It was $600 in March, see my comment here
I’d rather wait a little longer to see local prices come back down than importing from US

Hardly to see any GeForce RTX 2070 down to less than $700 in AU

That's because the chip was basically discontinued with the launch of the 2060 Super and the 2070 Super, similar to the 2080.

Wait for next gen, it's 2-4 months at this point.

At this price bracket, isn't 5700XT the better choice?

    • +2

      Yes

    • I would say yes and no. As some people really have their red or green camp preference.
5700XT is a good option too!

    • +2

rtx voice is worth the extra $ because now my friends dont complain about my gf watching retarded shows while i game

      • +1

oh hell yes! i saw that video on twitter too, tried that and cant go back

      • LOL, I can relate. I actually turn on for output device so I don't have to hear my friend's friends watching retarded shows! Discord also have very decent noise suppression though. So yeah 2070 or 5700 XT depends on preference or specific needs beside raw GPU power.

      • Does it work for mechanical keyboard noises?

        • Yes it does, although I haven't checked at what % it cancel out the keyboard noise. At 100% my friends say I sounded a bit funny, but the keyboard sound is blocked completely.

      • Can also use other software however it utilizes CPU which will slow down your overall PC performance.

Yes and no. A lot of people find the AMD drivers to be sorely lacking and full of bugs.
I’m one of those that won’t go team red on the gpu side for a while.
Even JayzTwoCents has talked about it.

That's why i bought the 2070 Super. GeForce Drivers. They are reliable. AMD's have been horrible from day 1 and i just don't have confidence int heir ability yet

      • I am a 5700 owner and have had no issues since new drivers. I don't know what to believe from others since they could legitimately have issues, or be an NVIDIA fanboy who has never owned the card and is trolling. It makes it too difficult to get a real sense on the scale of the issue. Some of it can be also down to tunnel vision, thinking that every issue with the PC is the AMD card, which again makes the scale of the issue very difficult to determine. I'm in no way saying that everyone should just go out and buy a 5700, so in it's current state I would only recommend it to those who are willing to go through the return process if worst does come to worst.

I can’t personally speak to current generation cards, but before I got my RTX 2060, I had an AMD R9 280. And they were still releasing drivers and updates for it when I upgraded.
I had no end of graphics problems from it.

However, what really clinched it for me was hearing Jay go off on one of his digressions when doing a video after getting random issues with an AMD card. When he was saying it’s just something he’s come to accept, that they do have more issues.

And no, it’s not going to affect everyone. And yes, nvidia has some too.
But the reality seems to be that if you do have a problem with graphics drivers, then the odds are high it’ll be AMD.

@Rail Rider95: AMD always has a rocky start, but for some that start never ends and I agree. This is why I will never be an early adopter of an AMD card again, I went through 6 months of driver hell before AMD fixed the card. I stuck with my stable driver, which still had black screens and it was a real gamble. I came out of it fine, but I wouldn't go through that again. They still have issues with DX9 downclocking, which can be fixed by using a DXVK wrapper but AMD should already have this baked into their drive and why they don't is beyond me.

            • @Void: Stockholm syndrome mate. I switched from a rx5700xt to 2060 super and sure I lose frames but I gain so much more. The Radeon team is echelons below the ryzen team at AMD. They are way behind on drivers and engineering. AMD had to move 7nm just to break equal with nvidia's thermal efficiency. You can get a mid-low range rtx 2060super and maintain acceptable thermal loads while you'd have to go high end on the AMD side to get decent cooling. Sure in terms of frames per dollar the rx5700 is king but which company is actually making the better product at the moment.

              • @mordinhoz: Ok I agree on the drivers but you do realise that not all 5700s are loud and hot? Look at Sapphire and PowerColor's cards. There's this thing called AIBs. I don't understand the stereotype to AMD running hot.

                • @Void: The power color and sapphire cards are higher end cards. Radeon cards do run hot. Look at the ASRock challenger which is a low end card. That heatsink would be okay on a rtx 2060 super.

                  • @mordinhoz: That's because the Challenger is actually shit. Also many 2060 Supers get above 70c, in fact the regular 5700 (matched performance) draws less power and outputs less heat. The 5700 XT runs hotter so that gets to around 72-73c on a decent-ish model like the MECH OC (after MSI fixed it) or the PowerColor no-name.

                    • @Void: Fair points. From an enthusiast point of view I don't see Radeon as compelling as NVIDIA at this point. NVIDIA are just more innovative and it seems the trend now is not just frames per dollar and more towards AI. And this is from someone who has owned a rx5700xt sapphire pulse. AMD could technically be reported to the ACCC over the DX9 issues. It's been almost a year and it still hasn't been solved or acknowledged. 5700 series owners are going to have a resale shock when RDNA2 and ampere arrive.

                      • @mordinhoz: Yeah at least they have a solution with DXVK, but they're too stoopid to implement it. For me Ray Tracing is unappealing at best as the affordable 2000 series cards can't run it at a stable 1080p60 and DLSS 2.0 just doesn't have enough games. AMD killed their reputation and they don't seem very intent on getting it back, leaving NVIDIA as the only option for those who want a plug and play experience. This is basically the iOS vs Android debate of 2013.

                        • @Void: Lol I wouldn't consider Radeon as bad as android in 2013. NVIDIA have just stepped it up notch. If they manage to undercut the 3000 series with decent ray tracing performance they would be very compelling buy again and I would consider them again. But for now they actually need to invest time into support team. If rDNA2 launches like 5700 series it could very well be the end for them.

                          • @mordinhoz: Yeah I honestly don't give a shit if they outperform NVIDIA tenfold if it's crashing every 2 minutes. They need to pour all their resources into the driver team and also stop using blower coolers!

Has more raw power, but nvidia drivers are better overall. Nvidia works better for VR too

      • Open source Linux drivers are flipped.

Very similar performance. The 2070 has better drivers and imo, better features (RTX voice, nvenc, dlss 2.0).

Though $700 on either card this late in the generation may not be the best choice.

edit, more benchmarks which shows the 5700xt is maybe 5% faster ish

I got my Gigabyte 2070Super for $623 back in December so at this price and given the next gen is coming so soon and supposedly a better performing gen I could hardly recommend this to anyone.. unless you're really in a pinch I guess

    • FTC delivered except at the very end. Expect a Super for this price. And that was with bonus 1TB SSD for that price. Post is not a bargain.

      • Yep and the SSD ain't bad too!
