @Ronnnie: Oh yes. I've used this before with my Note 10+ linked to the Tab S6. My Tab S6 is LTE but only with a data SIM so I haven't tried actual calls direct from the tab.

  • Regarding OP's "PS" - Unfortunately the $50 voucher does not apply to the Samsung Education Store. Tried it myself.

    • From Past Samsung Education Store deals, some user were successful in using the $50 off Voucher.

      • +2

Yep it works now after someone else said I need to sign up in the Education Store.
