  • Very good price but I wonder if you still need to connect to mainland server to find this item in Mi Home app.

    • +3

You don't, just enable LAN access/control and you can control via Home Assistant. I usually use yeelight app to pair initially these bulbs and enable developer/lan access.

      • home assist needs a server box doesn't, or some sort of middle party to run the service?

        • Yeah, I have small SFPC running hassio and bunch of other services. From memory there is a app that use local/lan access to toggle (IOS: LightYeeAr)

You can start up with raspberry pi but I personally would invest in SFPC with SSD if you wish to have smooth/fast loading of UI.

          • @[Deactivated]: You can install hassio on a PC?

I was reading up on it and found a few complicated options. Everyone was recommending a raspberry pi instead.

Please point me in the right direction if you have any links. I would like to try and setup home assistant on a nuc if that is possible.

            Thanks

      • from where you enable that lan access/control?

and i thought i was connecting to Singapore server not mainland, and my bulbs are working fine with google assistant

        • It rename to developer mode, but I personally don't have smart product connecting to internet. It all connects to home assistant. There is option to connect google assistant to home assistant but personally I don't really need voice control as I find it to slower than physical button or through my home assistant ui.

          https://forum.yeelight.com/t/cannot-find-the-developer-mode-…

          • @[Deactivated]: ok found it. they were off before, and turn it on now.
but i still dont understand what is this for? i mean before turning on lan access i could already control my bulb with google assistant (voice, or through Lenovo smart clock screen)

            • @CyberMurning: It mainly for application such as Home assistant or openhab to interface with yeelight without giving it internet access after initial setup. So you don't have relay on cloud to turn on your light bulb.

              • @[Deactivated]: ah… for a minute i was scracthing my head but then realised i got confused about the naming.
google assistant, home assistant, google home, mi home. oh my gozzz…..
all good i am happy just using one, google home app, local lan is fine

      • can also control via Google Home/alexa etc.

If you have google home, and open LAN access, and resync, GH will use that when it can (although you will still need internet access for GH)

      • I have done this - and works well. But occasionally loses connectivity randomly, and then need to power cycle the light bulb.

        • Yeah, I have notice that too. That only happens if the blub hasn't been toggle on/off for a while. That for my case, as my study/office light happens if I leave it on/off for too long without toggling it.

I have just made automation to toggle it everynight on lowest brigtness and seem to fix the issue for now…

          • @[Deactivated]: Mine toggles every day - but it still happens.

I have one in the stairwell, which is motion deteced, and one that turns on an hour after sunset and turns off at sunrise.

Both seem to lose connectivity at the same time.

I wonder if my router is doing updates overnight (mesh system) and when it restarts, the Yeelight never reconnects… or vice versa, the yeelight is updating overnight.

            • @The Hobo: I assume you haven't blocked internet access to them? or have you?

  • These bulbs don't response to Alexa anymore.

    • i heard he re-married with google last month.

      • Serves me right. Was looking for loyalty from an unfaithful partner…

  • Almost better off just paying a little extra for the mirabellas from kmart

    • +1

      Are they better?

      • +1

Easily accessible (ur bound to have a local kmart, bigw or woolies) so no need to pay exxy shipping and wait ages.
Easy warranty - kmart staff give zero forks for warranty, just easy swap.
        Actually goes alright.
App is not terrible and is based off tuya stock.
No stuffing around with xiaomi app which can be a bit spotty.

To be fair though the mirabella ones dont dim down as low. And dont support fancy stuff like synx to music :)

        • Agreed. Plus I have had so many problems with xiaomi warranty and servers dropping

  • why always e27?

  • +4

    Expensive ass shipping.

    • Go for postal shipping instead - less messy.

      • Postal? Don't see an option

FYI These won't load in the Xiaomi Home app for some reason. Only Gen 1 does.

  • i found some or most LOCAL BRAND coloured rgb smart light bulb, for white they only can do warm white (the yellowish) not cool day bright (65,000k).

but this xiaomi yeelight can go up to 65,000k
    1700K-6500K

For anyone planning to use this with Mi Home app, please try to stay away from these.

