Original Coupon Deal

Was going to buy the US import deal on Amazon but did one more search on eBay and found this.

Another seller offering the same price - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AMD-AM4-Ryzen-9-3900X-Processor-…
(credit to users https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/70605 & https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/283109)

For those who bought it earlier today at $658.56, can try to claim the eBay Plus price protection - https://www.ebay.com.au/help/buying/paying-items/ebay-best-price-guarantee?id=4627
(contacted eBay CS and found that you can't claim best price guarantee against other sellers on eBay)

    amd yes

3 years ago this would net you a 4 Core CPU… how times are a changin'

    • +22

If wasn't for competition, Intel will still offer us 4 cores.

    • +3

? My 6 core 3930k in 2012 was $600. But I do like my 3900x this year for $600 too, 8 years later.

    I'm going to jizz

amd, yes indeed. If you need something now don't bother waiting for XT refresh or for new architecture.

    Wait if you can though.

    • what's the ETA of the XT refresh?

      • +1

        07/07/2020 release apparently.

        • I was hearing mid-June a few days ago. Was the release postponed?

          • +3

@Duckman: I think you might be thinking of the announcement as opposed to release

      • Yep, supposedly official release is set for July 7th.

AMD accidentally leaked the date on an Amazon Italy listing.

      • supposed release details tomorrow (16th) if rumors are correct with a July release.

    • XT will be more expensive

    • +1

XT release is just a binned version of Zen 2, the difference will be marginal at best since the current 3700x's are already improved since launch due to process maturity.

Buy now, or you'll be waiting until next year for Zen 3.

    • What is the logic behind waiting?

I've been thinking about upgrading from my 7600k, but could definitely wait another year if I needed to. Not sure if I should pull the pin now or if the new architecture (on intel or AMD) will be a massive improvement

    Ayyyy…md

  • A man can only dream. ~$500 . Take my money!!

I bought this 2 weeks ago for $769 last week

    • +1

If bought on eBay, try claiming price protection.

    • How is that possible? 2 weeks ago last week?

      • 2 weeks ago sorry…

    • Same, bought mine for 779, feels bad…

  • +3

Price just dropped, it's now $627 after discount!

    • +1

ooooooooof …. :( trying my best to resist!

wait dont have ebay plus… pfew crisis averted!

  • +4

Price appears to have dropped, so now it comes to $627.20 after discount.

There is another seller that the code works with as well, that has it at the same price (flashforwardtech):

    AMD AM4 Ryzen 9 3900X Processor Desktop CPU 12 Core 24 Thread 64MB Cache 3.8 GHz - flashforwardtech - eBay Link

  • Thinking of buying with the discount being $627, can anyone recommend me a cheap but great mobo for this? Max i'd spend maybe $300 on mobo
    Cheers guys

  • This or the XT? I think this looks to be a lot better value.

    • +4

They expecting a 30% price increases for only 100 Hz faster. Not worth the XT.

      • I think price (and performance) wise it'll slot inbetween the 3900X and 3950X. Basically the XT is running on the same binned silicon the 3950X is.

3950X can be had by same seller for $1072

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/163961395871

        • Understand. Just annoyed as early leaks suggest the XT price point would be the current X during launch.

Will found out tomorrow when it officially launches I guess.

  • Arrgh………this one now or Zen 3 Ryzen 4000 series later this year?

    • +3

Depends on your usecase and budget.

      1. Will your current PC tide you over until Ryzen 4000? If so wait.
      2. Can you afford to pay more for the 4900x (approx $800 based on 3900x pricing). If not buy this.
3a. What's your usecase? As in do you need 12 cores? If primarily gaming this is overkill and won't give you more fps over a 3600. In that case I would wait for the 4600/4700.
3b. If productivity is your focus and money is a factor get this.

The reason I say wait for the 4600 in gaming cases is amd claim they have done a heap to improve gaming beyond clocks and IPC. I don't think it's confirmed but it's looking like the the ccxs' will have 8 cores rather than a 4+4 layout this will deal with the latency issues that hinder higher fps on Ryzen. Add to that the 10-17% IPC expectations AMD set with 4000 and a potential modest clock speed improvement, there will be a real reason to wait if you already have something to play on in the meantime.

        1. My current PC is a 12 year old Core2quad with a Rx480.
        2. Already bought the Aorus x570 ultra mobo and up to $4k budget for other components
2a. Main purposes are gaming, watching netflix, youtube and tons of google tabs all at once via 2x 34" monitors

I think I will wait for 4600 then and many thanks for your advice.

        • General expectation from what I can gather is the new architecture will be dropping early next year (hence the XT refresh as an interim). If you sprung for a new board, I'd probably sell it and buy whatever comes along in 6 months time. A lot of these B550 boards are opening up a new line of options on the market.

          • @BargainKen: I bought that X570 around Feb/Mar and still in the box untouched and I don't suppose Scorptec will let me return it by now.

Anyway, is B550 expected to be superior to the X570 in terms of supporting the new architecture?

Nice one! Canceled my amazon order and as it hadn’t shipped all good!

  • Pulled the trigger! Thanks, Dosman!

  • 3950x for $1070? Heck yer

  • Thank you for posting. Cancelled the amazon order and ordered 1 here.

  • Cheers. Got one.

  • This is an excellent deal, good find!

  • +1

deal is dead - out of stock

  • Anyone know of any deals for the 3600? Cheers

  • Is this future proof for at least another 3-5 years for video editing, paired with a B450 Tomahawk?

    • I’d say yes to the cpu and if your not changing your setup then mobo with good cooling and good vrm should be fine but if you plan to upgrade cpu I’d wait for the B550 boards to be honest or x570 if they drop in price :)

  • GODDAMNIT, JUST MISSED IT D:

The second seller https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/224045953239 has them back on sale $680 after discount, not great price but about same as Amazon for local stock. I think this will be the new normal price given the increase price on the XT variants with modest performance increases.

  • Anyone received theirs yet?

    • +1

Got mine and it's almost unbelievable how loud the stock cooler is.

      In the trash it goes.

      • the stock cooler (Wraith Prism) should have decent resale value
gumtree it is probably a better idea

        • Seems like it goes for 40 or so. Not worth the effort for me but thanks for the info.
