    LOL, 15GB data.

    • +8

Perfect for people that have access to unlimited wifi most of the time!

      • +3

The perfect compliment for a tablet that does limited travelling outside WiFi access if you ask me.

        • Aldi has data plans - the same $99 give you 30GB for the year instead of 15GB. You can't use an iPad to call anyway, so better than this deal.

Kind of unfortunate to see Boost's $150/80GB goes.

          • @xmagic: They are not disappearing. Just only being sold directly by boost

        • +1

          compliment

          Complement

    • its perfect for calls only and not data focus….there's heaps of people out there.

  • +6

So $20 more and you get 60GB instead of 15GB with Catch Connect.

    • +14

And Optus instead of Telstra. I'd rather have 15GB that are always available than 60GB i can just hope for. At least in my area.

      • +22

        rebellions are built on hope

    • +1

I'm not exactly keen on Catch. I have used it several times but they always be slower than both Optus Prepaid and Postpaid. This is tested using same phone, same location. Someone said Catch has aggressive speed cap which may be true.

      • +1

Maybe but my personal experience says no. I live in an area with good access to all carriers but no tourists atm because it's so cold. I've been using Catch sims the last few weeks. New USA TV torrents are flying downloading in a couple of minutes or less much like like they do on Kogan/Vodafone and Amaysim/Optus.

    • +3

a year.. Would probably use it while browsing through FB. Probably good for kids if you dont want them to use much data.

  • +21

It's actually NOT a bargain, cheap but NOT a bargain,,,

When you can get BOOST with OfficeWorks 5% beat for around $125 you get huge 80gb [plus i got a extra 40gb thrown in] data together with international calls&sms to 20 countries plus a further free minutes to other countries o/s and apple music [what ever the hell that is?]

Boost being a Telstra company would offer superior service too

    0.27c v 0.34c a day, aldi YOU BLEW IT!

    • -1

why apple music. Why not iMusic?

    • +5

      My thoughts too.

For $51 extra on Boost, you get:
      - 6.67GB v 1.25GB a month average data
      - Calls to certain overseas countries v no overseas calls
      - An ability to add (less expensive) overseas data roaming v expensive data roaming (50c per MB!)
      - Data free Apple music and free sports passes
      - Full Telstra network v wholesale
      - VoLTE and VoWifi v nothing
      - A much higher degree of certainty that you'll be able to get the same offer in a year's time.

    • +22

$99 versus $125 = a bargain (for a lot of people), maybe you are one of these narrow minded people in life who can only see what is of benefit to themselves.

I know plenty of elderly people on this $99 deal who could care less about data or even own a smartphone. So of course its a bargain to many people.

      People requiring more data - comparing 80gb to 15gb is a no-brainer.

      • +1

I have had my mum on this $99 plan for the last couple of years, she is retired at home most of the time with wifi and doesn't 'play' on her phone when out and about.

$8.25 for Unlimited Calls and Text and adequate data for her needs is a great deal.

        • does it come with a sim?

      • +3

This, why pay more for something you won't use. Some people here have the wrong mentality for these deals.

      • +1

I'm young and ALDI is perfect for me, $8.25 a month. I mainly use my mobile for its purpose, calling and messaging.

Paying Extra for more data is just wasting $$, and I use wifi at home.

      • Plus if you add the 70gb data add-on you actually get better value than boost on a dollar per GB comparison.

For me I recharge one 70gb add-on every 2 years and it's perfect due to rollover.

    • +5

Feels weird to "defend" the deal as the OP. But this is a deal for someone like me. I was going to go for the new catch deal as the cheapest year-long free calls deal. It's horses for courses as I'm looking for a "home phone" for the kids.

    • +2

Who is OW price beating to get it for $125?

      • Noone anymore. Only boost will be selling their plan from now on for full price.

    • Did anyone get this sms from boost?

From 1st July $150 recharge vouchers will no longer be available. You can continue to recharge on our $150 plan using the Boost website, app or #111#. More info bst.st/010720

    • And it is a bargain for other people. eg. Someone who doesn't need international calls. They can buy 5x 40GB Kogan SIMs with that additional $25 instead and can ditch their NBN saving another $60 per month minimum. :-)

    • how do you price beat at OW? seems all selling same price $150

    • It is bargain if you dont need 80gb. Some people might use 5gb a year but prefer to have the margin of safety but not willing to pay extra 50% for Boost

  • +4

As a comparison you can buy the Belong $25 starter pack for $10 & stay for 12 months using 2 options

    • Option 1 - $85 with 13GB
    • Option 2 - $100 with 31GB

Belong uses the Telstra network as well. Plus you don't have to pay the full amount upfront and have a lot more flexibility.

    • @Arthur, I am interested with these options. How do i get these op[tions?
I just checked Belong web site and they dont have the 12 months option ?
      Or am I missing something?

      • Click on the link & it's all there in the description.

It's not an official 12 month plan. You just stay for 12 months by not porting out & cancelling your account. The money is automatically deducted from your credit card or paypal every month.

