Hello! I came across these by accident when I was staring at GPUs, and these seem like a decent price for 32 GB of 3200 MHz CL16 RAMs—particularly if you have Amazon Prime.

Some recent deals for comparison (both Corsair):

I'm new to all of this, but I have been staring at the price for the 3900X for a week now and want to note that the price for Amazon US items seem to fluctuate regularly, presumably base on changes in exchange rate.

Don't forget to check for compatibility before you buy this! I hope this helps! Good luck!

Nvm, they seem to have added more stock but the estimated delivery date is now 24-29th of June.

Ok deal if you don't mind the wait.

  • Just note that Prime doesn't include shipping back to US, all they might offer is you pay shipping and they pay you back after it is returned

  • Ah paid 216$ for these with the afterpay eBay deal through shopping express.
Agree probably better buying Aus stock but would be unlucky to have an issue but you never know. It's moreso the wait.

May as well Lodge a 28d shopper protection claim although will probably drop more in the next 12 months given its computer stuff. Probably can't given the statement has Afterpay not ebay on it. Could be worth testing out.

    • Doesn't eBay's price guarantee only cover up to 48 hours after the purchase? https://pages.ebay.com.au/buy/Best_Price_Guarantee/

      • +1

Oh right forgot about that but was a lot longer than 48h since I bought it, just claimed through my credit card (up to 1 year)

    • Another $24 back from 28 Degrees so got the ram at this price :).
Bit of a sh1t show trying to build a computer in these times, being fairly patient haha.
Working out pretty cheap though as long as prepared to sniff the deals out and wait, annoying getting stuff from wherever.

      • Doing the same and only downside is when we are ready to build and run into a defective part. Only option then is either wait until return and refund is sorted (may be a while) or buy new part locally to continue the build.

Fingers crossed all our Amazon parts turn out well!

        • Yeah mate it's a bit of effort and faffing around but have to try and get the best cost build in these times. Missed a courier delivery, had to get a Corsair PSU from AusPCmarket, same price as umart incl. delivery, annoying as umart just got stock back in yesterday ffs.

Hopeully no dramas but at least Amazon is quick, and free returns it seems.

  • Thanks, just ordered, was looking for this specific brand/model of RAM.

  • Nice deal! I got the corsair vengeance 2 x 16 gb for 211 that was on local amazon recently, would have got this instead. Though it did get delivered in two working days so probably worth it not to have to wait

  • I am building a Ryzen machine. 3700X based CPU.

Is it better to run dual channel or quad? Or does that depend on the motherboard?

    Planning an X570 build

Will most likely get 32Gb or 64GB of ram.

Will be compiling code, running VM's, learning Docker and gaming.

    • +1

Upgrade to HEDT as a minimum if you want more than dual channel.

Edit: Ok genius neggers. Show me quad channel RAM controller on a non-TR Ryzen.

X570 or consumer level boards are dual channels only. You might be referring to 2 DIMMS or 4 DIMMs. 4 DIMMs are harder to run well on Ryzen 3700X series CPUs. 2 DIMMs are much easier.

For code compilation, VM, Docker work, you don't need to chase memory speed, you won't gain much. However, you do want stability and reliability so don't push the RAM speed too hard. If you must go for 4 DIMMs, then you want to get above average DIMMs at least because Ryzen 3700X is quite picky on RAM modules for 4 DIMMs. Or, you want to be pragmatic and don't mind running with slower timings and/or slower memory speed.

      • What about on 3900X? I'm thinking about buying 2 of these kits (for 64GB total) with 3900X CPU, X570 and either RTX 2070 Super or 2080 Super.

        • If you are opting for 3900X, 2080 Super (and I assume high refresh rate monitor), then I wouldn't recommend these. As they are DDR3200-CL16, the chance of Hynix RAM modules is high. They could be CJK, but my experience with CJK is mixed (and I had a lot of trouble at 4 DIMMs - though I did fine one pair was faulty).

2 DIMMs is ideally the best, if you want top notch gaming. 4 DIMMs, if you want to save money, go for Micron Rev E die based solution. If you want the best, go for Samsung B-die.

The reality is that with 4 DIMMs on Ryzen 3xxx series, you cannot expect 2 DIMMs like performance and you really need to slow down memory timings quite a lot.

          • @netsurfer: Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I'm not too concerned about gaming at all (and I don't have a high refresh rate monitor). Just CAD (Solidworks) and 4K video editing on a multi-monitor setup.

            • @Duckman: DDR4-3200 4 DIMMs isn't difficult to achieve with decent RAM modules. However, my past experience with Hynix DDR4 RAM modules was not so good. However, Hynix CJR RAM modules are suppose to be good.

