  • Could this be used as a media server?

    • Would be perfectly fine for Direct streaming. Would be able to handle 2-3 1080p transcodes, and a single 4k transcode at max.

    • overkill for media, when a low-power silent fanless ARM device could do the job.
But great as a general purpose PC, or games with a low-profile video card added.

Would be good if you put the full specs in the post. Copied them here from the ebay page:

      NEW 240GB SSD / NEW 480GB SSD
      500GB HDD (2nd Storage) BONUS

So it includes TWO SSD's plus a 500 GB HDD ?

  • +2

You choose the ssd size in the options in the listing. The larger size is $50 more. So two drives per unit, not 3.

    • +1

      isn't the BX500 a crappy SSD?

might as well save the money and buy your own SSD

    • Since both hardware options are listed in the title, both prices should also be in the title.

  • If I add a graphics card would this be able to play most games with decent fps? eg. dota or CS

    • Probably have to be a low profile card and also consider power supply

      • and the form factor - used to have a SFF Optiplex which was a pain to do any sort of upgrades.
Sold that and replaced it with a MT. Much better (and bigger) - way easier to upgrade

        • What is MT ? I'm not familiar. I was looking at these and other similar re-furbished PC's .
Not sure what to buy as a desperate budget buy for a computer to work with from home - via network to office.
My 8yr old i3 Laptop may die any time soon, and I need to Back Up all my stuff on Drive + Win 10.
Thinking of getting Acronis Back Up - to simplify process and create a disk to transfer all data onto next PC, if that's possible ?

  • No support for HDMI is a bit suprising

    • +4

For a HP business desktop? Nah. They put Display Port on everything.

    • +1

Yes support. DP supports HDMI. You just need a $2 adapter, or the right cable.

      • only dp++ can use cheapo passive adapter

        • Interesting, I've never had a problem. googling …

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#DisplayPort_dual-mode_(DP++)

"Dual-mode is an optional feature, so not all DisplayPort sources necessarily support DVI/HDMI passive adapters, though in practice nearly all devices do. Officially, the "DP++" logo should be used to indicate a DP port that supports dual-mode, but most modern devices do not use the logo."

        • p.s. - i see active converters are only $10 anyway, but believe passive will work here.

    • dell optiplex sff also no hdmi

      • Chuck a low profile 1050ti to get HDMI L dual HDMI going

        • If all you want is dual hdmi, use adapters or DP->hdmi cables on the DP ports.
Note you cannot use integrated and add-on graphics at the same time on optiplex, and I assume on these? (similar Intel chipsets)

  • anybody knows how much power consume by this Pc to run 24x7. planning to use as a firewall.

    • Too much power. Get something with a "mobile"-class cpu. Or at least a USFF PC with low-voltage intel chip.
You don't really need Windows for a firewall, surely!?

      • Plan to use Sophos XG, USFF doesn't have any PCI slots (I need to install a quad NIC)

        • usb3 NIC not stable enough?

  • +5

    overpriced.
4th gen i5 - you can do better than 300$

    • +1

      Yep. Overpriced. No bargains here.

  • RAM can be upgraded to 16GB ?

    • +1

      Yes it can.
Supports up to 32GB of RAM (4x 8GB sticks)

  • Noob question
How many of these outputs can you use simultaneously?

2x Display Port + VGA + Serial Port

  • +1

anyone know when the new "fleet" of refurbished PC will come through. I'm talking about the Dell 7040 and the newer HP Elitedesk
