why do we have to login to see prices of your store products (i.e. iPad, macbook)? I'm a student and I don't wanna create an account just to see prices

  • +4

Hi, I'm really sorry about that. We're legally required to make sure students are eligible before we can show pricing, I know it's a pain. We've tried to make creating the account as easy as possible.

We can advertise the prices of our Lenovo devices however, which is why you can see this one. Each vendor has different rules in their agreements we need to adhere to, but Lenovo does allow us to show their prices.

    • understood. thanks for the reply

if you could let us know, is the discount any better than Apple education store pricing?

      • Yes, the sale for the Apple laptops is already on top of their education pricing :-)

        • Hi, would that be the same for ipads?

          • @justausername: No sorry, they're just ad education pricing currently. There's just some MacBooks on the "Recommended" page that are on sale.

  • I'm a Teacher, am I able to get these prices?

    • Yes, just use your work email when you sign up :-)

      • I have signed up with my work email. Its asking for id?

        • That might be a glitch, sorry the site was only recently redesigned. I'll go check to see if any work emails have been missed and manually verify.

        • Ok it should be working now.

          • @BYODStore: same asking for the id for me as well i sign up with my edu.au id

            • @MotorHead: Sorry that's a glitch, it still works with the email but you'll land on that page after you log in. I'll send this to our developers to work on.

          • @BYODStore: Same for me, have just registered my edu address, but asking for student ID

          • @BYODStore: Signed up with my university email and asked for ID. Submitted my ID and still pending for the past few hours

  • "Deal for Australian students, parents buying on behalf of students, and education staff only."

There doesn't appear to be any validation of this when registering, should the above be followed by ";)"

    • they ask you to upload a picture of your education ID

edit: jokes, you can see prices without uploading verification ID

  • No Samsung? :(

    • No sorry, we only sell Lenovo, Apple, Google, HP, Acer and Microsoft devices.

      • thanks for replying, might look at Google instead :)

        • Good luck, we have a few Chromebooks :-)

    • Are you trying to buy a phone or a laptop, please don't purchase a Chromebook, there is so much wrong with them

      • +1

There is so much right with them too.

Great price and value for what you get.
        Smaller / compact.
        Longer lasting.
        Instant on.
        No viruses.
        Lots of freebie apps.

        • -2

          Sounds like a glorified phone

Great price, but you're buying a shit-box of a laptop with a lot less capability
          Smaller/compact….. like a tablet?
Longer lasting as long as you intend to only use it for word documents, basic internet browsing and never anything else
          Instant on….. like a phone?
No Viruses, I wouldn't want to infect a Chromebook if I was a virus anyway :P
Lots of freebie apps….. like a phone?

          • @Gorian4: And what's wrong with a phone. What are you, a laptop-litist?

Different devices cater for different user groups. Have some common sense and respect that no everyone is like you.

            • -2

@hippo2s: Nothing is wrong with a phone, but if my phone has a 12 inch screen and a keyboard, it better come with Windows 10

Ok, I'll bite, what group does the Chromebook cater to?

              • @Gorian4: Students (K-7), those that prefer the simplicity, those that just need a machine to surf the internet, generation cloud, aged users that just need a machine that works.

PS. Don't upgrade your Windows 10 to build 2004.

                • @hippo2s: Thankyou for the response hippo,

I'll agree, aged users that just need a machine that works, that's fine, no problems

But Students (no matter how young) will all benefit greatly from being exposed to the most versatile Operating Systems and programs we can provide them, the earlier they can get access to a deeper understanding of the electronics and Operating Systems that are available in the world, the better off they will be for the rest of their lives.

I'm not saying they have to be professional hackers by the time they reach high school, but being able to code programs and apps and being able to create something visual though Photoshop or Adobe Premiere will be a very strong asset to have later on in life and I believe the simplicity offered by Chromebooks is a step back rather than a step forward, that makes way for companies to have control over what you're able to do with your device, just like Apple is able to do with their iPhone's

Anyway, build 2004 definitely isn't helping my case, hahahah, but glad you brought it up :P

  • Good price. Shame my kids are not old enough.