      • Yep, so x570 boards are dual channel only. Got it.

        Thanks.

    • I got this exact ram for a 3700x build as well, 2x16 leaves two slots not that I Can even imagine needing 64gb. Got a b450m too. Dual would be fine I reckon would you even notice a difference for the stuffing around?

  • +1

If my motherboard doesn't list this ram as approved does this mean I will not be able to run it at 3200? I have a B450 Mortar Max

    • 2 DIMMs, DDR4-3200 is quite achievable on B450. If you run into issues, set the command rate to 2T. Try XMP profile first.

4 DIMMs is a different story altogether.

      • Thanks netsurfer, I was planning on 64gig with 4 dimms, so I think I'll cancel my order just to be safe for now. Appreciate the input

        • You probably still can. Worst case is that you will need to drop RAM frequency. Command rate of 2T is pretty much required for 4 DIMMs. DDR4-3200 4 DIMMs is quite doable (though my experience is with Micron E-die).

  • I'm thinking of upgrading CPU (plus maybe GPU) mid next year from 6th Gen Intel to ryzen 4xxx. I would like to upgrade my ram now from 2x8gb. Is this future proof to next year's ryzen line-up? is there any tech that could change materially between now and then?

    Edit: not planning to overclock.

    • +2

Unless you know someone at AMD, no one can really tell you now. DDR4-3200 is a good spot for performance for Ryzen 3xxx series CPU. DDR4-3600 is the optimal spot, but DDR4-3200 is a decent spot without compromising too much. We do not know whether Ryzen 4xxx will push that spot further up (i.e. to DDR4-3400 perhaps).

Future proof for desktop generally is a bad idea (or an excuse we all use in an attempt to trick our brain to buy something we really don't need now). The only thing you could consider future proofing is large data storage. You could buy larger SSDs if they are at bargain prices (but probably don't chase flagship models as they will surely be updated soon). With AUD potentially getting stronger in the short term, there is no need to rush. If you don't have a Z series board, DDR4-3200 is a waste on your Intel system. Get these if you truly believe it is a really good bargain.

      • Great summary thanks. After building for a long time I agree totally in principle. Upgradability is an illusion and ends up costing just as much if not more over time. I would just like to have a ram upgrade in advance so wanted to know if this is with it.

        • If these were Samsung B-die, then it would be no brainer. These are likely Hynix.

If you believe 32GB would be enough for your next PC and you are not chasing high speed memory, then you can consider this. AUD is rising vs end of financial year sale.

    • If you need it now, just grab it now. This is very good price already, I bought this kit last year for $200 and thought it could never get lower than that.

You will get very minimal performance gain going from 3200mhz cl16 to 3600mhz cl16. The cheapest 3600mhz cl16 is around $250, definitely not worth the addition cost.

      • He doesn't need it now. Intel 6th gen CPU. Even with a Z series motherboard, he will need to overclock the RAM. He is not going to get much performance boost with that CPU.

Buying memory in advance for a CPU that we have no idea about isn't wise.

        • Well, he did say he'd like to upgrade his RAM now, and CPU sometimes next year. He already has 16GB, so I doubt the upgrade is only for gaming. Ryzen 4000 will bring better RAM support, but it'll still be DDR4 so he's not going to miss out much.

  • Could I get a pair of this if I have a pair of different ram and brands?

    Currently I have 2 x 8GB Corsair Vegeance LPX RGB 3000mhz cl15.

    Thanks.

    • It really depends on motherboard as well, I had one just don't mix match memory and won't boot while another motherboard in same platforms boots fine. It really luck with memory, if you don't want to chance it. Just replace whole kit and sell old one or use it another build.

      • Thanks mate. Would you think 16GB is enough for Gaming?

        • Yes, 16GB is plenty for gaming.

  • Did anyone think that this was a couch or sofa when you looked at the picture in the thumbnail? :D

The brand is G.Skill, not G.Skills.

  • +1

Kept telling myself I would not buy more RAM, but all these deals!

  • Thinking it might be time for me to upgrade my intel 2500k

    • Ha, that's what I'm doing, got that CPU from 2012 with G Skill 8G(2x4G) DDR3 1600MHZ PC3-12800 CL9 and a HD6950.

Still runs great, Wouldn't run any games. Was originally just going to add another 8GB and add a rx 480 or 1050 and maybe OC, but those cards were still around 300$ and the ram similar price to DDR4.

Excuse to upgrade for tax time

  • Expired. Price back up to $249.

Thanks OP. I grabbed a pair last night for my planned new build.

  • I now have 3 of these particular modules.. but I don't think my mobo supports 3x 16gb.

So I either need to swap 1x16 for 2x8gb.
    Or buy a 4th 16gb stick.
