Does anyone know who makes the panels for Kogan?

What's the quality like or are they generally rubbish?

    • +1

it varies widely, mostly OEMs from Korea, sometimes China, panel manufacturers are still Samsung, Sharp, AU Optronics, or LG.

This one is BOE. They generally always list it in the specifications.

    • The panel is good. This specific EXACT BOE panel is used by both Viewsonic and LG. In fact they are selling monitors that use it right now.

8ms and 75hz will be a nice upgrade for people running non-specific 60hz screens.

I think 75hz is the new 60hz; people who only game as a hobby rather than competitive, will have a great experience at 75hz.

No need to argue if 100hz or 144hz etc is better; its quicker, but one of those things the average consumer wont notice unless you A to B them.

For everyone else, enjoy how fluid 75hz is compared to what you're used to.

  • any g-sync monitors at this price range, or am i dreaming

    • Pretty much dreaming. Just find a g-sync "capable" monitor (either g-sync compatible or has been tested to work with g-sync by other users).

I was eyeing AOC Q32V3/WS (https://www.centrecom.com.au/aoc-315-qhd-5ms-75hz-frameless-…) or perhaps Viewsonic VX3276-2K (https://www.centrecom.com.au/viewsonic-ultra-slim-vx3276-2k-…) which are similar sort of price point to this Kogan one. Both those monitors are out of stock atm, and stock availability is expected to be in July. I am not in a rush to get a monitor but wondering if they might be better than this Kogan one or if anyone has any practical experience with those 2 monitors.

Just my 2cents from comparing your mentioned posts:

The AOC Q32V3/WS you mentioned is a VA panel with worse picture quality than IPS panels. However the AOC does have 5ms response time for what it's worth.

Viewsonic seems like a nice deal. They have speakers compared to the Kogan 32" which doesn't.

      • Thanks mate, I am considering VA panel because of the contrast during dark environment or black images. Guess my best bet is to drop at a store and compare both when they are available in stock.

        • +1

Just be aware VA is very slow.
The blacks will be better, so for slow cinematic will be beautiful.

However, if you game or watch any action movies, there will be significant ghosting.

Va is also fantastic for black text on a white page; I love them for business use.

The VA one is terrible. Do not buy.

The dark-level transitions are over 25ms.

The IPS is much, much faster.

I have the Viewsonic VX3276-2K. I really like the design and how thin it is
It's okay for casual gaming as it has 60Hz refresh rate

      • Thanks for that :). How does it perform if you are say watching a blu ray movie etc?

        • +1

Yeah totally fine. I sometimes watch movies on that screen in my bedroom. I use external speakers though

          • @Scythic: Have you tried to overclock this monitor?

            • +1

@Splurge: Yes. It wouldn't go 75hz smoothly. Had to switch back

              • @Scythic: Did it reach 72hz?

                • @MasterScythe: Did try a few but 70Hz was the highest and most stable
However after a week or so, I had to switch back to native refresh rate because of some black screen issue

      • Agree on the Viewsonic VX3276-2K. 3 months of work usage plus casual gaming and no complaints. Sadly no stock anywhere and was forced to recommend the 32" Kogan above to a mate who wanted a similar deal.

  • But I think this is really bad for a 32 inch screen with VGA and HDMI supported only 1080p max, and only the Display port will be able to output QHD.

I was looking at my 27 inch monitor originally using HDMI input with 1080p max and found using DP input with QHD native output feel more comfortable.

My other 32 in TV running 1080p, I already feel it it looking bad already. (I sit 2 meters away from it.)

    Isn't it?

    • Uhmm… you're comparing a TV to a PC monitor :P

But you can use HDMI 2.0 cable to output higher resolution. Old HDMI cables only support 1080p
I'm sitting 60~80 cm away from my 32" 2K monitor and it doesn't look grainy

  • If this was 144Hz, I wouldn't have even cared about that 8MS response time… But 75Hz isn't anything special… Most monitors overclock to about 75Hz anyway

  • I can vouch for the BOE panel inside. It is actually very good. It is used on LG and Viewsonic offerings. VX3211-2k, vx3211-2kmhd and LG 32QK500-C

I used such panel on Viewsonic equivalant (vx3209-2k) and with harware color calibrator it came good. It's also decent in gaming, surprisingly so.

BTW people talking about 8ms. You know 99% response time listings are lies right? This monitor attempts to be honest, rather than say 4ms like every other IPS on planet which is a straight lie (or 1ms TN is a straight lie, none exist on Planet Earth)

    • Which calibrator did you use?

      • +1

        spyder 5 with displaycal software
