Global 3 Piece Oriental Knife Set $129 + $9 Postage @ Victoria’s Basement

650

3 piece Global knife set for $129 plus postage. Thought I’d post this deal given the similar deals from Amazon today are both out of stock. I suspect this might be why those sets were on sale at Amazon in any case.

Don't know much about the difference but the Amazon knives were slightly different 9cm Paring, 20cm Cooks Fluted, 13cm Cooks

    VB deal is for

    • G-4 Oriental Cooks 18cm
    • GS-54 Oriental Santoku 12cm
    • GS-58 Oriental Cooks 11cm

But who cares, just bought them. Knives seem to be the new "it" thing on here

Also available on Victoria's Basement on eBay.

    • Thanks would there be any valid coupon code to use to get a further discount!

      • $5 eBay plus monthly voucher or cashback. Peanuts really

        • $5 eBay plus monthly voucher? I've been eBay plus for ~a year and haven't seen any of these?

          • @kiwizz: When you open this link in desktop mode / PC there is a section that says "Vouchers" at the top before your watch list and whether you have redeemed the $5 monthly voucher or not for that month. In saying that I need to correct myself because that $5 monthly voucher won't apply to this eBay listing as the seller is not an eBay Plus seller.

  • How to sharpen it? Can use regular one?

    • +1

You can use a regular stone, but Aluminium Oxide Stones (Norton India for example) will wear out and glaze from the Vanadium carbides, Silicon Carbide stones won't, and will continue to do a good job sharpening.

    • +3

Just use Global sharpener, just 7 passes each time through coarse and fine ceramics, it will bring the edge back.

      • … so silicon wheels

    • Use a chefs choice asian knife sharpener. A few seconds and its sharper than new

    • True ozbargainers sharpen it against the bottom of bowls.

  • Great price. I paid like $130 for my 18cm fluted Sankuto knife. 5+ years and it is still sharp with minimum maintenance(diamond stick sharpening, that's it)

  • +4

Keep in mind it's been this price on their eBay store for a while now.

    • +12

Yea but now it’s got votes on ozbargain everyone will buy it out.

Anyone want to argue about KNIVES ON THE INTERNET?!?!

    • +5

      That's not a knife. That's a spoon.

      • +2

Knives are like Ferraris and Spoons are like Hyundais.

        • +6

I see youve played knifey spooney before

        • Some would associate spoons with Hondas.

Buy a Kiwi knife from the Asian grocery store for around $5 each. Wife's a chef and she has had hers for over 7 years (home use). No need to spend this money.

    • Kiwi's perform so well because they are thin. Such good value, and easy to sharpen.

      • +1

They are fantastic. I bought a set of 3 in Thailand for 7$. How do you sharpen them?

        • Anything works on them, because they are a low carbide steel that isn't too gummy (most of the time, you get the odd bad-knife in a batch.)

I use most of the time a Course/Fine combination Silicon Carbide stone; fine side only if there's no damage, just light dulling, course to remove big dings in the edge. That stone does most of the work, and leaves a very slicy edge, good for bread or meats. If i'm doing a lot of push-cuts (no slicing action, dicing veg, cutting up tabouli, etc) then I will add a more polished edge, using a ceramic (Spyderco Medium/Fine) or very fine diamond stone (DMT EF).

          • @Tunblor: Thank you - any recommendation which one I should get? (or you are using).

    • Would Miracle Supermarkets carry the Kiwi knife. Anywhere else in Sydney?

      • +1

I have seen them at New Yen Yen supermarket at Chatswood and I think Eastwood.

    • Agreed. Awesome knives for the money. I even chuck mine in the dish washer regularly and bring the edge back with an iron. Varnished the wooden handle also just because.

      • +1

Yep. They look like something Rambo would have with him in the jungle.

Unlike the Global knives though, the handles will become quite uncomfortable after a while of use even though light in weight. excellent for light cutting of vegetables and slicing though.

        • Global is unconfomfortable if your hands aren't small.

    • +1

Kiwi's are great as cheap wonders. They go blunt easy though.

Personally I use Victorinox (chef for 20 years). Good if you have large hands like me. Very good grip.

    • Ah yes I have 5 different kinds of these. Great cheap knives but yes they do dull very easy.

Victoria's Basement… Sounds like the bondage section of Victoria's Secret. Any gags or gimp mask deals to do with the knives?