You can leave anytime, so you could leave after 4 months on option 1 & it would only have cost you $10.

      • you basically sign up for a big data pack first month (it doubles your first month's data) and then downgrade to a lower pack. the data keeps rolling over month to month.

e.g. get 20GB first month, then 1GB every month after that means you have 31GB over 12 months

    • Beat me to it! Although I was going to add, if you're really up for it search Gumtree/eBay/fb Marketplace for the $80 SIM, which people usually sell for ~$40.

Activate it making sure to use a referral code and you're got $100 for ~$40, you can then choose to activate how you wish; either to maximise the $ value ($10 plan) or data value ($40 plan).

      And your out in front.

    • -1

But no unlimited calls and texts, just data

      • Did you even click on the link?

        • -1

Yes, the longest option has calls and texts for 4 months (unless I'm mistaking) and data roll over. What I meant was this plan here offers the same for 12 months.

          • @Hansi: Best to ask on the Belong post about the details.

            • -1

@Arthur Dunger: Your suggestion is a good option for a few months, but people should just be aware of the difference to this plan which offers 12 months.

Personally the Belong plan is a great deal!

              • +1

@Hansi: The only difference over 12 months is Belong is better value.

              • +1

@Hansi: The only real differences are that with the ALDI plan you pay for 12 months upfront instead of monthly, you're locked in for those 12 months and that it works out more expensive when you compare it to Belong using the discounts available.

          • +1

@Hansi: Where are you getting 4 months from? It's a monthly plan?

          • @Hansi: The plan does not change after 4 months, you are just paying the normal price for the recharge instead of using the included credit afterwards.

            • @wangasm: Still don't understand what you're trying to convey here. No one has stated that the plan changes, you're still paying for both, the difference is that instead of paying for the year upfront (12 months - ALDI); you purchase a SIM with credit on it (Belong) which can then be activated on any of their plans ($10/$25/$40) in this case the $10 one. If done correctly you'll save money.

              • +2

@Cousin IT: I'm replying to Hansi who is under the impression that call and texts ended after 4 months. I am on the Belong plan myself so I know how it works :)

              • @Cousin IT: Just realised that. Sorry, didn't see your name, it just showed up under my question and saw the @Hansi in Orange. Use them too and have not had any issues. Great value for low data use, it helps that it rolls over too!

      • The Belong plan is an 'Unlimited calls and SMS Monthly plan' that you decide to stay on for the 12 months (comparing it to this one), but you can move to another provider earlier if you wish without losing money. If you stay on for the 12 months it still works out cheaper than the ALDI plan and you didn't have to pay upfront.

Not sure where you get the no calls and texts from.

    • Is option 1 $85 or $75?

      Months 1-4: Use $20 credit + $20 referral
      5: Use $5 credit + pay $5
      6-12: Pay 6x$10

      So that's $10 starter pack + $65?

      • +2

        6-12: Pay 6x$10

        That's 7 months, not 6.

        • Duh. Me maths not so good

  • I'd argue that Boost Mobile is currently at much higher value at $150 for 80GB, there's practically no difference as they both run on the Telstra network anyways. Not to mention unlimited international calls and texts.

    • +2

there's practically no difference as they both run on the Telstra network anyways.

unless you travel a bit around the country, were you might need full Telstra coverage, rather than the wholesale network that Aldi use.

      • essentially Boost Mobile is better anyways, no matter what the situation is tbh.

        • I would say it is from a technological perspective (extra features, data, better coverage in certain areas), but it's at a different price point. When trying to save $$ or simply don't have the need for the extras Belong will do just fine..

    • By that logic my optus plan at only $430 a year is much better value as it gives 960GB and 4GB roaming …etc

    • -1

This plan can be $159 for 85gb which is better value from a data perspective

  • +1

This is the normal price by the way.

It used to be 12GB and switched to 15GB just over a year ago.

    • jv I understand that it's the "normal" price but it's not always available is it? I saw the last time it was on ozbargain was in 2018. Of course, it may have been available and not posted on ozb.

      • but it's not always available is it?

it's always been available to renew at that price on the account I had, until i switched to Boost on that phone a couple of months back…

        • But not for new customers? I ask because I was looking for it and didn't find it. Was going to go with Amaysim, then Optus/Boost then the new Catch… maybe I should keep waiting.

          • @chaliban:

            But not for new customers?

Don't know. All I know is it's be $99 for existing customers for years. It was 12GB and it switch to 15GB over a year ago.

            • +1

@jv: the only way to join is via the voucher bought in store. Once you are only the plan you can renew online. However, you can't join online - only via the voucher, and only when its available in store.

  • +1

This is a great plan for getting for your older parents who may not use much data, but who want 1) the Telstra network, and 2) Unlimited calls/texts. I've bought one for my mother-in-law for the last 2 years running and it's been great not to worry about her phone bills.

    • This is a great plan for getting for your older parents who may not use much data

But not a good deal for older parents that do use a lot of data.

It has nothing to do with age and everything to do with data usage.