I have at least 40 of these all around the house, along with about 20 sensors and some switches, couple of Xiaomi gateways and an Aqara hub. Since a few months, Xiaomi’s chinese servers seems to be having issues which causes the lights (mostly) and other smart wifi devices to constantly drop network connection. Over the months, I have tried, resetting devices, changing ISPs, changing routers, changing NBN box, changing gateways, changing their locations, etc etc and I still have this problem.

It has now become a norm that I restart these lights and the gateways time to time every single day. I have invested so much that I can’t just switch to other smart home eco system.

On the other note, the lights (when they work) do work with Alexa, Google Home, Homekit and Home Assistant.

I have notices this too. I used to be all for xiaomi but in the last couple months they just stop working all the time. I have started to move towards lifx which socks because I spent so much investing all my lights and sensors and cameras into xiaomi. Will not be going back to them as smart appliances are useless if their server is down all the time.

      • hmm ok so would you think BrilliantSmart smart light bulb is better?
no wonder i saw soomone selling lots of xiaomi bulb on gumtree in one go

      • +1

Am about $500 into xiaomi eco system now. The cameras have been ok requiring only occasional power cyxles but sucks the google assistant integration got killed off as it was cool to bring uo a feed on my lenovo smart display.

The e27 lamps have been average at best. I just leave them on warm white now and dont bother controlling it as had constant issues connecting / losing connection / random resets etc.

vankaaye You should try Home Assistant so you dont relay on external influences

      • Tried. Not as good as Mi Home apps automation options.

        • +1

I will have to disagree. There isn't anything you can't do in home assistant

          • @jackwoz: I may not have explored HA hard enough to disagree with you on that :)

But from what I have tried and gone through, HA is not as straight forward as these apps from the manufacturers of the product. Mi Home app for example create their automation rules based on their products and to its full possibilities. Third party apps like HA, do come very close, but it involves a lot of effort for a common man, and they do have limitations. For example, below Xiaomi/Aqara devices are unsupported by HA, and on top, it’s not up to date with the new products that release almost every week.

Xiaomi Aqara Gateway (lumi.gateway.aqhm01), as it is not possible to activate dev mode in the Mi Home App.
            Gateway Radio
            Gateway Button
Xiaomi Mi Air Conditioning Companion (lumi.acpartner.v2)
Aqara Intelligent Air Conditioner Controller Hub (lumi.acpartner.v1)
Decoupled mode of the Aqara Wall Switches (Single & Double)
Additional alarm events of the Gas and Smoke Detector: Analog alarm, battery fault alarm (smoke detector only), sensitivity fault alarm, I2C communication failure

            • @vankaaye: I see you have found the list of unsupported features, but are you really wanting to use these features?

I have a house littered with all xiaomi products (over 30), all doing independent automatons, and they all work seamlessly.

I agree with you that initially, getting HA running was a pain in the ass, especially doing the automation in YAML. But now you can set the automations from within the GUI, which for the common man may be a bit easier.

I would urge you to have another bash at it, as you may be surprised.

"For anyone planning to use this with Mi Home app, please try to stay away from these."
but why you want to use it with mi home if they can work with google home and google assistant? i dont get it.
oh maybe because you have many other xiaomi products which dont or wont work with google home?

      • App supports advanced features like dim to warm over time.

      • Mainly for the extensive automation options and how well all the other Xiaomi and aqara products integrate well when automating.

  • anyone has the latest (not this one in the post) but this one 1S:

    https://www.banggood.com/Yeelight-1S-YLDP13YL-8_5W-RBGW-Smart-LED-Bulb-Work-With-Homekit-AC100-240V(Xiaomi-Ecosystem-Product)-p-1575879.html?

far out why the link is become text.

    i like because
    Color Temperature Range 1700K-6500K
    Rated Power 8.5W

i just worry it wont work with google assistant as some mentioned above