    • Thanks for the compliment anyway :-) We should still exist as a business later on so you can always come back then if you like. We pride ourselves on keeping our prices competitive.

Great price for this specs. My old Miix 510 only breakdown once because of the internal fan, I've been using it since 2016.

Was wondering if the 16gb RAM version would be available? 8gb ram is the only reason that I cannot add it into my cart.

    • agree, 8gb is just borderline OKish for today but will not be in the future - of course depends what you do but generally :)

    • Good morning, no sorry. We've sold out of the 8GB version and I don't think we'll be getting more in. We do have custom Apple devices though, and might receive some Lenovo devices with higher specs in future. I've also heard a rumour that we might receive some gaming laptops, too, but that's unconfirmed.

  • How do I proceed in buying one for my kid?

    • Create an account with their student email address and it should be automatically verified, otherwise you'll need to upload a student id / school email screenshot / etc. Happy to help walk you through the process if needed :-)

      • Looks good. Being charged $22 for shipping within Vic?

        • The site should generate that as a flat rate for all Aus :-)

          • @BYODStore: No problem. Was just wondering because the title says $20

            • @dosada: Sorry, my mistake. I remembered wrong :-(

          • @BYODStore: I have just ordered and selected bank transfer as payment method. However, it shows as sold out. Is the only that i have purchased still in stock and should i go ahead with the payment or are you fully sold out? I did receive an order confirmation

            • @dosada: Could you please contact me via the site's LiveChat so I can reference your details with your order? I only marked the devices as out of stock once we had sold them all, so if you purchased before the order should still be valid.

  • I was able to order immediately with non-edu address. Uploaded document still shows pending.
Not sure what to upload, as don't really have school ID or proof of enrol. Just the bus pass, reports, or acceptance letter.

Great price! I think my kid might be inheriting my old laptop when he starts high-school next year :-)

The Miix 520 is an older model, but still good. Battery life is not the greatest, but kids don't mind dimming the screen.

  • Great price for what you get.
I had a Lenovo Miix 700 though and the keyboard is kinda dead. Was not good to type on at all. There was no depth to the keys, and some keys kept getting missed / not registered.

  • isn't that the slimmest bezel money can buy?
with bezel like that you are better off getting 99 dollars android Pendo look the same and people will think you are using a Pendo despite using a Lenovo it has all the style, the traits the looks of a Pendo most of all the least obvious bezels you can also wear matching bell bottoms to go with this huge bezel tablet from 1999

Are you abusing some prescription medicine?

    • +1

I'm with dosada, this has to be the worst comment I've ever seen

  • missed it. any 15" laptop with similar specs at this price

    • Mine 🤣 F510UA

      • link please

        • That number is a Stock Keeping Unit, if you copy and paste it into your browser you'll find listings with the device he's mentioned. First one I found is here, but it seems to be discontinued. If you hunt around you might be able to find one, if you like it :-) https://www.amazon.com.au/ASUS-VivoBook-Nanoedge-Processor-F…

I don't think we have anything with similar specs and pricing at 15" inches though, sorry. You can always follow our Facebook page or subscribe to our newsletter if you want updates on when the next sale is (facebook.com/byodstore, subscribe to the newsletter via our website if you like).

Any more of these coming in stock @BYODstore ?

    • Hi Sludo, no sorry. I think they're going to be replaced with a newer model.

  • Hey BYODStore.

I have received my unit as described and overall i am really happy with it. However, there is a little issue with the warranty. I have just done a system detect on the Lenovo page and it says there

    Start Date 2019-01-15
    End Data 2020-01-14

Could someone please look into this as going by Lenovo there is no warranty on the unit. Does anyone else who purchased the unit have the same?