      • Just because this product isn't for you, doesn't mean it's not suitable for other people. There's probably a niche of people who would prefer this over Boost.

        • +2

Just because this product isn't for you, doesn't mean it's not suitable for other people.

I didn't say it was. I thinks is a great deal for people who don't need much data.

          • +2

@jv: For people who don't need any data there are $5 per month deals around

            • +1

@abacus: Some people only need about 1GB a month.

      • +1

Your bold text is wrong, or you are cheekily misinterpreting my "may" as a "do".

And in doing so, you are taking away from my statement some intended useful advice, in order to be indignant. Lots of people would look at this deal and say, "this doesn't suit me". My comment was intended to remind people to think "but what about mum and dad (or grandma and grandma?"

I'd rather spend $99 on this plan for my mother-in-law than the (arguably better $/gb value) $150 boost plan - it would be a waste of $51. This deal is therefore better value for her.

And it is true: Age inversely correlates with data usage - https://www.statista.com/statistics/919501/average-monthly-w… , https://www.statista.com/statistics/320974/internet-usage-on… , https://www.strategyanalytics.com/strategy-analytics/blogs/m…

So it is entirely true to say that you are less likely to use a large volume of mobile phone data if you are older. Unless you have data or evidence to the contrary?

Buried in that statement of likelihood is that it is not a definitive statement: I'm not asserting that "old people use no data". I am asserting that "on average, old people use less data than young people", and I feel comfortable that the data back this up.

Some older people will use more data than some young people. This is not a statement I excluded in my original comment. My 73 year old mum has multiple iPads, an iphone, an iwatch, and couldn't survive a day without mobile data. My 77 year old mother-in-law on the other hand would use maybe 2 gigs of mobile data per year, and that would be mostly due to app updates.

        • Your bold text is wrong

No, you are reading it wrong…

          • @jv: "It has nothing to do with age and everything to do with data usage"

I'd say it has everything to do with data usage, for which age is an independent predictor; and thus it is incorrect to assert that it has "nothing" to do with age.

            • @mingofmongo:

"It has nothing to do with age and everything to do with data usage"

              That's right.

This is a good deal for people who don't need much data. It's not a deal for "your older parents"….

        • +2

          @mingofmongo:

grandma and grandma, quite progressive grannies. :P

I think both of you are correct and are just discussing grammar or interpretation for the sake of it.

I would say that it's a deal for people with low data usage and who prefer not to look or for better similar to this (example Belong as discussed above). Or simply for people who love everything Aldi. :)

  • I am already on aldimobile, can I port to this directly?

    • +1

log into you account and check.

    • +3

Yes, you can, the pack comes with a code that you enter to redeem.

  • If the network works for you, more data with Catch for $124 something with discounted gift cards

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/545249

  • Does this include international calls?

    • ALDImobile's FAQ says "The 1 Year Super Pack does not include international SMS or MMS, you also won't be able to send video MMS. If you would lie[sic] to be able to use your phone for these things, you'll need to add Pay As You Go credit to your service.

  • So I've noticed over the years that this super pack is only sporadically available. If one were to grab one of these, and intend to continue using the plan indefinitely, are the recharges always available? Or are the recharges only available when Aldi have this deal on offer?

    • +2

Once you get onto it you can renew it online.

You can't get the offer otherwise.

    • +1

Just checked and yes it is available as a recharge option if you already have the plan.

    • +1

      I had the same question.
I switched to the 365 Day Super Pack $99 deal last December, and have never looked back, however I was concerned about recharging options and considering going in-store again just to ensure I have a voucher, but it's not necessary.
When you log into your ALDI mobile account, the 365 Day Super Pack $99 deal should be available as a recharge option - it is for me.
This morning I installed the ALDI mobile app, and see the app also allows for recharging on the 365 Day Super Pack $99 deal for me.
Both platforms warn that recharging replaces the currently activated deal, that there's no credit rollover, and no backtracking if you make a mistake.
N.B. The reviews on the ALDI mobile app are poor, and some users write that if the plan expires, there's no mobile service at all (not even to ALDI mobile website) so can't even recharge from the phone until connecting the phone to WiFi. This could seriously affect a tiny minority of people who use the 15GB per year as their only internet connection and who haven't enabled auto-recharge - who would definitly want to manually recharge before their credit expires.

  • LoL if i was to stay with aldi 365 day plan I'd just buy $5 pay as you go plan

    • +1

I would agree, but only for someone that know what they're doing, finds it easy to keep on top of things and most importantly is not too worried about what the charges may be at the end of the month. For most people having the fixed monthly spend helps.

  • Otherwise boost 80gb plan discounted is good at 135 ish. Plus includes Telstra, Google home integration, plus best of all free international calls

    • Interested in the Google Home integration feature you mention, couldn't find it on their website. Could you elaborate please?

      • +1

You can use Google home speaker to make calls using any Telstra mobile network (aldi should work as well, need to go to assistant settings and change caller id options.
And whomever you call from google home speaker will get call showing up from your Telstra network sim.
